Yeah it's crazy because Spider-Man's Black suit was a competition held by Marvel for aspiring writers. Randy Schuller came up with the black suit which then Marvel chose his idea. Jim Shooter (editor at the time) bought his idea in 1982 for $220 (over $500 today because ya know inflation). The black suit would then debut in the 1984 classic; Secret Wars.
