Touwsrivier is a small railway town with a population of 6800 people. It is 180 kilometers away from Cape Town and is still within the Western Province. It is situated within the central point of the Karoo and is known for being a poverty-stricken community.
A young man, Daniel Mantambo left this town, his hometown, in 2012 after growing up and attending school there.
He spent the next two years of his life in Cape Town and decided to write a novel about his childhood within this small town. He went on to study entrepreneurship and is now a graduate Social Entrepreneur who has the intention to uplift his community.
The novel he wrote inspired him to move back to Touwsrivier as he came to realize that hope is what he could bring back into the hearts of individuals, families and the youth of this community.
Daniel hopes that this pilot documentary will inspire his town and the rest of the world. He is looking to make a difference in his community through his storytelling by inspiring young minds to be and dream more.
A poor community with a rich potential and diversity of talented people somehow became lost, and he now has the intention to go on a journey of rediscovery.
AT Digital followed Daniel to Touwsrivier for the day to shoot this pilot. It was an incredible experience and inspired us greatly.
