Pro tip (from someone that's done Durham/Portsmouth/DC/SC and back a bunch of times): I-77/I-81/I78/I80/I287 (Cuomo/Tappan Zee) is your friend. I-95 and any routing through NYC is a guaranteed nightmare. Used to be you could drive late at night and avoid problems on I-95, but it's a cluster from NYC all the way to Richmond at all hours now. Hope you have a great summer. You left Chucktown just in time to miss the 100 degree weather....

81 is a mess around the holidays. I'd avoid it at those times. Every time there would be 8 accidents on my way down. If he went this route it would probably take about the same time as he'd end up way inland to get to Charleston. 95 can be much quicker in spite of traffic.

Just bought a PA owned 2001 Chevy 2500 HD with 168k miles. Was a plow truck most of its life but it has little to no frame rot due to the undiagnosed rear main seal and valve cover leaks. Only required one rocker panel replacement and a rear quarter replacement. Engine runs strong transmission is great and for 1900 dollars i think i stole her. as for your fuel tank problem, the transfer pump in the rear tank is bad or not getting power. the truck pcm monitors both level senders in the tanks and when the front one is getting low it kicks the transfer pump on to move the fuel to the front tank for the engine to pickup. the fuel gauge says half because its a combined sum of the levels in both tanks.

I had a 2001 f150 with 236,000 miles that burned oil, leaky power steering, 4 nearly bald tires, 2 which were held together by Fix A flat. Life circumstances came up and I had to make a 915 mile trip to Missouri, and within a week take the trip back so 1,830 miles total. And besides keep filling up the oil and power steering, she took it like a champ. I swear I would still have that truck today if I wasn't rearended so hard a year ago, totaling it.... Everyone has a brand they are loyal to, Ford made me a lifetime customer with that truck...
