I have a Yoder YS640 Comp Cart and it's the best pellet grill I have owned. It's a beast made my old school Red Neck welders made to last. I have owned 6 pellet grill/smokers nothing comes close that I have seen. Watching this video shows the craftsmanship. Great video thanks Yoder...

Thanks for the video tour of the Yoder manufacturing plant! Looks like I am 3 years late watching this video. I ran across the cheyenne model while browsing for smokers two days ago. I went to the, grillbillies web site, for more info and was impressed by the quality and features of the Cheyenne model! I know the Cheyenne is their smallest smoker but it is big enough for me! I have a Chargriller 5050 with a firebox. My wife uses the gas side for quick cooks and I use the charcoal side for the charcoal flavor! I've had this Chargriller for five years and only barbecued on the charcoal side until this year when I was ready to use the fire box for smoking! After watching a few videos on fire management including yours, I did test runs before committing to a cook! It took a few weekends for me to get comfortable with fire management and temperature control! My first cook was a 10 lb Brisket. I had company over for it and it came out tender, juicy and delicious with a nice smoke ring! I stared with charcoal and used sized down oak to fit in my fire box for the smoke flavor. It was gone in a minute! I have cooked steaks, ribs, chicken, pork roast and they all were great! I've got the "smoke it" itch now! I was eyeing the Chargriller grand champ for a while until I ran across the cheyenne and now this video. I will go to the Yoder website and check things out.

Wow man, I'm impressed you were able to get that audio as clear as it was. It was LOUD in there. I found the information on temp control particularly interesting. Josh and I were chatting at that point so I missed this the first time around. Good times and a great experience. Thanks for letting me crash in your hotel room. Justin

Yeah, it was really loud during the tour. I'm actually glad we did the tour after most of the workers had gone home for the day so it wasn't as loud as it would have been. I appreciate you joining me for the trip. It wouldn't have been the same without ya brother!!!

+Baby back Maniac I was quite surprised by the lack of PPE (personal protective equipment) during your tour. If you toured Tenneco, where I work (think Walker auto exhaust products), you wouldn't have gotten out of the office without AT LEAST earplugs and safety glasses. Add in steel toed boots/shoes if you were anywhere but in a designated walkway. Most companies are more fearful of getting sued if someone were to get injured, I guess. Anyway, I enjoyed the video and learned a few things as well.

Hey Troy, thanks for taking the tour and posting on your channel. I don't have a Yoder (which I wanted just like yours) but I do have one which is similar. I love watching plant tours of any kind, but seeing this one was extra special due to subject matter. Makes you proud to know it's American made and with excellent quality. And like we have always heard, you get what you pay for. If you want one of the best, you have to be willing to pay the money. Very enjoyable and informative. Great job

Great job T-ROY, thank you for taking the time to film this. I've had a 20" Yoder Durnago for about 4 years now after burning the bottom out of a brinkman smok'n pit that I purchased many moons ago. I was very hesitant to purchase another off-set smoker due to the wide temperature fluctuations that were common place in the brinkman. Little did I understand it was because of the cheap thin medal that it was manufactured out of and just couldn't hold heat. That brinkman was a royal PITA trying to keep the heat constant and it would work you to death. The Durango will hold 250 degrees dead on the nose all day long without mucking around with the dampers at all, even after adding wood. In fact, I'm so impressed with YodeI I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a YS640! Again, great job!

Yoder is just an hour from my house. I just recently bought my first stick burner, a Standard Wichita built in 2014. They are built like tanks, it still doesn't have rust and it is been outside all of these years! We fabricated and welded on a counter weight.

Yoder makes good stuff. Had to get rid of large pellet grill though. Temps were all over the place. Replaced with Blazen Grill works. Almost identical except for firebox. Temp on this one never varies more then 1' end to end. Competition cart with big wheels rolls anywhere. Weighs about 400lbs. Made in Nebraska. Troy has good channel.

Thank you for this video Troy. I learned a few things upon watching. Makes sense to close the smokestack damper a bit to add more smoke to your meat. I also like the part about getting and maintaining an even or close to a consistent temperature with that heat management plate. This definately was a winner. For me...it boils down to the Yoder or the Lang. Been doing a lot of homework on the Lang smokers and I really like that reverse flow. Yoders build quality looks amazing as well as the options you have. Propane burner is a must....lol. Thanks again brother for the video...cheers!!!

@TROYCOOKS 7 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed the video Charles. Justin and I had a great time visiting Yoder and I'm glad they agreed to let us film the tour for you guys. From what I've heard about reverse flow pits, they burn at a constant temp across the cooking chamber. Some folks like that, but others like being able to adjust the temps from side-to-side as you can on a regular offset.

Love my Yoder YS480 with one exception. The flat black paint finish starts to peel within a months use. Now, they gave me a touch up can of paint but for the cost of these grills it shouldn't be an issue - at least this quick. Also, concerned about the paint flaking off into the meat itself. It's impossible to stop. Whomever idea it was for the flat black paint... not the best idea...
@Doodad2
@Doodad2 6 жыл бұрын
Apparently they don't clean the product before they paint. Dirt and oil get on the metal during assembly causing the paint not to stick well. I had YS640, I was not that impressed. The build is solid for sure but QA could be much better. Mine had wires not hooked up when I got it. So that tells me it was not inspected before shipping. I just sold mine. I think their stick burners would be great tho.....

Hey T-Roy, Love the channel. I was wondering if you had the opportunity to look at a Durango during the tour. I am looking at purchasing a Durango 20'/24'. I think I would love the vertical stack and it would add many options to smoking. I am having a hard time choosing between the Kingman and the Durango 20'/24'. I want each for different reasons, but feel I would make the most use of the Durango. The stick burner I have now is 20' offset (w/o vertical stack), but it needs to be replaced as it is 10 years old. After all your cooks on your Wichita, have you ever wondered if a 24' would provide better results than a 20' since the smoke flowing through the pit travels a little slower? Anyway, I was just curious if you got to see one and could share any thoughts. I am pretty sure I will have to make travel plans to see one for myself before purchasing. Also, on a different note, if you have never used pear wood on poultry you are really missing out! To each their own, I think you should try it if you haven't! It is by far with out a doubt my favorite wood of choice for chicken and turkey. It smells amazing as well. Thanks!! Happy BBQ'n this summer, look forward to your response.

Hey T-Roy, i just got my Cheyenne 3 weeks ago. I love it. I am getting used to the little nuances. When you were speaking with Joe about fire management, he said to keep a layer of coal in the firebox. Did he mean throughout the whole cook?
@TROYCOOKS
@TROYCOOKS 7 жыл бұрын
Hey brother, glad you are enjoying the Cheyenne. Yes, you need to keep a bed of hot coals in the firebox the entire cook.

Totally Amazing video - thank you for doing it, I've always wanted to have a proper look in the Yoder factory. I'm in the UK and they are expensive to buy here, but I'm sold on the Kingman now. Love your channel T Roy - keep up the good work. Thanks again 👍

Hi, Troy. It's been a while since I talked to you. What's the best wood for smoking turkey, beef, pork, or chicken? Have a good day, good buddy.
@TROYCOOKS
@TROYCOOKS 7 жыл бұрын
Hey Byron, I've been traveling a lot lately and have not been able to respond to comments. For those meats you listed, I would go with Pecan which has a light smoke flavor. If you want an even lighter smoke flavor, then go with Peach, Apple, or Cherry. Hope you have a great day also my friend!!!
