Holidaymakers have been evacuated from beaches by rescue boats in Turkey after wildfires threatened hotels is several resort towns. Six people have died and more than 500 needed hospital treatment in Turkey’s Mediterranean towns from fires that have raged across the country since Wednesday

Yakutia is on fire. 3000 square kilometers (this is the size of the Duchy of Luxembourg). The village burned down the other day. 600 people lived here. This fire has been going on since May. Fires in Russia happen every year. This is a real disaster for us.

Over tourism may be part of the problem along with overbuilding in sensitive areas. Tourists can be safe but locals suffer. Farmers are being left devastated. There have to be ways to become less economically dependent on tourism. Cruise ships are polluting and warming oceans and local harbors.
