As many others have already stated...you really didn't discuss the recommended layouts. I assume for sport shots, you want small drill and VAL angles sums, along with 3 to 4 inch pin to PAP distances. Is this a correct assumption. I also assume 1000 grit and rougher for surface. Maybe even a 300-1000 skip grit combo.

I've been able to use my normal ball arsenal on sport shots before with decent success. I am a low tilt player so my ball tends to go early anyways. I do not tend to buy skid flip balls anyways so I guess that's why I dont have control issues too often.

The Open Championships requires a different strategy than bowling on the THS. Good shot making and spare shooting, to name two.

I agree totally with what Mo says in this video because I experienced it first hand. Last year I went to Nationals and that was my first experience bowling on a sport shot. I took 8 bowling balls and tried them all. The only 2 balls that worked on that pattern and wouldn't just skid off into oblivion were my Visionary Midnight Scorcher Particle urethane at 320 grit and my Black Widow Urethane at 500 grit, both with early high flare layouts. All my other resin "house shot" balls were useless. They were like spare balls. Using those super strong urethane balls I was able to slightly exceed my sport adjusted average for singles and doubles. Many bowlers who joined me there, who have much higher house averages than me, actually averaged lower than I did. They kept searching for the bounce from the right that never appeared (not a house shot) while I played my normal house shot game, straight up 8, 9 or 10 board, not giving the head pin away.

That matches my experience. I got a chance to play on a 52 ft sport shot. Once it was set up, I got to throw on it while the oil man was there watching. We were kinda curious where the ball would end up, if I threw my normal "house" shot with my typical resin ball. It hit the ten pin. Flush. We both burst out laughing.

@@shaunmcisaac782 Lol! Same thing happened to me at Nationals. I took one of my strong house shot resin balls, my Radical Squatch at 2000 grit dull and rolled it directly up 4 board to see if there was some friction there that would bounce it back. It went 60 feet to the 10 pin!

I'm looking at buying the pitch black, widow urethane, or hot cell. For the short patterns(-35 ft heavy outside oil). My shot is 450-475 rpm and 17 mph. Want a smooth hooking to throw 5-3 board target. Any suggestions
@nordattack
@nordattack 4 жыл бұрын
@@michaelluttrell5983 Go with the Black Widow Urethane. Super smooth ball but very heavy rolling. Handles more oil than Pitch and Cell. Also drives harder due to that huge Gasmask core. Drill it for max flare. Max out the core's capabilities. With your rev rate you may find you can use it on longer patterns as well. I am an old school Full Roller with only a 120 rpm rev rate. I drilled my Widow with the strongest Full Roller layout and the Widow just floats up the lane for me and carry's hard. Visit my channel to see it in action. I have a Hot Cell, but the Widow beats it.

? I'm not a particularly high rev, or tilt bowler. What I have found at Nationals is that I have to add quite a bit of surface, especially to my benchmark (usually a big solid) ball and play extremely straight. As the transition starts I'm able to move a little with that, but then have to change to something a little more aggressive, usually a pearl. Should I consider trying a "tournament ball(s)" instead of modifying my approach and lane play?

Mo great vlog ball layout for regular leagues, tournaments, regionals, nationals and PBA/PWBA on THS and Sport oil layouts... 👍🏽😊👌🏽...
@johnorminski
@johnorminski 4 жыл бұрын
Let's just get rid of patterns, put the same amount of oil on every board across the lane (flat pattern). Then we won't have to worry about what mystical creation somebody came up with because they like playing with the oil machine. We also won't need to buy multiple sets of equipment just because we want to try our luck at a local tournament. Mind you the ball manufacturers won't like that, 'cause we'll buy less stuff that ends up in the trash after a couple seasons because the latest core/coverstock is being marketed...
@christopherascherl2411
@christopherascherl2411 4 жыл бұрын
You still have different lengths and total amounts of oil. Those are going to affect the balls and layouts used more than the oil ratio.
@johnorminski
@johnorminski 4 жыл бұрын
@@christopherascherl2411 Yes, I suppose that's true... I was hoping to reduce the number of balls I have to keep track of! :-) Back in the old days we used to call that pattern a 'block', be nice to see them bring that pattern back...

So with that being said one should work on having a house or local tournament type arsenal and a sport shot/big tournament arsenal correct?

What is the layout on a reactive ball and a urethane assymetrical on a wolf or short pattern. To shoot an outside 5-3 board mark? If anyone knows.
@charlespeakjr6337
@charlespeakjr6337 4 жыл бұрын
Garland, good idea to have one type of arsenal for leagues and house tournaments and a different arsenal for Sport patterns, PBA Regionals, Nationals, etc. Years ago, I was told that whatever works on a league pattern, may not work for USBC Nationals, PBA Regionals, etc, and that was before the advent of the Sport Patterns. On a league shot, you're looking for your reaction to be side-to-side. However, on the sport pattern, you want your reaction to be front-to-back.

@@garlandoverton727 I know. Especially with the Ball of the Month club still going strong, almost 30 years after the first reactive bowling ball came out-lol. If you go out and buy everything that comes out, you'll definitely go broke. With the new rule changes coming, do your research on equipment, talk to your pro shop technician and continue to work on your game.

@LJ Nguyn thanks. I've been gone from bowling for 15 years. Just got a radical conspiracy, ebonite impact, and black widow legend drilled. Had trouble on a 35 foot pattern last tournament. Why I'm looking at urethane
