People, if u would simply take the time to lower your air pressure, this stuff doesn't happen, I live on Long Island, NY we drive on our shoreline here in the softest fluffy sand, I had a Tacoma with normal street tires that I could drive all over the place on the dunes, even in 2WD, just because I dropped the air pressure to 15 lbs, if u don't drop your air pressure you'll be stuck in 4WD in a matter of seconds.....

Amazing the types of things people make youtube videos about. You've taken a mundane everyday job like being a tow truck driver that most people known next to nothing about, and step by step you managed to make it informative and interesting as you went about doing that job, and giving it small doses of context and perspective by sharing relevant comments about your life in the process. Well done. It's no wonder you've got over 81k subscribers. Worth the watch!

I've been driving on the beach over 43 years on long Island. Probably over 100k beach miles. Any 4wd vehicle with enough ground clearance can drive on the beach. The trick to not getting stuck in the soft stuff is to air down your tires. How much depends on the vehicle. 15-20 psi total pressure per tire is usually good for most suv's and light trucks. 20-30 psi for heavier trucks with slide in campers or trailers. Don't forget the trailer tires too. This will allow you to drive on top of the sand instead of digging in because lowering your tire pressure makes your sidewall on your tires bulge out giving you a wider footprint. It also helps to keep your wheels straight when starting to go and don't turn until you have some momentum going. Don't forget to air your tires back up b4 traveling above 20mph or too far because you will destroy the inside sidewall of your tires.

No, diesels without the proper tires, differential lockers and intelligent drivers that actually know how to drive in the sand are the problem. He was trying to drag that huge 5th wheel at the same time too. He gets what he deserves.

That driver is the worst I've seen in a long time. He has no throttle control and just keeps surging the truck, you tell him "keep the tire from spinning" and he over throttles and starts spinning all 4. He then turns his wheel to the left to stay on the soft sand instead of going straight. This guy is so ignorant when it comes to understanding how he got where he is, he cannot be helped and will get stuck again.

It isn't diesels and sand, it is bad drivers and high tire pressure, especially on dry sand! I've driven on sand with an F-350 single rear wheel multiple times for a job while towing a towable manlift. I almost got stuck so I deflated tires to 30 psi after that and that made a world of difference! It took awhile to pump 4 tires back up to 50 PSI (65 PSI was inflation pressure per door sticker but I was not hauling anything heavy at this time) each day to drive home.

You do great work, Dustin! As a semi-helpful tip to you and your viewers, we would each be served well if you had clean windows in your truck for visibility. Use 0000 steel wool on your windows, and follow with a good cleaner made of 50% hydrogen peroxide, and 50% distilled water. Cheap and effective . . . your eyes and your viewers will thank you!

Wow!!! Just wow!!! This looks to be damp beach sand which is NOTHING like the dry blow sand of Glamis sand dunes. Looks like narrow tires and not aired down. Sand like this you need speed to stay on top of the sand. But to sit there spinning tires until you're sitting on the frame? What a maroon. I have a Cummins, heavy camper with ARB lockers front & rear and I haulz azz through softer stuff than this until I get to firmer stuff aired down to 15-17 psi on 12.5 wide tires.

At our beach I use a 4x4 diesel van and can pull most things when I’m aired down to 10-15 psi. The weight distribution seems to be better than the trucks and it pulls stuff easier and gentler. As I tell the onlookers, if I do it right it looks boring every time.

Yeah maybe the tyres are too agressive for sand and they look very (normal) inflated for sand... 15 psi and street tyres should be better.
@Towtruck_Dustin3 ай бұрын
The real problem here is weight, not tires. Those are just “all-terrain” tires, nothing more than an aggressive street tire. Aggressive tires on sand aren’t a problem if you know how to drive. I exclusively run some of the most aggressive tires made on my vehicles, with zero issues. If it ain’t digging, you don’t have traction, thus not going anywhere anyway. Airing down on that truck won’t help either because it doesn’t have enough sidewall to flex or flatten out.

Let some air out of your tires
@DavidThomas453Ай бұрын
Doesn’t matter a whole lot. We do it with street, AT tires and Toyo RTs. The key is airing down. At 10 psi it’ll go about anywhere. That’s all tires plus the trailer if you are towing one. Get them all aired down.
