Tour the Tower | Manor & Maker

Take a tour of our tower, see how we're getting on with furnishing our home, and preparing for family for Thanksgiving in France.

Sara, an IT professional & Stephen a graphic designer and artist are world travelling Canadians who have dreamt of moving to Europe and France in particular.
In 2020 they were working from home when Stephen turned to Sara and popped the question she was longing to hear, “What would have to be true for us to buy a chateau in France?”
They searched online for months viewing hundreds of properties.
They narrowed their search and toured some properties when they happened upon the one that captured our hearts, Chateau de Saint Germain des Pres.
A year later they made the move to France to start their new adventure in our beautiful Chateau.
They created “Manor and Maker” to reflect the two sides of there adventure. One, to live as chateau owners with all the ups and downs and two, to pursue their passions as makers, creating art in all its forms. They will invite others to come together, united by their passions, to share in this adventure.

That furniture being for sale in the village confirms that this chateau and village were meant to have you move there. I hope you make links and friends in the village, as so many non-French residents in France don’t seem to mix. (I know this works both ways.). It would be lovely if you could. You were both so lovely on Chateau Diaries and when I found out you were buying your own Chateau, I was over the moon about it. For one thing it would mean another vlog on Chateaus but also we get to follow you through your process of renovation. The tower was interesting especially the doors leading off from the stair to the different stories. The unfinished part at the top is something I wouldn't want to miss when you decide to do that room. Filling the Chateau is going to be exciting because that will mean shopping trips. Yay! Wow, wow, wow, The Lord and Lady of the manor coming down the beautiful stair case, with their lovely guests, perfect, it bought tears of joy to my eyes seeing you so well match to your new home. That tower is as the rest of your chateau beautiful. The only thing that seemed dangerous and out of place,were those blocks that looked like add ons to the stairs. The alcove at the base of tower looks like it could fit a toilet, which would be handy when working out side or when using the room at the top of the tower. The first Vlog had me at the fireplaces and wood. A sucker for wood. The grand entryway is beautiful. Now a Tower to restore! The stone seats are for the ladies to sit, read, sew, spin and watch outside. The soldiers would be on the rampart or just in the doorways in bad weather.

It's so wonderful that you were able to become the custodians for all those items from the village. Especially since it's opposite to what one usually expects i.e. that people from the village become custodians of items from a chateau because an estate is being let go.
