Tourbillon Gowland / Gowland Free-Balance escapement
In this escapement the impulse is transmitted through the balance-spring, the unlocking is effected by a discharging pallet mounted on the balance staff. The outer end of the balance spring is attached to a stud carried on a cross-bar which is revolved slow!)' around the balance by the action of the train, the amount of its advance at every beat being limited by a circle of step-cut projections on the top-plate, against which a locking pallet carried at the end of the bar engages, until unlocked by the discharging pallet on the next swing. There is little merit in this escapement, and it never came into practical use. The use of a discharging pallet to effect the unlocking allows of the impulse being given at or near the dead-point, but involves an abandonment of the principal feature of this class of escapements that of suppressing all obstacles to the unrestricted motion of the balance

all your videos are really amazing. I can see a lot work gone into making these mechanisms actually work and not some simulation. might I ask what books are you referring to be able to draw them at all?

Very nice. Where is the driver for keeping the motion going? A video would be nice on the impulse mechanism. Thanks for building.

The balance spring is attached to that moving armature, so every time it advances it adds a little energy to the spring.

Let me salute your dedication for making such a wonderful model of an escapement that "never came into practical use." Your videos are wonderful complements to Gould's explanations! Could you do another constant-force escapement next, please? I am curious about Theurillat's version - there is a video of this escapement, which is not very clear, so seeing a model would be great.

Thanks for your feedback. The Theurillat constant force escapement is interesting, however the next publications are already scheduled. I will come back to this subject at the appropriate time

Superbe mais on ne voit pas le déclenchement malgré le ralenti, c'est dommage pour les amateurs

On peut voir le déclenchement en faisant des arrets sur images entre 1.30/2,36 et 1,31/2.36 ( suite à l'action de la levée du plateau du balancier sur le ressort de passage de la détente mobile, l'ellipse de la détente mobile sort de sa position de blocage)
