Brilliant vid pal. 15:30 is a very common situation I've found myself in. I feel a Couple of other options are available; if the situation is safe to do so, roll off the throttle to ensure you are not in his blind spot or increase speeds slightly above the speed limit to ensure you're past him and again nlt in his blind spot. 👍

It's mostly down to traffic flow. Most people wanting to turn left would have gone down the 'straight on left' before the county ground.

@@RoadcraftNottingham believe me, I understand those 'motivation problems'. I have them every morning at about 6:45 when the alarm goes off. I think as we get older, we tend to wonder if what we're doing really makes a difference. Let me assure you that even though I STILL don't have a motorcycle, your videos are very important and when I do get one, I will be putting into practice a lot of what you're teaching, even though I'm on the other side of the pond and drive 'on the wrong side of the road!' LOL For those lucky enough to have a motorcycle now, your videos can bring home in a real way the dangers of riding, like at 17:00 minutes into this video. That little clip scared the crap out of me, because it wasn't expected, and I don't think your student was doing anything wrong, except being in part of the lane that he shouldn't have been in. If people don't learn from that, then they shouldn't be out there on a bike. So, understand that your work and your videos have a lot of value to everyone. Even when I drive a car, I'm still watching out for bikers and trying to do my best around them to make sure they're safe, because I watch your videos.

You're comments about the wet and keeping outside of it because you don't know what it is are top reminders. Also helping a gap at lights in case somebody reverses etc. I always feel pressure to get close to the car in front but there's just disadvantages to that approach.

Your observation regarding vehicles in the right hand lane at the lights, and whether they get up there is interesting. In NZ in that scenario, most drivers default to the right lane, and it is often the driver who wants to jump the queue who go to the left. The risk they take is that if a vehicle then decides to turn left and a pedestrian is crossing the side-street the turning car has to give priority to the pedestrian and the car trying to jump the queue has to wait for the turning vehicle. All in if I have filtered to the front it leaves me watching both lanes for potential risk.

I have a question for you, I understand the concept of counter steering around bends, please could I have your thoughts and advice on counter leaning? Counter leaning is speed related, the faster you go the more you need to start leaning with the bike to the extreme that Marquez is hanging off.

Heyup,just a thought ,as I'm coming to a stop at lights ,junctions etc ,once e my speeds down I release front brake and I just use back brake as I'm actually coming to a halt. I find that this balances the bike , I also find when crawling along slowly that I dab the back brake which tends to keep the bike stable.

I was happy you leave that space stopped behind the lorry so you can do something if the car behind has forgotten you are there ... Looking at hair or text messages ! I know it would be a bit of a techi thing to pull off : It would be very cool to have an ongoing rear view in a corner of your clips .Adding all the decisions that have to be made on what is behind you .. . I have had a close call to falling over at a complete stop on the oil patch at what we call ticket Booths on certain motorways here in New England . It has to be treated just like ice .. I cover my brakes when I see a hazard coming then move my fingers when the hazard has passed. That way I'm fully aware of using my brakes and not using them out of habit... "use your brakes when you CHOOSE your brakes"

I'm a long time subscriber to your channel, to the point where I almost travelled from Reading to Nottinghamshire to do DAS with you a few years ago. What I find most interesting is that you never filtered even when you had an opportunity to (even in the name of progress). Any reason why? I always find myself asking... To filter or not to filter... When I have good knowledge of how traffic with merge after a junction I always filter but when I have no knowledge or clear view of the junction ahead I usually choose to sit in traffic.

Oh I always thought it was advanced teaching to activate rear brake light when stopped? There use to be a term called “The Hendon Shuffle” to describe Police Motorcyclists when pulling away from standstill and doing a little “Dance” by switching legs to select gear and then changing back to cover brake.

Watching for traffic and road hazards "turns dangers into inconveniences". +1 I imagine that SR/S is ideal for your work. My SR/F is ideal for around town. I find it difficult to get the belt tension just right. Have you experienced that?

Hey Bill. The srs is perfect for instructing and 150 miles around town isn't uncommon. I've not had any problems with the tensions. I also set it towards the looser end of the acceptable scale.

Hello mate, I'm thinking about getting my bike licenses, selling my car and just using a bike as my daily due to fuel prices 🥲 only problem is I drive 250 miles from the midlands to west Wales and back every weekend. Do you think as a new rider that would be too advanced/uncomfortable or is it obtainable?

For three seasons of the year it's a great idea. A faired bike is better than a naked for those sort of trips, but your biggest challenge is going to be cold and wet weather. I'll happily ride in low temperatures and I'll happily ride in the wet, but I hate riding when it's both cold and wet!

That diesel spill is inexcusable, it should never happen, but it does. Another nasty to watch out for is blobs of graphite grease from HGV pivot plates.

The small chevron area at 6:52, as I see it there is a short solid curved line for traffic coming in the opposite direction that turns into a dashed line, I presume the solid part is to guide traffic away from clipping the kerb on the central reservation. Likewise the solid line for your direction is to guide traffic from doing the same so I can only assume it's illegal to cross that solid white line as you did with blatant disregard for road traffic laws :D It's always been a subject of interest to me as some chevron areas that lead into right turn only lanes or filter lanes are dashed on ONLY the diagonal 'lead in' line and some are solid. Take note of my findings, I shall be writing to my MP in the morning :)

Viewing the video evidence, I find in the defendant's behalf that no highway code infringement occurred. In that the front wheel clearly crossing between the solid and dashed line, therefore I dismiss the case without prejudice. ;)

7:25 I don't think you're helping anyone by indicating to go around a bend on the road you're already on. While the direction of the road goes ahead, the road markings clearly show it's a different road you'd be joining and the bend itself has road markings to show it's a continued road. If anything, I'd be thinking you're indicating the wrong way to turn there or attempting to cut across the road to park on the otherside or again access to the pacany building. But as you're not changing lane or moving to a new road, I wouldn't expect you to be indicating. Edit: To be clear, I think the roadlay out itself is bad, and it's a judgement call if you are or not to do it. It's just my view if I saw someone doing it.

It's a very fair point as the indicator means I intend to turn or move out to... If I thought it would be misunderstood I'd consider not doing it. That junction from past experience can be a pain. I suppose if anything, it just gets people noticing an indicator and hopefully thinking.

I'd indicate right there also, but only if there was a car waiting in the junction. Positioning towards the left (pos 1 or 2) on approach could convince the driver you are actually going straight on, so a right indicator lets them know. Don't forget drivers often don't understand why we position and it can be an implied signal to them, that we didn't intend.

Not at all, you need to create a safe following distance. There's the risk of crowding if the vehicle in front brakes again. Maybe the camera makes things look further away. Give me a specific time code and I'll take a look again.

@@RoadcraftNottingham 2:20 and 3:09 you look to be hanging around late this will frustrate traffic behind , maybe expecting you to be a bit quicker...could this even be a potential rear end'er if the cars dont judge your progress correctly.

@@charlieoscar09 thanks for the reply. I don't see anything wrong with those as I was letting a safe gap open up, especially if the vehicle stops again for any reason. May be the camera lens distorting the view but thanks for the feedback.
