I have a 2012 5.3 with the 6spd trans. I haul a mini excavator with it for about a year almost every day. the only problem I had was that the trans temp stay up 200 to 215 at first. I installed a bigger trans cooler and it kept it at between 150 and 180 degree. the chevy 1500 have the trans oil line running directly to the radiator having it like so hauling big weight the antifreeze will get hotter it'll cause the trans fluid running through it be a higher temp as well. trust me I don't care how much tech they place in a trany, 200 degree or above that it'll kill the trany. especially hauling heavy stuff. I'm still using my truck haven't had any transmission problem thank God.

My LTZ has max trailering package which includes the enhanced engine cooler and few other things. Don't care for painted grill, bumpers, mirrors, door handles on high country. Plus, all them had 22" rims, and sunroofs which I don't care for. CHROME IS KING! I already replaced my 20's in favor of 18's for better quality ride. Also, 0 offset wheels with quality AT tires make it look more like what a real truck should look like. I'll have to check my window sticker and read again. Thinking I recall something about the trans cooler maybe being larger. Not sure if read that on my sticker or somewhere else(comparison to non max trailering)or different (2500) vehicle or something?

Man be careful that transmission is about to go out on you. I have a 2017 same set up. 92000 miles and blew the tranny twice !!! The problem is the torque converter cover comes apart and gets in the trans. Chevy should have recalled it!!!!!!! First rebuild was stock and again my trans would run those temp numbers. 12 months later to the date the warranty was out , yup blew it again and I'm not towing anything heavy just my bass boat occasionally. 2nd rebuild went with billet torque converter, heavy duty clutches , fluid bypass and trans cooler. My truck trans when towing doesn't get over 170 now. Heat will kill your trans and it ain't cheap. $4500 first build second rebuild $6000! Also the low pressure brake pump replace it, as well replace the ac condenser when it breaks with one with support for the evaporator. The stock one has no support and it will crack your condenser and all that expensive freon will escape. Been a chevy fan all my life but this truck has taking $1000 of dollars to fix what should have been fixed before chevy sold em.
