@@Kicksno1fanNot to mention wasting the Tank Gang who had a major supporting role in the original film (well, except Jacques who’s mostly useless) in helping Nemo escape from the tank and get back to his father while saving him from death at the hands of a child who’s neglectful when it comes to having pet fish. Only relegating them to an after credits scene, which I’m sure most people know now in the 7 years since Finding Dory’s release, but those who don’t sit around till after the credits wouldn’t have known about it and wonder why they didn’t make a comeback. And even then it’s just them getting “captured” after successfully escaping the dentist’s office and ending up in an even bigger tank at the Marine Life Institute. Also sucks that the deleted scenes had them having a larger role in them not only reuniting with Nemo and meeting Marlin, but helping them find Dory (and also rectifying my criticism of Jacques being mostly useless by having him more present and serving a functional role in the gang). Hopefully, we get a Disney+ series showing their escape from the Marine Life Institute and their reunion with Nemo.

@Dolphanatic5 жыл бұрын
As much as I tend to agree with a lot of the points you make in your reviews, I can't help but think you might be reaching a bit at times. For example, the whole issue surrounding Bo Peep's redesign had nothing to do with Captain Marvel or the 2016 Ghostbusters movie, but was more about whether or not it would cause inconsistencies with her characterization. A lot of times, when studios try to revamp characters to be what they consider "more relevant", it usually ends up being too drastic to the point of being almost unrecognizable, feeling forced and unnatural. Thankfully, I wouldn't really consider that to be the case here, but it's still a legitimate concern nonetheless, especially when it comes to characters people have grown up with for decades. Also, I think it's worth noting that a lot of the reports of Pixar supposedly having a bad track record with female directors are most likely being overblown. That's not to say I'm denying the possibility of potential misconduct, but Rashida Jones has already made it clear that her departure from Toy Story 4 was not related to anything like that. As she puts it, "We did not leave Pixar because of unwanted advances. That is untrue. We parted ways because of creative and, more importantly, philosophical differences." I hope that clears things up. Finally, I want to point out that even though they might not have proper owners, Bo Peep and the rest of the lost toys still understood the importance of making children happy. Not only does Woody emphasize this, but it's also essentially the main overarching theme of the Toy Story series. Hearing you say it's about how "toys can be happy without kids" misses the point and seems rather ironic to me, especially considering Toy Story 2, which you say is your favorite film in the series, is basically all about deconstructing the problems with that mentality. It's precisely why Woody ultimately decided against being preserved in a museum in that movie, and in Toy Story 4, it's why he prioritizes finding other toys a home over anything else. Understanding the impact you leave on others and living for more than just yourself has always been the true message of these films.

I like to think of Toy Story 3 as the perfect ending to the Andy Saga, whereas Toy Story 4 is the perfect ending to Woody’s individual character arc. I honestly had low expectations for TS4 so i was surprised that i actually enjoyed the movie. But the ending didn’t feel right and it felt anticlimactic imo. I mean, Woody leaving behind his super close friends who he’s shared so many life-threatening experiences with is obviously a big deal, but in the post credit scenes it just shows everyone all normal like nothing happened and i was thinking “oh. okay, woody’s gone i guess”. idk the ending just felt incomplete to me. But, considering Woody didnt have his voicebox anymore, Bonnie probably would have cared for him even less so i guess i understood him becoming a lost toy or whatever. I was a bit sad that the classic characters were so insignificant and just sat in an RV the whole time. That’s all i disliked, really. I laughed out loud a few times which was a plus. The stuffed animal duck and rabbit were absolutely HILARIOUS. I knew they were going to be from the trailer, but the key scene was still funny, even though they did replay that joke three times. it was still awesome. Also i agree, Buttercup’s one-liners cracked me up. Forky was a little amusing, but he annoyed me a little as well. I watched this in theaters and every single kid under the age of nine cracked up whenever Forky was on screen. It was cute. When Benson first appeared i jumped and kind of shrieked. I was in the second row and not prepared for that haha. I have to admit, i loved how eerie and creepy the dummies and gabby were at first. Also i LOVED gabby’s character. i really wasnt expecting that harmony kid to just reject gabby. I genuinely felt hurt for gabby (is that weird?) and i actually got emotional when she got handed off to the lost girl. but yeah those are just my opinions. I’ve never been a hardcore toy story fan but i liked the movie. I definitely agree with the second being the best. I forgot how much i liked Jessie. solid 8/10

