Towing is the one thing my vehicle is not very capable of. It’s capable of off-road (not as much as like a jeep or truck but it can handle some mud I heard) and many utility in combination of luxury and towing only up to 1500 lbs. No problem with snow, has a spacious interior and is compact yet can fit a bike. 2012 Acura RDX turbo.

You need a $500 bag with straps and shackles to help others and lucky if they offer you a coffee. Had one guy act like i owed him the recovery after pulling him out of the ditch! Wouldnt even say thanks. Wished it was an option to push him back in. I dont usually accept money, but it's nice when they atleast make the offer

im a little worried so ill get a few more opinions...what should a person be prepared to hook on to with todays FWD passenger cars? i've heard axles (sounds scary) or A frames? from the front wheel assembly? if a car has a screw in tow hook clearly that would be preferred, usually stored in the trunk? my lady drives a FWD chevy traverse, anything good to hook on to in the front end? i'd use the receiver pulling backwards. thanks for any help and if nothing else for an entertaining video.

All cars come with a towing eye. Use that.
@andrewsnow73864 жыл бұрын
@@motorvelo Most North American (U.S.) cars don't have any towing eye -- at least not the ones sold in the USA. Like you, I tow stuck vehicles when it snow. Over the years I've towed a few hundred. It's always annoying when I pull up to a U.S. make because I know I'll have to slide under the car in the wet snow to find something strong to hook to.
@andrewsnow73864 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately there isn't any one thing that I can recommend you attach to on cars with no towing eye. First though, are some things NOT to connect to: Anything plastic. Any part that moves when someone turns the steering wheel. The drive shaft (aka, the CV shaft, the axle shaft, etc). That said, I first look for a metal cross-member under the engine -- if it's supporting the engine, it's probably strong enough to tow the car. BUT BE CAREFUL, if the engine is running, make sure you know where the turning pats are. Get your fingers caught in the belt, and you might lose fingers or get a broken arm. If you can't find a cross member (they are often hidden by plastic aerodynamic fairings), then look to the suspension. Usually you can find a control arm that is beefy enough to hook to. But if you are not POSITIVE what the difference is between a control arm, a steering tie rod, and the axle shaft, then you need to study up on these things before you try to hook to a car. Also, I highly recommend a NYLON rope or strap. Other materials are stronger, but only nylon has the stretch you need. The stretch helps a lot to reduce shock and avoid damage. I never use a chain, because they have so little stretch. You can use one if you are careful to slowly take out all the slack before you start the real pull. But, if the car being towed gets traction and catches up a bit and then backs off, the chain is going to snap really hard and probably brake something.
