***** Good point. No I don't. I guess I would like to believe the image that Warren puts out there because most of them put out the opposite image (i.e. Donald Trump and Carl Ichan come to mind, but not many go out of their way to act like Jimmy Stewart from It's a Wonderful Life like Warren does). Is it all an act? Who knows. However, I never heard anything negative from others about him, in fact you hear the opposite about what a great man he is. My hunch is with Warren "What you see is what you get".

To everyone complaining why he doesn't live lavishly that's because it's a part of his investment ideology. You can buy a sports car for $ 100,000, but that will just depreciate over time and get you basically nothing close to the original amount. Use that $ 100,000 to invest and you can double, triple, quatriple it. Then you have $ 300,000 you can again use it to buy some crap that will eventually be worth nada, or convert it to a few million. You don't get rich by throwing money away.

+jam626 He is one of the richest in the world, so why would he hold back at 85 because its not a money investment. He has a net worth of 62 billion dollars, why bother if he spends one million, he is dead soon anyway and what will this money have mattered to him anyway, nothing really, hopefully he give away most of it to charity which I heard somewhere.
@jameel626
@jameel626 8 жыл бұрын
Mattis Larsson He is giving away over 90% of his wealth. But its more of a reflection of his philosophy and life style. If you read books on Buffet and his business partner Munger, you will see them regularly stating that they didn't become investors/businessmen so they could buy Ferrari's and hang out with models. They did it to achieve independence, that's it. So even years after, they are still true to their word. I'm sure you would have heard how several millionaires are still unhappy after having everything. Ever wondered why ? Its because materialism doesn't make you happy. Companies advertise how buying a Ferrari is cool, but that just means more $$$$ for Ferrari. So people are just stupid enough to buy into whatever marketing gimick is thrown at them, but Buffet is smarter. He knows throwing away money on nonsense doesn't make one happy. Having a job that you love with good friends and family on the other hand does. Plus its more money for the charities, so if he started throwing away money it would make him a dick. This way we know he is a true legend.
@gayilluminati
@gayilluminati 8 жыл бұрын
+Mattis Larsson As someone who runs two businesses at the moment (investment/trading, home decor products), and funding a third - my film, let me explain his ideology. Yes, you're right, he's very successful and has a net worth of $62B BUT the habits he has developed through his life have made him successful. Thus, his entire line of thought is every dollar spent on myself cannot be invested. My first business, trading (investing in financial markets) taught me this very quickly. For every dollar I took out of my trading account, I lost money. What if I could have made a 300% return on that dollar? For every dollar I took out, I lost $3; it's about opportunity cost. :) Hope that helps a bit.

I find it so funny how one of the richest men in the world is so happy living such a simple life. A great day for him is to walk to work and go and get a burger at MicDonalds and walk home to his house which he has been in for 47 years and bought for $31,000. I think that is why he is so happy.
@dbiswas
@dbiswas 9 жыл бұрын
To an extend, happiness has nothing to do with money. As long as you have basic needs fulfilled and your family & friends are around you and you are loved & respected by them, you will be happy. I still remember when I came to US and I had salary of $6000 saving, I was more happy then.
@stemikger
@stemikger 9 жыл бұрын
dbiswas Well said. I was a late starter and didn't start saving until I was in my 30s. I always said to myself when I have a paid off house and half a million saved I will be happy. I'm there now but my family lost their minds and have no close connections and most of my friends fell by the way side. I'm glad I saved and was responsible but without the love of family and friends, happiness is very elusive. Unfortunately, these were just circumstances that fell upon me and it was nothing I did, just the way life turned out. I never put money before people.

stephen geraci Looks like we share the same experience. Don't worry, things will get better for both of us one day. Just to share one more thing, lately I have started living a very minimalistic life, where I consume only what I need and at the end of the day I try to consume less and expect less from people. And that really helped me. In fact I plan to travel to 3rd world country for a trip where I would like to live like common people and try to learn the basic elements of life. Hope that will give me a better perspective.

To be fair there are a lot of good ones that live like that. You just never hear about them. The CEO and founder of Amazon is the same way. Even Martin Skreli, the evil pharma CEO who everyone hates, auctioned off a punch to his face to benefit a kid with a disease (not sure which one). So there is always some sort of silver lining, this guy and Gates are just mostly silver lining.

This is one of the reason why I like Mark Cuban better, he has a lot more fun than Warren. But I can't say much cause you never know if under that simple desk there's a secret tunnel to a huge office underground with space ships, yacht, and special addition 1 of a kind Ferrari.

“No email” “Perhaps the secret to his success” Nope, it’s just that CEOs, very important people, can get away with having no email. Imagine if you refused to use email... your boss would be frustrated and rightfully fire you, you couldn’t do so many things... Success allows no email... not the other way around (albeit, being addicted to digital can hamper success).

#1k plus I am. Now THIS is a video for me! A look inside his office without being there! Then again if I HAD the chance to visit him IN his office I would not have to be asked twice. I could see no computer attached to a server, so no chance of hacking. But no computer at all, no can do. If you want to type a document, or you have an idea, a computer is wonderful. But then he does not drive a muscle car either. He does not even drive a hybrid. I STILL like this bloke very much.
