Anita was 24 in the start of the books in 93. Now she's 32 in Slay. She's aged less than a decade over 30 books. A lot of the books take place only months apart in the same year in the Anitaverse. So it's not 2023 in Slay even though the technology seems that way now. There was a "tech jump" a few books back where Anita went from basic cell phone to smart phone. The author said on tiktok that Anita is in an unspecified time in the books. That's why there is never a mention of what year it is. The beginning of the books seems very 90s with Anita having only a pager and no cell phone. There is even mention of a car phone in the third book I think. So this story is still kind of in what for us -the readers- is the past. That's why the polyamory thing keeps getting brought up. It's not 2023 so polyamory is not as accepted and Anita is still holding on to old-fashioned ideas about everything.

Yep. Like I mentioned in the video, it's past time to move things on.

I am so impressed you made it so far into that series. I never read it, but I had a friend who was super into it. You absolutely killed this video, so well done. I watched the whole ding dong thing and have read zero of her books, hahaha.

I’m book 14 or 15 and I am struggling 😩😩 I loved the crimes and action with the minimal sex. Now it is just sex sex sex lol. Where is the crime?

Its all she knows how to write now and how she keeps fans is beyond my understanding. Well actually she's had a mass exodus only the despot seem to stick around for her trash. Talk about a waste

I agree with most of what you said, I used to do a reread of all the books before the new one comes out and after the New Mexico book before Anita becomes a marshal. The story is harder and harder to read unless you just skim past the sex. On a side note. There is 1 less person to cause drama in the Group.

I guess Laurell is poly. She has a big article on it. If I link it, my comment will probably get deleted.

I disagree on one point the stepmom was not at all what I expected her to be ,she was nice ,understanding and supportive unlike how Anita described her all these years , it seems that Anita transferred/ blamed all her problems on her stepmom to avoid the real issue which was her Father & Grandma

Finally, someone said it! Not to mention she's pretty much become a man-hater. Personally, if i was to write a fanfic i would make it one of an illegitimate son for Edward and they're estranged because hes not human. Even have a character in my own writing that would work. But part of his powers is he's fireproof and routinely does salamander exterminations xD

I stop taking Edward seriously after it became apparent that adding him to each story was to maintain "edge" in light of all the bedroom drama.

@@TowelTroi I can see that. And every interaction with members of the polycule just feels like Hamilton is showing off how many lovers Anita has than actually story and world building.