I liked that the film felt smaller in scale. Most US animated features need to know that not every film has to be grand in scope or scale. I liked the more personal story and themes attached to Woody and the story overall. It was really touching. I do agree that while Buzz I don't think had a horrible arc, could have been more interesting. I liked that they took a No-Face approach to the villain where she technically wasn't a bad person. Plus, you didn't say this, so you probably don't know about it, or forgot to put it in the script, but they aren't doing anymore sequels. They made it clear after TS4, that it's all original films onward (heh). I found some of the sound in the video to sound muddled and the angry voice thing sounds like you both are straining. letterboxd.com/camseyeview/list/best-to-worst-animated-films-of-2019-wip/ Still, it's 4th place for me right now.

My main 2 problems with the movie are how they handled buzz and the other characters (especially Buzz, as he seems a lot dimmer), and how Bonnie treats Woody, as it backtracks a lot from 3
@Omnipotentmonkey5 жыл бұрын
agree with the review as a whole, but to a somewhat more negative degree, this really doesn't feel like half as strong a thematic conclusion as 3. which wouldn't be so much of a problem if it didn't essentially UNDO all of 3's thematic elements. it makes Bonnie's role in the series into an irritating red-herring, it doesn't do half as good a job at providing closure to these various character relationships as 3 did, and the conclusion is just far weaker as a whole, one of 3's greatest strengths is that all of it's cast felt very relevant in their send-off film, they all have roles to play in both the discussions of the film, and the action, Rex, Potato-Head (or Tortilla-Head), Barbie, and especially Buzz all feel like set-dressing in 4 by comparison. it's just a far weaker send-off. By all accounts it IS a good movie, but If I had to pick Toy Story 3 or 4 as an actual conclusion? I'd go with 3 without question. I also disagree about the oscar bet. Dragons 3 beats this hands-down both on spectacle and story, being a significantly stronger and more thematically relevant conclusion. only Snotlout really annoyed me to any degree,

The thing about Bonnie especially in her treatment with Woody, yes it's realistic that child can't exactly hold a promise and forgets things after a while, but that it felt a little contrived and weakened Toy Story 3's ending a fair chunk. I feel like a thing people overlook is that when you take into consideration all the various post Toy Story 3 shorts and tv specials and not just the films alone, it feels like a very Natural Evolution of her development and psyche. Because she was still bringing Woody along on her adventures, heck in the two television specials he's one of the few toys in both groups to go along and that says something when Jessie has gone long in only one of those Adventures and not both. Yes I get in a meta standpoint that it's kind of required that Woody and Buzz has two be along for the adventure because they are the main characters of the franchise, but still it says something that Bonnie still took Woody and did for a while anyways uphold her promise to Andy. And let's not forget that in the 4 Dolly did says that Bonnie is an Andy and she would naturally gravitate towards the toys she likes, if Woody was the only Sheriff toy in the group and there was no other options, I'm sure Bonnie would have played with Woody lot more. But the fact that Jessie is in the group as an alternative to Woody for who's going to be the sheriff in her play time, she would naturally gravitate towards her, in other words Jessie was Bonnie's Woody in the same way that Woody was Andy's Woody, if that makes sense. Just something to take into consideration when talking about Bonnie's treatment to Woody, it doesn't entirely justify the treatment of Woody in 4, but it does contextualize it.
