Great song, sure Joe Cocker may have made it famous but I think that it is a Dave Mason tune and Traffic did a great version. Grand Funk's was none too shabby either.

It was a hot property for cover back in the day. Counting Umph, I have compiled 27 different covers of the song. And I don't think I have 'em all. My three favorites in order of preference: Joe Cocker's (no disrespect to Dave and Stevie, I'm a fan off Traffic since day one, but on this song, leon's piano and the congas kicks the originals ass), Issac Hayes (live), Mongo Santamaria.

When He hollared “Joe” at about 3:30 a very fitting tribute to the man who made this song more famous than the famous guys who wrote this song) I hollared “Dave & Stevie” back at him. Also UM is a fitting cover band to take Joe’s place.

@@dunno371 That's a cool version, especially with Mark Wahlberg running in slow motion.

Any drummers watching this? That fellow is hitting something metallic that appeals to me. I don't hear it in the Joe Cocker recording. Is he hitting the rim of the drum? What is it I'm hearing?
@JohnSmith995623 жыл бұрын
Not to sound cliche, but is that cowbell I'm hearing? I just don't see anyone banging on.
@JohnSmith995623 жыл бұрын
Okay, I think there's a second drummer back there somewhere.
@bluecollar825 Жыл бұрын
There's a drummer and a percussion player. The sound you're talking about is from the percussionist, not sure the proper name.
@JohnSmith99562 Жыл бұрын
@@bluecollar825 Yeah, I think the percussionist is intermittently banging on something cowbell-ish.
@bluecollar825 Жыл бұрын
@@JohnSmith99562 cowbell-ish lol! That made me lol. I don't think we ever gonna get the correct answer unless we do the research ourselves. Oh well, take care my man.🤣✌

There are 20 somethings in that crowd and they're getting into a 1969 recording. There's hope for humanity after all.

Dam My Nephew you got it.So does your daughter she likes Kieth Richard I think? Do we have to get her a blues harp? Seriously I was hurting and was playing with the phone which I am not very good at it. But she was definitely on about Kieth Richards.Geez I am an old punk!You got it all listed out!

Poor Dave, Mason, and Traffic. I too once believed that Joe Cocker gave us this song. Not true. No question he gave us the most well-known version and definitely turned up the soul on the tune, but not his tune.

The black crowes version is way better. These guys are jokesters.
@JohnSmith995623 жыл бұрын
The Black Crowes singer ruins it in my view. I much prefer this version.
