I'm bias, of course, but as someone who's been a fan of Rammstein for a good long while now, I've always found the fandom to be pretty chill. Like, there's disagreements but IDK, something about that band just tends to attract a more mentally mature crowd for some reason. Not to say that anyone who doesn't like them ISN'T mature or anything, it's just a vibe. Like when I talk to other Rammstein fans, especially online, it feels like I'm talking to adults. And that isn't something that's shared with some other bands.
@MetalTrenches2 жыл бұрын
I've mostly had that experience. The worst ones are usually being assholes about not having perfect pronunciation
@kayleighbrown4592 жыл бұрын
@@MetalTrenches Yes. That's one of the few things we do tend to get niggly about. I've normally seen that kinda thing in comments of loudwire videos and the like. Which, I kinda understand cause like channels like those should probably do a bit of research into how to pronounce German words if they're gonna talk about German songs. But if it's just like average every days people, it's pretty cringe at best. I've also come across some very VERY minor gate keeping with certain people who can speak fluent German but it's not really common. Also we Europeans fans tend to make fun of America. Like, a lot. For most it's just a bit of fun but there's always the odd few bad apples.

I think with Arch Enemy it is even worse than Jinjer. I am a girl and can not go to their concerts alone anymore. Already in the queue there was a guy not leaving me alone for hours until we got in, even though I told him multiple times to fuck off. I also met the band that day and the people next to me talked about Alissa like she was some kind of hooker. Even in the small moshpit I was in was a guy who just wouldn't leave me alone until I screamed at him to stop. In the livestreams, there are also so many thirst comments and it is very embarrassing.
@MetalTrenches Жыл бұрын
That's shitty. And yeah, the treatment of Alyssa is gross. Like look, I'm a guy and I'm not made of stone... she's gorgeous. But that doesn't mean I have to constantly objectify her and feel the need to verbalize every thought I have about her looks. Some things you just keep to yourself.
@counterflare Жыл бұрын
I am writing news for a long time running Arch Enemy fanpage and have access to all the comments people ever left since 2007, and can relate, Alissa's fans are horrible. Yes there have always been haters and thirsty douchebags, but seems like people treat her with way less respect than Angela. Most of the new fans I see there don't even care about the band too much, they only want the singer's photos, only comment them and only in inappropriate way. A few years ago I was ensured that is Johan fanbase that is the most toxic, but now I feel so sorry for her, Michael and the guys actually UPD: Apparently now we have a load of people who write s..t about Angela's appearance, even making horrdenous comments referred to N.zi Germany. Pure Pain) - Possessed (Tiresome, we know it was the birth of DM) - Death (Are You Still There … Sorry Chuck) - Bring Me The Horizon (Fanatics) - Messhugah (Are You Still There … Nothing relevant since Obzen sorry) - Limp Bizkit (Dumb of course) - Manowar and Danzig (Are you Still here ? Nobody listens to them anymore) - Megadeth (Tiresome … Dave was in Metallica, really ?)

Metal Meltdown would probably included Fear Factory in “Are you still here”? Or Fanatics, Dino himself unfortunately encourages the terrible behavior that has been going on for fucking decades. Still my favorite band, but without Burton.... Idk if I'll stick around much longer, the history of this band us quite the tragedy and a perfect representation of a clash of egos. The nicest members the band got in their history were Rhys Fulber, Raymond Herrera, Gene Hoglan, Byron Stroud and Mike Heller in my opinion.

The Tool fans are definitely unbeatable … but it is sometimes funny because they take themselves so super serious 😂 I had my bad experience with Deafheaven fans simply because I called the new album boring and uninspired ( and I’m one of those “hipsters“ who also liked Sunbather 😉). Have to say that Iron Maiden fans are like Slipknot fans based on my experience. Everything they do is a 10/10 and by the way they are a progressive band now because they write long songs😉

In light of recent event (Metal Meltdown will probably agree) I'd include Fear Factory at top tier. I had never come across a fan of theirs before and wasn't too familiar with their music either. But the general consensus (including the band leader himself) in the comments unter Metal Meltdown's review was that Fear Factory is the most genious thing the metal world has seen and anyone who disagrees is a poser or whatever.

