Touring on a Brompton. Don't do this.

Thanks for posting. It looks like you had an adventure! I can see why The Brompton Traveller always takes a tire with him when he goes touring. I chose a 20 inch folding bike. My first tour out on the Oregon coast I shredded a rear tire on some glass. Most stores even in small town at least will carry BMX tires. Someone told my a trick if you get really desperate and that is to fill the tire with grass or dirt so that it at least has some volume so you are not riding the rim on your tire and potentially shredding it more.

Yep. It was a major learning experience. There are a lot of extra things to consider when touring on a Brompton vs a dedicated touring bike

the foldable bead that (some of) the continental contacts have is the main reason i switched from schwalbe marathon pluses. can carry a bunch of spares with no trouble, and they seem much easier to get on and off the rim

i dont like tubolito inner tubes they wont take abuse. i've had them fail consistently. I use my Brompton in the city or with a bus and train. I like bigger wheels for gravel and uneven terrain. Thanks for sharing what you learn.
