@@vtecbanger3180 Go get a 50-pound bag of rice and the same for dry beans if you can find it. Go to your local hardware store Lowes especially. Buy the white food-grade 5-gallon buckets with lids. (make sure it is the lids with the gasket on the bottom) Go online while you still can and buy 15-inch x 2 ft. mylar food grade bags as well as the appropriately sized oxygen absorbers. Quietly grab your wife's flat curling iron. place the mylar bag into the 5-gallon bucket pour enough rice into the mylar bag to fill 3/4 of the bucket throw in the oxygen absorber and push it about 3 inches under the surface. open the curling iron and place the last 2 inches of the mylar bag between the heating elements of the curling iron. Run that curling iron all the way over to the opposite side of the mylar bag stopping 3 inches from the end. turn on the shop vac place the suction end into that 3 inch opening as the mylar bag begins to shrink from the air leaving the bag and all of the air is sucked out once again continue to seal the mylar that remains open with the curling iron. leave the lid off of the bucket for 24 hours if you did it correctly that mylar bag will still look like a compressed brick. Then label the side of the bucket with the contents and the date with either a label maker or a sharpie and snap the lid on the bucket. congratulations you now have a 50-pound rice bucket that is good for 20 + years. The same thing can be done with dry beans, flour, pasta, occasionally remove the tops of your buckets to confirm the mylar seals once a year. mylar bags can be found on Amazon or eBay. Make sure you use the appropriately sized oxygen absorber otherwise your preps could be compromised and make sure your absorbers stay sealed at all times otherwise they will change colors indicating they have been exposed to the air around you and rendered useless. This method above allows you to have a lower reliance on can foods only. I hope I have explained this process adequately. ******But start today****** work everyday on your preps. Water especially.

I have been called a food hoarder. I went hungry as a child. I would read books like "Kim," by Rudyard Kipling, and dream of the loafs of bread that Kim would eat. I used to raid peoples gardens at night and eat from apple and cherry trees, during the summer months. My parents were children of the depression, and kept food locked away from me. My sisters and I would play a game where we would look at magazines for pictures of food and see who could grab at the page first. I spent my early adulthood gorging myself on foods I had never gotten my fill of as a child. I know what hunger is and I never want to experience that again.

Why would he? Grocery stores are open, and things can be ordered online too. I’ll have to say this kind of prepping could be a life saver in tornado/hurricane areas though. During those times there’s a real shortage of food because everything gets wrecked.

@@Thomas-lk5cu Suppply chains haven't stopped yet. But if things get much worse they may well. Also having a pantry full of produce means you can cut down on any social interactions that aren't needed. Supermarkets are stupid places when there is panic. The shelves are empty and people end up getting violent while others wander around spreading their germs. These supplies mean that the prepper doesn't need to come into contact with anyone at the height of it all.

ArtseyGurl precisely. This is exactly what I think with all the tin foil hat people are saying things like “mass depopulation at work....or the elite want the world to themselves. Ya de ya de ya.” or things to that presumption (conspiracy theories) 🙄 I’m thinking “and then what?” The rich and powerful are only rich and powerful when there are MORE people around, not less. Who’s going to buy their products/services etc? Who’s going to run the society/world they enjoy? Who’s going to work for them? If there’s less people then there’s less demand and less money they make and control, so why on earth would they want that? People like that need to just stop watching so many stupid movies....most villains in real life aren’t so black and white in morale or simply evil just to be evil for FUN. There has to be something in it for them.

You should keep about two weeks worth of water in easily portable containers in spite of your well and pool. I have seen wells collapse or go dry, before. They can be poisoned directly or contaminated by chemicals leaking into the aquifer from elsewhere. Also if you need to leave for a short time, you will have stuff ready to grab and go if needed.

@dianasmith81665 жыл бұрын
@@SurvivalBetty we had three springs and a well and all but one became contaminated. Before assuming that you'll be fine, take time to evaluate what's around each, within a ten mile radius. Factories, towns and farms that use commercial fertilizers or herbicides can all contribute to runoff or seepage that percolates down into the aquifer. The only reason our well wasn't contaminated was that it was artisian. I still remember having to walk half a mile twice a day with two gallon jars to fill so we could have drinking and cooking water. It was nearly a year before the tests came clean on the springs. All I recommend is enough water for two weeks. Gallon and a half per day per person. That's twenty-one gallons. Please, I'm glad that you're storing some water, but don't let the fact that you have four wells make you complacent. We thought we were good too.
