GREAT video guys! I absolutely loved this line as a kid and have similar stories as you two. I remember vividly being in Toys R Us with no idea these were out and seeing the package. I was ecstatic and thought Super Powers were back! Looking back, obviously they’re not as good, but at the time, I was in superhero toy heaven. I still have the full line on card with some of the variants (or possibly mistakes lol). Awesome to see you cover them!

Your Batman figure is what I refer to as the Keaton head. Two versions of it were released late 89. The only difference being one is cast in black plastic , the other in flash color. The other two were released in early summer 89, they are somewhat taller with two different head sculpts both more comic book looking. The earlier release figures sold out immediately, the Keaton head was part of the restock in the fall. He was brought out in abundance and is the figure most people have and you will usually see the most on eBay.

Love the Riddler figure. I hope McFarlane does one for Super Powers eventually. Any Legion of Doom collection is incomplete without the Prince of Puzzlers. Do you think we'll eventually get more female characters in the line? Why does McFarlane do female characters in his other brands but not for Super Powers? His Wonder Woman is decent but we need more... Batgirl (Barbara Gordon)... Supergirl... Catwoman... Power Girl... the Cheetah (Priscilla Rich Legion of Doom version)... Giganta... come on Todd!
@JustBSingProductions9 ай бұрын
I sure hope so. It's a strange omission, for sure. Like you said, they're in his other lines, so it doesn't make sense not to include them here. Especially since the original Kenner wave also lacked female characters. Some were planned but never made.

Definitely Nah-stalgic. In '89 my parents took my brother and I to see the movie, and the theater handed out WB brochures that featured Bat-merch. The Toybiz movie related figures were featured, and we were both stoked to see them. We ended up finding and getting Batman, Robin (to replace the SP one that we buried and lost in the back yard), Joker, Riddler, and Mr. Freeze. Since we still had our other Super Powers figures, the others never appealed to us. Two-face is weirdly proportioned... coin aside, and those bare metal pins for joints were a turn off as a kid too. I've been tempted to go back and pick up a Superman and a Lex. I've got carded Riddler, Mr. Freeze, and Bob the Goon now.

People have no idea what it was like to be 10 years old when these came out. Kenner Super Powers was the greatest thing ever, but I was unable to collect them all and had even lost or broken some by this time, and had been distraught that they could not be found in stores anymore. Even though these sculpts were not as good, they were ESSENTIAL to fill the void and were none too soon! Though they don't hold up to Kenner, we also look at Kenner through rose colored glasses, because the action features made them awkward to pose and play with and structurally weakened them. I categorically loathe action features, so McFarlane figures are doing right by me in that regard. But something is always better than nothing, and that gets forgotten when rating and judging lines and individual figures.
@JustBSingProductions5 ай бұрын
Oh 100%. It was crazy going into the store, long before the Internet and preorders, not knowing these were even going to be a thing and seeing them sitting there on the shelf. It was exciting! They were (and still are) fun, even if not quite as good as what came before and after.
