GEORGE KNOOP 😂 of a new stadium is not an issue for her or her team and is still not a great 👍 to her she has no reason not her or to her as well but who can make the best decisions in her own words is a great way of thinking and taking care if it feels good 😊 is not that much more important as the person 👩‍💻 said the new song and a good 😊

Thanks BARRY- I like the documentary part 1 and 2 IF you would talk more about the history in WWII about the brave soldiers and nurses cooks and staff on the gray ghost the ship was packed from bow to stern with men and woman the count 16000? As a army veteran this can not be forgotten many lives were saved and taken away by war I heard the war brides were on the ship also with there babys. THANK, LA CA.

I rather enjoyed this two-part video tour of the Queen Mary, the commentary provided herein about the ship was concise and shed light on some aspects of the ship I was unfamiliar with before now, definitely inspired me to plan a trip to go visit the old girl in Long Beach sometime in the future. It's such a pity that during the conversion to being permanently moored, that a lot of her mechanical "guts" such as the boilers and the forward engine room were gutted to make room for the convention center and another attraction which never came to be (leaving an empty shell), along with all of her 2nd and Tourist-Class cabins and public spaces. It would've been so great had they just left all that alone and left her as she was when she arrived, a complete and functional ocean liner. She could still have served as a convention center, but she'd have more original rooms to be let out for her hotel function, and the intact machinery spaces could've been an interpretive museum on how a steamship works, or even better, still functioning, for perhaps short cruises up and down the coast for special occasions. As it stands now, she's been ruined as a ship, she's really just a floating building these days, and I hear tell she's in a bit of shabby state nowadays. I also hear tell that the swimming pool used to be used for hotel guests, which would be nice, but now it's structurally unsound and if it was to be used again it would need a major restoration to give it support from underneath. All the same, I enjoyed your video, thanks for sharing! Brendan O.

thanks for the tour. I wish you had mentioned the FEARLESS soldiers that represented our country during WWII and had no choice but to ride it to battle. Some never making back. My father was only seventeen and he was one of the lucky ones that actually made it back. I think that was such an important assignment for this ship and its innocent brave soldiers that fought for us in this great country that allows us the comfort to enjoy life.

I visited the Queen Mary on many occasions during the 1980's when I was stationed in California while in the U.S. Air Force. I was thrilled and very disappointed at the same time. To start with, I was thrilled to death to see this massive ship for the first time, in fact, the Queen Mary was the very first real ship I ever saw. I'll never forget crossing the bridge at Long Beach Harbor and looking out the window and seeing the size of this ship. That's all I saw out the window of the car, ship, and it was only one ship but I never saw anything like it in my life. I'm a mechanical guy, I work on aircraft, so I wanted to see the mechanicals of this huge beast. I was so, so disappointed to see the way they gutted this ship. They really emptied it out big time. You can only see one engine room and that's it because they removed everything else. I wanted to see the boilers that made everything happen, I wanted to see the electric control room and I wanted to see the generators that powered everything on the ship. But, they removed ALL of that so now all you can do is maybe see old pics of that equipment or just dream about it. What's really interesting is that they totally gutted the boiler rooms yet they still have one totally empty. WHY? Oh well, enough of my rant for the way this grand lady was treated, it was still a complete honor and joy to have been able to see this history face to face.

I had a few trips over to New York on Q.M.1 as a fireman in 1964.Cunard didn't have enough boiler room crew & advertised for inexperienced crew, I applied & did a weeks training in Liverpool then although never been on a ship or out of England I had 4 paid trips to New York, each trip consisting of two days sightseeing & visiting The World Fair. However to do this I was logged(fined) for missing my watches in boiler room therefor received very little pay & funded my sightseeing out of my own savings which ran out on the last day of my 4th trip so went to blood bank & received 3 dollars for giving my blood which helped pay for my last night in bar next to pier 92 along with the beers the U.S.A navy fleet guys bought me,who were there. Those were the days.!!!!

The ship was bought for profit, not preserving a historic icon. They wanted to make the space in the boiler rooms a museum but it never happened. Also the funnels were badly degraded. It is a real shame all that happened to the Queen Mary but at least she is still here.

I may have missed why they did this, but why were the boiler removed again?
@CruiseTalkShow
@CruiseTalkShow 9 жыл бұрын
shym0nk3y Boilers were removed because they would no longer be needed. As part of the sales deal, Cunard required that the boilers were removed so the ship couldn't go to sea again. Also the removal of the boilers allowed for convention space to be built in the aft boiler room.
@bvanleeuwen254
@bvanleeuwen254 9 жыл бұрын
+Barry Vaudrin I have read the sale contract for the QM miltiple times, and they only where no allowed to trade the vessel at sea anymore: 'City hereby undertake that after the delivery of the Vessel to them they will not use the Vessel herself or permit her to be used by their successors in title for trading at sea.' They didn't need to remove anything, by removing here orginal boilers to create convention/museseum space they actually removed a perfectly fine one. The current problem with the QM is the fact that they don't really care about her history, take for example the first class pool, it's part of the stupid Ghost and Legends tour, altough it probably wouldn't be safe to fill anymore, at least they need to fixed it up, the reason this is because the removed to much interior bulkheads, and the pool is to heavy even when it's empty, and doesn't have proper support.
@CruiseTalkShow
@CruiseTalkShow 8 жыл бұрын
+Bob van Leeuwen I recall that in the early eighties the pool was indeed filled with water. Because the ship was aging the pool was drained permenantly because it started to leak. You are correct in that after the sale of the ship to Long Beach, part of the agreement was that it wouldn't be used for "trading at sea", and a clear cut way to guarantee that was to remove the boiler rooms. It would have been nice to see them leave a couple of boilers in the ship so people could see them on a tour. The removal of the engines and boilers made the ship more buoyant so some of her fuel tanks were filled with cement.

Man, opinions are opinions, but no need to be crazy here. I agree with you that the United States was not as good looking a ship as the Queen Mary. I am not a fan of her green decks and dual funnels. She was however, an undeniable technological marvel, and not a single modern passenger ship can match her speed. Lets give both of these pioneering giants the respect they deserve for their respective technological triumphs, and standard setting histories.
