Benefits of Playing Chess:
- Promotes brain growth
- Increases problem-solving skills
- It exercises both sides of the brain
- Raises your IQ
- Sparks your creativity
- Teaches planning and foresight
- Teaches patience and concentration
- Optimizes memory improvement
- Improves recovery from stroke or disability
- Helps treat ADHD
Chess is an intellectual battle where players are exposed to numerous mental processes such as analysis, attention to detail, synthesis, concentration, planning and foresight. Psychological factors are also present on and off the board; playing Chess stimulates our imagination and creativity. Every single move a player makes is the result of a deep analysis based on the elements presented on the battlefield.
Chess in its essence teaches us psychological, sociological and even moral values. In a Chess game, both players start with the same amount of material and time. The fact that the white pieces move first is considered to be practically irrelevant -especially because a player typically plays one game as white and one game as black. Consequently, the final result of the battle solely depends on each player. It doesn’t matter if you win by taking advantage of your opponent’s mistakes or by simply avoiding mistakes yourself. Truth is that Chess is an extremely individual sport and our defeats can only be blamed on ourselves and no one else. And this, in the end, only benefits us because we learn to be and feel responsible for our actions and never come up with excuses to justify ourselves.
We also learn that when it comes to our victories on the board, our opponent's mistakes play a more significant role than our own skills. Let’s not forget that a Chess game without any mistakes would be a draw. This way, Chess provides us with another valuable life lesson: be humble at all times.
About National Master Robert Ramirez:

Nice game. I find it fascinating how many different ways the Pirc can transform in a game. Lately, I only play the KID/Pirc or Czech Pirc. I should be getting bored, but the variety of positions I end up in is enough to keep me stimulated. I actually just won a game this morning with the black pieces using the approach you described. I kept it simple and kept an eye open for a chance to transform the position into a winning endgame. Before your lessons, my strategy was always to checkmate at all costs. Thanks for everything you are doing, and keep it coming!

Rob, I learn so much from your videos. Thank you! I played a game recently I'm really proud of. See PGN below. I played white. 5. g4... and 6. Qd2... were both intentional. I saw on move 4 if I could clear his c8 bishop out I could trap his queen. It was a risk but my opponent took the pawn and knight as bait. Regardless if he hadn't taken the bait, I'm pleased I was able to spot the tactic in the first place. Good thing, too, because I only had 7.9 seconds left when I got the checkmate! Thank you again! I never miss a video! 1. e4 c5 2. Nc3 Na6 3. Nf3 g6 4. d4 d6 5. g4 Bxg4 6. Qd2 Bxf3 7. Bb5+ Qd7 8. Bxd7+ Kxd7 9. O-O Bh6 10. Qd3 Bh5 11. Bxh6 Nxh6 12. Qe3 Ng4 13. Qf3 Nh6 14. Qh3+ e6 15. Nd5 Rac8 16. It takes a lot of focus and the ability to jump around when learning from Robert. He will go off on tangents and then go back and forth. I'm not sure if there's a more systematic approach to teaching chess. I have learned from the videos regardless.
@slingshotchicken4695
@slingshotchicken4695 3 жыл бұрын
It's one thing to be in the middle of one game and then jump to others, it's a serious problem when you distract so egregiously from completing the originally intended project! Are you ADD or ADHD Robert? The tangents are all over the place and you went so far off the path I found myself seeking a game you seemed to have just left behind, and you skipped off the game and went out there for about ten minutes before getting back on track. A student needs to be kept focused with a few main points and then perhaps one game with minimal subsets. Your teaching style is a little random and tangential, almost as if it's intentional to keep the secrets to yourself or obfuscated behind tangents, all while saying it's for our own good. It seems odd. I might add in addition to the tangents you will then move from far too slowly with three or four explanations that need to be minimized to rapid-fire moving where there's no way to learn at all, the moves are just too fast at that point. Overall, it's a bit messy and it takes more than should be required of a student, some of that's on the teacher. I won't give up yet but I will check to see if my learning style matches up with other teachers as well. Gotham Chess and Eric Rosen are also good but I find combining Robert with them to be useful, however scattered some of the Ramirez efforts can be.

Hello! If you have been following this course from the beginning and in order, you should have developed the necessary skills to follow along. When you study from a Chess book for example, you will often see sidelines and variations that will make you deviate from the main line and then you have to get back to it. But of course, that's something you are supposed to deal with at the right time. At the beginning of the course, many lessons were straight to the point and lasted around 15 minutes, but this is lesson # 110 already. With that said, the best thing to do is what you mentioned. There are so many great people out there teaching Chess. You just need to find what works best for you and enjoy the process. Take care and enjoy life 😎👍

Queen on a5 is hanging so must be moved or defended first. If queens traded King must take or d4 hanging. White has no light squared bishop, developing Knight on d7 will be a discovered attack on h3. If King takes in trade c3 would cause King to take or bxc3 looses the Rook or have a past pawn on b2 so I think the trade of queens in this situation is a good move

Btw, I've been playing not so good against the samisch and the mongoklov (the h3-g4 plan of white vs the kid is called something like that), because I bad at queenside expansion... So, I was trying to improve my queenside plays, and I soon encountered an agadmator video on tal, where he plays the benko. I like the queenside expansion, and thought that I should try the benko as I can get to practice queenside expansion that I can use to improve my game against the samisch. It worked! Now I feel like a more complete player. I still play the benko occassionally to further improve my QS play. I chose the benko because I seen that black almost always gets to expand on the queenside, while if I practiced my QS expansion in the kid, I would not be able to practice much expansion against the classical or fianchetto

I chose the c3 plan as well, and to my surprise I went with the Nb6 continuation 💪. Discovery attack on the h3 pawn, followed by Nc4 forking the queen and bishop.

Robert I just broke 1100 :-) It took me a while but I am learning that move order is really important. And going back and re-re-re-watching some of the variations. I crushed the Austrian attack twice tonight on players over 100pts higher than me. Felt good. Funny thing is earlier in the week.. i dipped to a 6 month low of 925.. and I went back and re-watched serveral vidoes and I think I am 14w 2L 1D in last few days. Thanks!

Excellent! 💪 And yes, That is normally how it goes. Now you will struggle for a bit before breaking through 1200, but eventually you will adjust. Just keep it up 😎

Hey, Robert! I just can't decide between the pirc and the czech pirc! Which one do you recommend for a tournament?
@NMRobertRamirez
@NMRobertRamirez 3 жыл бұрын
Hello! It would depend mainly on how much time you have to prepare for the tournament. If it is coming up soon (less than a moth) I would stick to the Czech Pirc because it is easier to learn and implement. The regular Pirc is more dynamic and offers more to Black, but it also requires more preparation. For the Czech, just make sure you review the material from lessons # 51, 53 and 57 👍

For first one, I’m thinking Qc7 since he can’t castle queenside and kingside is opened, his king is stuck in the middle so exchanging queens helps him. Qa4 just gets kicked by Nc3.

I use the Pirc since 2017. But your lessons made it a very effective weapon. Thanks! In addition, I like your aggressive (energetic...) style! Great! I went meanwhile up from about 1700 to 1930

Hello! You must be looking for quick Chess lessons... Trust me, it would be way easier for me to wrap it up in 10 minutes, but I feel like all of the extra information can be helpful for those following this course in order. Remember, you can always use the skip button or find the material from other resources, which are more efficient for you 👍😎
