Hi mate, I think you would be ok.. but 100% depends on how much experience and skill you have towing with the van on. We had a great group with us on the radios and we a huge amount of towing time with our setup.. and we did drive the road back the other way first, so we had that bit of extra knowledge, which was lucky. Our van is 20.6 and would have been around 3t I’d say at a guess.

Nice information and footage, looks amazing. Do you think a 21.5ft semi off road van would be suitable for that road? Thank you 👍

Hey mate. Ours is a 20.5 and did it ok, but I’d strongly suggest doing a LOT of research before attempting.. and being 110% sure your fully confident in your setup and ability’s too.

@@AussieVanAdventures thank you, I appreciate your feedback there, I was planning on doing the gibb in WA and seeing how our set up goes over there and then make a decision from there, im definitely a bit nervous about it. It looks very nice up there, again thank you for your help 👍

You are brave mate. We Weren’t game enough so drove the longer wad around then on to the ferry. Stayed at Lync Haven too. They have pet pythons at the front and a resident croc. Daintree and Cape Trib are stunning! Stay croc wise. Do not enter water especially after dark. Someone got taken a few he’s has ago. Daintree Ice creamery was super yum esp the mango flavour. Enjoyed the vid bud. Thanks

Thanks for watching! Yes it involved a lot of thinking and second guessing my self.. but glad we did it. Yea we drove the long way around when we went from port Douglas to cook town… (and I’d just done it racing back from punsand bay after Ollie had his accident up there) so three times in total.. we knew that if we could avoid doing that road again, and replace it with some thing different.. it would be much better and a risk we wanted to take. Turned out good. Haha yes!!! The python was on the table out the front when we were there!!! Beautiful place, that’s for sure!

Both engine and trans temps seem to hold up ok.

Both seemed to be good, it was quite hot and muggy there too. The patrol is good at locking up in a gear, specially when in manual mode, which we tend to use with this sort of road.

Yes, there is no way we would have tried in the wet.. we were lucky it was at least a week since any wetness.. so we did the creb track and after going back down the bloomfield.. we thought 'we might not ever get the opportunity to try this again'

28 might be slightly hard still 25 prob better ... tyres squealed around corner cause you had your diff lock on .. that first hill you were maxing out in 1st gear when it needed 2nd ..
@AussieVanAdventures
@AussieVanAdventures 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! For sure, 25psi could have been better, yes.. we were worried there wasn't going to be much room to pull over and re-inflate.. and knew there was a bit of sealed road too.. so we tried to find a happy medium pressure. All tyres were loosing traction, not just the inside, but yes the diff lock added to the squealing. We had it in manual 1st, as the video shows in no way at all just how steep these hills were and it bogged down a bit in 2nd in places and didnt want to risk loosing momentum. Theres lots we would know and do differently if we did it again, this was our first time and we were being overly cautious i guess.

Obviously did not notice signage put up by people who have to do rescues of stupid people , the ones who want to be rescued when they are in trouble, real adventures don't need a washing machine and bathroom in tow :-) and keep your hands on the wheel when your driving, not a good look in videos. Lucky you did not do the Bloomfield track back when it was built, you still had to drive through the Bloomfield River and no concrete on steep sections back then, no bridges anywhere. Was a serious track. Try the CREB track next time, that should keep you smiling. Seems you have an admiring group of like minded people?

Hi Alan, thanks for watching! Yes we did see the signs and as we outlined in the video, we did a lot of background research and investigating (including actually fully driving the track ourselves the day before) we know our gear very very well and know exactly what it is and isn’t capable of doing (we have taken it to all corners of the place that a lot of people might not) No, we don’t need a bathroom and washing machine in tow.. (you will be happy to hear that the washing machine is actually coming to make more storage) BUT.. we can do everything we need and to date with all our traveling it doesn’t restrict us.. so why wouldn’t we bring it? We always have at least a single hand on the wheel. Would love to have had the opportunity to do the Bloomfield back when it was built.. unfortunately I was only 1yo back in 1984 though.. my parents were not as adventurous as we are with our kids though. Did you do the track your self back then? It sounds like an adventure! Yes we did the CREB track the day before we did the Bloomfield track, which is why we travels the full track without the van. Again, thanks for watching! Would love to hear about some of the adventures you have done.

@@AussieVanAdventuresVery polite reply, I am a cranky old bugger, been running large building projects for 45 years before I retired, lived in Palm Cove for 31/2 years back in late 80's, built a few of the resorts there. We had an old Hilux back then, small motor, no winch, built a bed in the back with storage under and an esky, we did everything in the area, except all of Cape York back then ,you only had to drive 100ks out of Cairns and you were in the real outback, as I said most of the roads where very bad, Cooktown was like graded rock with big bits sticking up. Bloomfield was rough as guts, the local indigenous made quite a business of digging holes in the river and pulling out inexperienced travellers, no bridge or causeway back then just the bulldozer track, those steep climbs needed some with a rock to put under your wheel if you needed a brake :-), Met a couple of backpackers trying to do one day in an old EH Holden, told them if they got over into the first valley they would never get out, so they gave up. Anyway I could boar you for hours, we sold up everything in 2000 and did 5 years around Oz, been just about everywhere now, have never seen a show on TV where we have not been except perhaps remote Ahrnem Land where you need permits, we have been lucky with my work, as I have done jobs in Darwin, Cairns, Townsville, Perth, Gold Coast, Ballina, Port Macquarie, Warwick, it gives you the opportunity to see an area properly, Anyway try to behave yourself you look like a decent bloke just don't break the rules, Australia is being ruined by bogans doing the wrong thing, don't be one mate, it is a different place from before you were born pretty ruined now, LOL I am 75. you could camp just about anywhere when I was your age. Regards Alan
