I think your right in a way with the crystal because when its first introduced like you said and like its kinda shown its the essence of bravery being able to go to a battlefield and not be scared that you will die that was what kallavan thought as bravery and the essence of nothingness part is the mans hollow self he became the only reason he was able to go to those battle fields and not be afraid to die was because he had lost something and because of that he wanted to turn back time to make sure he didn't become what he was and we see both of those aspects reflected in kallavan when ever he fights he's not afraid of death he isn't afraid of anything really that's the essence of bravery part but most recently after the death of the fourth squadron it shows a bit of the essence of nothingness where since his family his people died in vain he felt regret and sadness and longed for the time when it was just them but his want to be the fourth squadron commander was what got them all killed as they where loyal to him and did what he asked probably something similar to that happened to the man in the gem his allies where loyal to him and so they where killed when they tried to help the man take something back so the man would carry the weight of his dead allies and companions thinking its his fault they died that to get what he wanted he had to kill them all even though to get what he wanted they didn't have to die so they died in vain just like with kallavan so this want kallavan has will make him strong enough to not fear death or anything but he will loose a lot more to truly achieve a goal he has weather it being uniting all under jahad or being the fourth squadron commander again he will most likely loose a lot more and become like the man in the essence crystal

I'm afraid Kallavan won't survive "The Nest" arc. Lyborick is a Khun + Poe Bidau, right hand man of Adori, the mastermind that destroyed Hidden Groove, has potential to become another major villain. It's unlikely such character will just get killed by Kallavan. Also we saw the pattern when SIU want to emphasize how strong a newly introduced character is, he'll make them defeat strong older character, like when Kallavan defeat Ha JinSung and Yasratcha defeat Yama. Kallavan already got too much spotlight in the story lately. His background and his full power already shown. He has already served his purpose as a character and I think SIU might kill him off via Lyborick. Even if he can defeat Lyborick, Jahad will execute him later for treason. The only way for him to survive is to defect to FUG, but that'll be so out of character for one of the most loyal Jahad worshipper like him. He'd rather accept his punishment like a proud soldier. Either way, it's hard to see how Kallavan can survive this arc.

As an aside, Kallavan has never had his rank explicitly stated. The closest thing we've gotten is a remark by Maschenny, who we know to be top 100, at the Last Station: "Using remote reverse flow control against two of the highest rankers" but it's still difficult to narrow down an exact range since the tolerances are still in the hundreds, and combat prowess alone can't be used as the sole judge of the ranking. As such, it's not certain at all that Kallavan's in the top 100.

Interesting take on The Essence of Bravery. Especially considering the literal translation being Essence of Nothingness. I feel SIU was point out something deeper. In many religions and beliefs, becoming Nothing (or Nobody) is the ultimate bliss. It's enlightenment. Hi Bonehead, are you still around? Could you please make a video about the design and personality changes for Kallavan? In the Last Station arc, he was very thin and inexperienced looking. He had a more kind and philosophical outlook on life and why he believed protecting and serving Jahad was the right thing to do But after his demotion, he massively buffed up and changed his attacks and fighting style. He no longer breaks crystals to power up, and his attacks aren't as quick or hard hitting His power level was nerfed into the ground. He's a lot weaker and more fragile now than what SIU originally intended, which was for Kallavan to be an undefeatable philosopher general whose body couldn't be hurt by even high rankers

Throughout tge battle jinsung hesitated as he reminisced about his past with kallavan, whereas kallavan wasn't holding back. I suspect that this actually ties back to baam. In the flashback where he first starts teaching him, as he questions the morals of forcing him, hansung remarks that until now he would mercilessly kill, even his wn brach of the Ha family, to which jinsung responds that his emotions have been reawakened.

But after failing, he decides to team up with the very people who led to his downfall to restore his previous glory. That just deminishes Kalavan.
