Alice, knowing how intrigued you are with Roman History this must have been one fabulous dream come true visiting the lighthouse-tower. And who could blame you. What a magnificent structure and so well maintained. Those bricks are. well for want of a better word, quirky to say the least. So clever the architects and builders of the past.great music choice by the way. It must have been awkward reporting in the tower- with the echo and reverberating of the sound. I spent two hours in the tower, just looking at the internal architecture. It is an incredible structure that is still in use as a lighthouse today. I watched other tourists spend 15 minutes inside, just long enough to climb to the top and see the view! Filming inside was difficult for numerous reasons, and it was all recorded out of order! Just too many people inside at times.

Thank you for your lovely comment. My passion for Roman history is huge and I'm pleased you enjoyed this tower video. There are so many other worthy Ronan buildings, in an amazing state of preservation, I'm inching to visit. There is another Roman ruin to come and I film another in a few weeks. Can't wait.

Fascinating! It’s incredible what romans were capable of really. I wonder what sort of world we would live in now if they had stayed around.

Probably a better world. The Romans were far ahead of their time in terms of construction. My series from Provence showcases some better preserved Roman buildings.

The lighthouse is incredible and in such amazing condition. I wonder if those small holes in some of the stonework could be for perhaps marble facing at one time? I've seen such holes in other Roman structures where the original marble has gone, so that's a possibility, though why they would have it in just a few places seems a bit odd. Just a thought.

I'm still puzzled about those holes. Perhaps they were there to aid lifting them into place.
