That was a lot! First of all, thank you for the time you take to show us about your travels and how you live. We have a home on the ICW in the Elizabeth City area and just bought an Aquila 32 sport. Nothing like your boat as far as capability, but it will make for some wonderful memories on the ICW. I didn't read through all of your comments so I don't know if anybody mentioned anything about your tiles for your master head. Having done a lot of bathrooms and kitchens in homes, I can only recommend against doing anything that has hard to clean divots or grout. Go smooth all the way. You'll never regret it.

We love the new floor. Wish you a lot of beautiful weather, love, health and great memories in 2024. We find you both very warm and nice people. Have a great new years eve. Beautiful Yacht. The best systems walkthrough that I've seen, it is mind boggling to me how much and varied the equipment is that goes into making it all work. 32dc, 120 and 220ac, many ac units, water filters, strainers, engines, transmissions, props, turbos, water makers, stabilizers, gensets, battery banks, navigation systems, charts, chart plotters, auto pilot, communication, sound, entertainment systems, depth alarms, fish finders, zinc monitors, anchor systems, windlass, hull cleaning..... and this roster being just a tiny part of the overall task of yacht maintenance.

Very nice boat and I love the looks of that era of boat. My boat is a '78 Prairie 36 designed by Jack Hargrave who designed many of that era Hatteras' probably including your boat. All the newer boats look like tennis shoes to me. LOL!

Thank you for the tour of your boat, it is beautiful. A few years ago I was looking to buy a larger boat and found your channel while looking up information on Hatteras yachts. Your information had a big influence on me and I ended up buying a 1967 50' Hatteras. I still have plenty to work on now, it's a boat, but you have given me some great ideas on some of the upgrades that I'd like to get done in the next couple of years. Thank you for all of the info that you have shared over the past several years.

You sure have a very nice boat, which has tons of space. Only 9' longer than ours, but it looks like your boat is twice the size. Love what you did with the added on bar top and the additional salon space. The enclosed fly bridge is something we are looking at this moment. During summer not necessary, but in the spring and autumn or even winter months it would make our life a lot more comfortable. Thanks for the tour. 👍

And I generally don’t comment you’re doing a fantastic job with your boat. I’m still in the process of trying to get my wife to buy into the cruising lifestyle. That being said… The water maker that you showed in your boat tour should be run. I understand that it’s cheaper to purchase the water that you have been using because the membranes that are connected to the water maker are expensive, but you really should exercise those membranes. It will end up costing you even more if you don’t run them regularly, and flush them regularly I think you will find That, although membranes are extremely expensive if you keep up regular maintenance and regular flushing/making water, it will benefit you in the long term. Just saying I love your videos keep up the good work happy holidays and happy new year. I will have a single scotch. And toast the both of you looking forward to the next video. Sincerely, Jim.

Awesome update video. My wife and I are 3 seasons in plus watching new videos like this one. Few questions: 1) Hatteras 58s that we have seen only have 3 cabins with galley down - what is the actual length of your yacht? 2) have you considered solar panels & wind turbine to replace/compliment the generator? Merry Christmas.
@tryingnottosink9107
@tryingnottosink9107 6 ай бұрын
The 58s with a cockpit are galley down. The MYs are galley up with a forth stateroom. The length overall is 65 feet. We have two solar panels on the fly bridge roof. I did a video on it several years ago. The wind turbines are too noisy for me.

Nothing like Hatteras I have 06 50' conv Love the boat . Hatteras is always available for info . So here's the question what would you choose if you bought something else? Me I love the hatt 54 gt ..... my pick for you guys , a nice Fleming or maybe outer reef .... your turn what would it be
@tryingnottosink9107

We do like the Fleming, probably my second favorite, but I think I would get either a Hatteras 70 (for more room and a better layout) or a Hatteras LRC, for better range. We love Hatteras.

Thank you for showing us around your beautiful boat. Have a question. What was that electrical part in your generator room that looked like a tape player. It was white with red wires going to it. 31.06 was on the timer when you see it in the video.

I think you are talking about a solar charger , which we use to regulate the power coming out of our port alternator when we use it to charge our lithium batteries. I did a video on it about two years ago.

Love the boat! That is my dream retirement home. I have to ask. How limiting on your time away from the dock is refrigeration? It would seem you would need to provision frequently with only a few small refrigerators. That's probably not cheap in the Bahamas.
@tryingnottosink9107
@tryingnottosink9107 5 ай бұрын
When at anchor, we run the generator for air conditioning at night. That charges our 4 lithium batteries enough to run the refrigerators, etc all day. So we are never without refrigeration. We have a drawer refrigerator, a small refrigerator on the bridge and a beverage refrigerator, plus a freezer. Between them all we have a good amount of cold storage . We provision for 2 months before leaving for the Bahamas. Lots of canned and boxed foods. Every couple of weeks we stop at an island for perishables like milk, bread, fruits.

Great video. What do you do to secure the chairs,table, and countertop appliances when you go out to sea?
@tryingnottosink9107
@tryingnottosink9107 6 ай бұрын
If we anticipate rough seas, we lay the chairs and table down. But that is rare. Mostly we do nothing. The countertop appliances have rubber feet and rarely move. We do secure many smaller items around the boat, lock up liquor cabinets and put the bird cage on the floor. Lyn has a leaving dock routine.

Thanks for the Tour - Could I ask about your laundry. Is the dryer gas or electric? Also, for the discharge from the washing machine. Does that go into a holding tank to be pumped out, or discharged overboard. If overboard, is there a special bio friendly detergent you use. Do you find that the bio friendly detergent gets clothes as clean as normal detergents. How about washing of whites and using bleaches? Do you end up doing some washing at Marina washing machines vs. the onboard washer? Thanks... I suppose you could do part of an entire episode on such dirty subjects. Thanks.
@tryingnottosink9107
@tryingnottosink9107 6 ай бұрын
Our washer and dryer are electric, so we only use it at dock or when the generator is on. Lyn handles laundry, and uses environmentally safe soap. I don't know what she does about bleaching whites. The only time we use a marina laundry is if we are doing something big, like a comforter.

Huge question. We are actively moving aboard our boat now. I see you have T-Mobile Home internet. How is that working with your moves? I know you mentioned it won’t work in the Bahamas but do you have a problem going from maybe Stuart, FL to Savannah, GA? I understood that T-Mobile was tracking that and they’ll take you off line if you move it out of your original area. Thoughts?? Very curious because I’d love to do this too.

We can dock it ourselves, as long as there are no strong cross currents, but it is easier when we have dock hands to help. We do a "cost/budget" video every year. Check them out for fuel costs, etc.
