I suspect the crew was ready for takeoff when they called ready...then a small issue arose and they wanted to (rightly) resolve the issue before taking off. The crew was probably confident that safety was not an issue and it could be resolved quickly. The captain is the aircraft commander and the jet does not move unless he is ready...regardless of normal timing/spacing/pacing. If there was a major conflict, ATC, the captain or both could have and would have cancelled the takeoff clearance.

At LAX if a plane took that long to roll after takeoff clearance the clearance would be cancelled and the aircraft instructed to taxi off the runway. When you say you’re ready, be ready. Not halfway through your takeoff checklist.

@@FarnboroughAviation-nb2or I was FO on that flight. As one of the replies below mentions, it was a training flight. There were two training captains and me. From memory the delay was due to being meticulous with the line-up checks and in particular an explanation of the gust-lock release which differed from the E145 simulator at CAE where I’d done my training and the Legacy operated by my company. This was my first flight in this particular plane. Hope that’s helpful. It’s a great video and I would love a clean copy if possible.

@@pilotjonno5789 did the CA's not care about the fact that you guys were already given an explicit takeoff clearance? I'm genuinely wondering this. Why report ready for T/O when you guys still had to do lineup checks and explanations etc?
@pilotjonno5789Ай бұрын
@ line up checks are only done when entering the runway. We had checks complete to that point. It was a training flight so things were deliberately slow. The controller knew this as our callsign suffix was Tango. Where the controllers get cross is if an aircraft calls ready and actually isn’t - plenty of KZbin examples of this. Farnborough isn’t a busy airport so they were relaxed. The reason they asked us if all was ok was that there was an aircraft joining the approach. So they had the option to cancel our clearance if we weren’t already rolling. Another small point: you never report ready for Takeoff, always “Departure” … if you watch any of the air accident investigation programmes on the Tenerife disaster you’ll see why.
@robav8orАй бұрын
There is no time limit requirement to depart when cleared for takeoff. The only exception might be if the controller states “Cleared for immediate takeoff”.
@FarnboroughAviation-nb2orАй бұрын
@robav8or - it’s not very clear on the film but after the tower had reconfirmed the takeoff, just as the a/c starts rolling, tower advise there is landing traffic 6 miles- so I think if they had delayed much longer there would have been problems!
@robav8orАй бұрын
@ 6 miles for a jet with an approximate approach speed of 2 miles/minute is quite a long time. Even more if the traffic is a small GA aircraft.
@nightwaves3203Ай бұрын
An IFR clearance is for a specific time and not earlier. Then there is is questions are going on it's a distraction, so you have to finish whatever distraction before proceeding with takeoff. Tower isn't flying the plane no matter how much he might think he is.
