My mom's uncle worked there, in the civilian sector, where you were when the video began. I grew up a couple of miles from there. (Lockheed) Dawson Forest was my playground and I explored, had adventures, camped, rode motorcycles, rode horses and partied there. I've been inside the large building up front as a child and teenager. There's no radiation there. There are large holes blasted into the floor, trying to keep folks like me out of the underground structures. I've been in many of those offices too. There is radiation around the buried reactor. It's across the river, encased in several feet of concrete. There were radiation warning signs there for a long time. When they opened it up for horse riding, the signs were taken down. Dig inside the fence and the Geiger Counter will alarm. Surely you know where that is. As you drove down the main road, before you get to the end of the pavement, you cross into the military zone. That same building at the end is the staircase leading into several floors of offices, equipment room & such. The lower level is where the reactor was kept. That area is irradiated too, that's why the government flooded it. Obviously to keep people like me out of there. But I've been inside much of that entire underground complex. I've driven inside the tunnel. As a kid, the water level was much lower. The entire first basement level was dry. There were office desk, equipment, top secret papers and such all throughout the lower levels. The front side, lower side and across the river are hiding underground structures that were open until my late teens. I've explored them! I'm the reason the large building is welded shut. That's the only way they could keep me. I showed all my friends throughout the years what an amazing place old Lockheed is. The pages I read in the lower levels near the reactor zone, were disturbing. Glowing radioactive gel and much more. Those papers were everywhere. It's all cleaned out now. They (the Army, government agents) even came to my home and took 2 signs I took from there. A Radiation warning sign and a no trespassing, government property sign. Both were barely readable, but they took them anyway. They threatened my parents with prison if I got caught inside a structure again. I went back the next day. I've been exploring Lockheed for almost 5 decades. I love that place! BTW, the official records, maps, state prints of the entire complex, aren't factual. They've been hiding the truth about what happened there since the reactor leaked. That's why it's buried, encased in concrete. Mom's uncle (Mr Couch) said a conspiracy to conceal the facts about how the reactor leaked and how a foreign spy got inside Lockheed, were in action 2 days after it happened. The facility was shut down permanently, Mr Couch and everyone was forced to sign non-disclosures. Mr Couch and many more that worked there died of Cancer. A particular type of Cancer, caused by prolonged exposure to Radioactive materials. I knew that and still explored the place. My childhood doctor (Dr. Dunn) thought I got into some kind of radiation, because I grew over a foot in 3 months, when I was 15. I was inside the lower levels of the reactor room, when I was 15. When people go there, they have no idea that they're standing on a small underground military city. It's sort of like Lockheed Martin/ Dobbins Air Force base. The Air Force base at ground level and Lockheed underground. There are many abandoned Lockheed/military bases all over the United States. One of those is in New York state. There a reactor powered jet engine was tested. The reactor used a glowing radioactive gel. All those secret facilities had a purpose and the government lied about what was going on at every single one of the facilities, including Dawson Forest. Happy exploring and be safe, there's a lot of TimberRattlesnakes there!

on the other side of the river there is a large fenced area, the map i saw said solid waste dump. also near that is the kin mori (SP?) gold mine, it was a hydraulic mine and in the 1800's the owner had a group of chinese workers dig a ditch about 6ft wide and 4ft high 40 miles from the chatahoochee forest, you can still see sections of that ditch.

The "other" fenced in area, across the river, the one that's not the hot cell - that's commonly called the cooling off area; where hot materials were stored before finally moving to the hot cell area. The fenced in areas are more radioactive than the area the reactor was used directly on, believe it or not!! I've seen the sign for Kim Mori, but haven't been to it yet. Cool to know a bit more of its history, thank you for your comment :)

There's also some bunkers off in the woods that used to be exits for the underground structure. Most of them are filled in completely but one or two you can still get into but you can't go down very far.

There’s also a few abandoned gold mines in the Dawson forest. I’ve found 3 of them, but one had collapsed.

Yes, there are 3 about a mile past the bridge on Shoal Creek Rd on the left side of the road if you enter from the south gate. If the gates are open and you can get to the end of the road where the bridge is out and only the concrete sides are left, there is another one. Easiest way to find it is to drive to the end, as you are driving out stop at the 1st ravine on the left and go into the low point near the creek. It is located behind a mountain laurel bush on the left side of the bank. It takes a little searching to find, but it isn't too hard. Just a small mine, not very deep.

I take my dog there. She collects trash that hunters and hikers leave behind.

I wish I could get my dog to help me pick up trash! Lol. I live on a piece of property that backs up to dawson forest & have walked out there almost every single day of the past year & have hauled a backpack full of trash out most every single day. Glad I'm not the only one trying. Thank you for helping me clean the place up! I wish there were trashcans/dumpsters out there, I think that would help a lot. Anyone know of an organized group cleanup? There's some mattresses & things like that out there, that I can't haul out in a backpack..

@@blefnefnef So where exactly are the mattresses and things?
@bigpiney6558
@bigpiney6558 Жыл бұрын
Its not the hunters and hikers creating most of the trash. Its mostly folks that have no interest in the place other than a place to go hang out, spin up the roads, smoke and drink and consistently abuse the place.

@@bigpiney6558 Yeah. Most isn't all. Quite often you can tell when it is a hunter or hiker.

@@bigpiney6558 near the entrance bro, where they gate it off; reactor rd. I'm actually out here walking rn lol, Im close to Salem church rn. If ya ever wanna link up, I could show you exactly where. But look close to the gate on reactor road, left hand side. Just past the parking lot area where the hot cell is, on the blacktop road that heads toward the reactor. Mattress is pink. Theres a boxspring too. Metric fuckton of garbage bags in the parking lot I could show you too. I'd love to give someone a hand getting all of it out of here. Hate seeing the place all trashed out, & its like if I take a break for 2 weeks, I've never been doing anything :/

I was hoping you would've used your geiger counter to test more areas, especially where they used to store the reactor when not in use, as well as where it was raised up out of the ground to turn it on. And did you mention there was a nuclear waste area? That area might give a reading. Cool video. I used to live in Dawson Forest area. Ive heard tale of three headed dear and weird looking plants. Do you know if that's true?
@shadowmanadventures

Nothing above normal background radiation.

If you make it down into the tunnels you will notice a slight increase in radiation, but as he stated, it's not a significant amount. A home fire detector puts off more radiation. I have also heard that the radiation detectable in the tunnels wasn't from the reactor/experiments but from industrial smoke detectors that were in use in the facility at one point (they used radium in these). The only place on site I've been warned directly about is the hot cell building, with a former Atlanta city engineer telling me plans for a second airport on the site were thrown out when they looked into preparing the site for construction and realized there was undocumented solid waste still stored inside.

Can't get inside the fence anymore. You'll get caught before you get in good. None on the outside.
