Teddy Ruxpin was an endearing, yet creepy, robotic toy from the 1980's. After receiving a broken one, I decided to take it apart, upgrade it and make it live again! Now I can make it say whatever I want!!!! Almost....

I dunno why, but I for one find it so satisfying when I or others take old technology and upgrade the parts to make it work as good as or better than new. The new servo motors in this is what reminded me.

I was watching this trying to figure out how to animate some dolls I'm trying to make for a huge project next year so I just looked at the very toy that started it all for me mr. Theodore Ruxpin when you add the Alexa devices can you also customize their voices as well just wondering?

When I tried to take our original one (1985) apart to work on, the brown plastic was very brittle. Yes, I was careful as I’ve “tinkered” on fixing other stuff all my life. Oh well. I could’nt have done the ardino and code thing anyway.

You can use PC or Rasberry Pi and a camera to track your face, and then send instructions for the servos. You could even add two side voice comminication.

I'm probably going to sound like a noob saying this, but I wonder if there is a way to change how the mouth moves based upon the amplitude of sound going through. I'd imagine it would possibly make the mouth movements look more realistic.

I think amazon has put some limitations on that, you can't make it voice activated and you can do some features like music.

I just revived my untested teddy Tuxpin and grubby in the mail this morning and thats how I ended up here but I'm a simpleton when it comes to computers so watching this has made me so sad but lucky I have computer savvy friend *fist pumps* so it's not a complete fail, hopefully I can report back with to alive creatures