MetalTrench is a mega fan of FF, so he had bias for the new album Aggression Continuum, not to say that's a bad thing, but he was kind on it. However Metal Meltdown was kinda purposely mean to the new one to even say it's worst than Transgression (the objectively worst FF album) but at the same time he wasn't dunking on anyone that loves the new material, he encourages the positivity even. However, since the moment he mentioned he liked Transgression better than AC, it's when he railed A LOT of people, including Dino Cazares himself to some extent. Is the FF video still up?? Haven't seen it pushed by the algorithm

I never knew that Opeth and Jinjer Had The Most Toxic Fandom as Tool and Dream Theater... I love Both Bands and Also I'm a Big Fan of Tool and Dream Theater because thanks to them I introduced myself to all Metal, Not only progressive, It incluides Death, Black, Nu, Alternative, German Thrash, Melodeath, Djent... Etc. but I know how annoying are Tool Fans... More than Dream Theater Fans haha... Well only in My experience... But as Well I keep te Things simplier and I'm Big fan of Rammstein more than DT or Tool, but at Same as Opeth (and Fear Factory, Trivium and Annihilator) Edit: actually I was thinking that Metallica Fans are the worst... But I was surprised that they Don't I love a Lot of that Bands, but I'm honest, they have Things that Sucks Opeth's Heritage Sucks Dream Theater's Systematic Chaos is really good (I Don't know the hate in this Album) Tool's Undertow Sucks more than 10,000 Days (personal opinion and Actually I prefer 10,000 Days than Ænima)

Dream Theater fans are unique in that they hate the band more than anyone else. If you ever say any album after Portnoy is good, there will inevitably be a DT fan who will attack you. The whole Portnoy vs Mangini thing is one of the most annoying things ever with the fans. And with every new album they release (even when Portnoy was still in the band), the fans will always shit on it more than anyone else. It is so tiring to deal with the fans as a fan yourself, it’s like you are not allowed to enjoy any DT album except for the albums they approve of. I have never known of any other band whose own fans criticize their music so much. They are the most heavily criticized band by their own fan base. No matter what DT does, DT fans will hate it. They even wrote a song about how nothing they ever do is enough to satisfy the fans (Never Enough off of the Octavarium album). It’s actually a common thing to say amongst Dream Theater fans that nobody hates Dream Theater more than a Dream Theater fan.

@@MetalTrenches to be fair, I have only ever encountered this online and not in real life. Every DT fan I met in real life was a very nice and chill person and they are very often musicians themselves (mostly guitarists) who just simply love all kinds of music. I always thought of DT as a musicians band making music other musicians like. But that seems to attract a lot of the annoyingly pretentious prog fans. The ones who think complex, technical and groundbreaking is better. But I think they’re a very vocal minority. But man those guys are worse than the Tool fans.

Little late to the party but whatever... I really liked the record, but I discovered tool like a year and a half ago, and even then only selectively listened to a few songs here and there. But then a few weeks ago i listened to all the records in their entirety and all of a sudden fell in love with them in such a weird transcendental way😅 anyway, since I'm not a long time fan, for me it's great that the albums are so different because i can choose FI if I'm feeling calm and melancholic, or Aenima if I want some more anger, or Lateralus if i just want to spiral out and meditate haha I get though if you've been waiting for the record for 13 years and you were hoping for edgier more unique stuff like third eye or Rosetta stoned, it can feel a little like a letdown. I'm really hoping their next will have something along those lines but it seems Maynard has deliberately shifted to a more smooth sound idk

I listen to most of these bands. Slipknot, Metallica, Judas Priest, it's a lot of them here I actually like. I used to be an un-ironic Trapt fan my sophomore year of high school. I listened to that whole debut. But holy shit was I happy to get out because Chris T. Brown is the classic example of someone trying way too hard to make his band relevant when the popularity went down YEARS ago. His Twitter rants made it hard to book shows at bar and grills now. Nobody will probably ever run to their rescue. I listened to Headstrong recently, more like two months ago. And I confirm. It's irrelevant. Thankfully my senses came in and found better nu metal bands, which you actually introduced me to 40 Below Summer and Taproot. So thank you for giving me better music by better bands.

Enjoy the content as always but I do have some thoughts. It seems a lot of this is based off experiences you guys have seen or heard specifically coming from the internet. To keep it a buck, the internet inherently being a platform for people to say literally whatever fucked up or idiotic thing comes to mind without the concern of having any consequences means people will always go to the extreme. I could go to a fuckin K-Pop video and see the same things that you guys mentioned here as far as toxic fanbases go. I think a better measure of the fanbase is the overall demeanor and attitude those fans have outside of the internet. The best example I can think of (isn't metal) would be ICP and their Juggalos. I've met some really cool ones, when I was a teenager but overall as a general rule of thumb thats one of the most toxic fanbases out there. Also last thought, I cant say shit about people stanning over Tatiana or Brittany from Unleash the Archers... I literally have an entire playlist of female fronted metal bands because it just hits different some times and I think any stans that come out do so with good reason.... thats still not me giving them permission to be creepy lil fuckboi weirdos in the comment sections lmao
