Sid is honestly not really a bad guy. While he is the polar opposite of Andy, he's just doing what he believes to be fun. Yes, in the eyes of the toys, this is seen as sick and sadistic, but in Sid's eyes, he's just having fun. He just loves to blow up toys. The same thing lays with Al. While he did steal Woody and commit a crime. He's simply trying to bring together the complete collection of the classic tv show, Woody's Roundup and know that another collector wants it to be part of his museum, and let's be honest here. If you had a collector's item(s) that were extremely rare and in high value. You'd wanna do anything to get it all and sell it all together to make a lot of money. Excluding the stealing part, cause I don't condone that. And wait a minute, hold the phone. The garbage man was Sid? Ok, even I didn't know that.
@pbsfundingaddict790 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. We’ve all come across kids in our neighborhood who liked to blow things up just like Sid. And Sid is definitely not pure evil, given he didn’t realize that toys were alive when breaking them, but since the movie is from the perspective of toys, he can be considered an antagonist, albeit one of the least evil. But for Al, I’d say he’s more towards the middle. Sure, he’s a jerk and didn’t try to hurt anyone, but stealing is against the law and he never seems to learn his lesson and believes the planet revolves around him. Ordinarily, being a collector is a hobby, but stealing a valuable from a yard sale when the host makes it clear that it’s not for sale is a no-no. So, I’d say that Al is way worse than Sid, despite his intentions to keep toys pristine and repair any damages. Both of what they did was not to be condoned, but it’s hard to argue that Sid might need help, given the ongoing counter argument over Sid’s parents.

Stinky Pete turned out to have redeemable traits as evidenced by an online interview after Toy Story 2 hit theaters where he expressed his gratitude over his new owner, Amy, despite all her makeup and tattooed Barbie dolls. Despite his evil demeanor, Stinky Pete cares about Woody, Jessie, Bullseye and other toys and only wanted what was best for them. While he meant well, he wanted to reside in the museum for his own desire and being free of kid ownership was his problem and only his problem. He is also the first Toy Story villain to be sympathized with because of his tragic backstory.
@Werten252 жыл бұрын
It’s crazy how much worse Stinky Pete and Lotso are compared to the rest of the villains.
@pbsfundingaddict7902 жыл бұрын
Well, Stinky Pete is actually less evil than Lotso. Stinky Pete only became a villain out of resentment and insecurity as kids never bothered to purchase him from a toy store and the rising popularity of space toys contributed to the termination of the Woody’s Roundup tv series. He was also distrustful of children due to Woody and Jessie’s respective situations with Andy and Emily, believing that children destroy, neglect and give away toys as they mature. He believed that The Konishi Toy Museum was the safest place for The Roundup Gang to live and only wanted what was best for the cowpokes and Bullseye. At least he redeemed himself in an online interview after Toy Story 2 hit theaters, expressing his gratitude over his new owner, Amy, despite all her makeup and tattooed Barbie dolls. Lotso simply became a villain out of trauma and entitlement with a dreadful theory that toys don’t deserve to have owners and their lives are solely bound for the trash. His excuse for harming and imprisoning innocent toys was petty and all over Daisy replacing him with another Lotso plush, due to Daisy accidentally losing him at a rest stop. Other toys had no control over the situation and weren’t involved with him getting replaced. This sinister plan makes Lotso the punching bag for turning Sunnyside Daycare into a prison and acting as the warden, snatching Big Baby away from Daisy, condemning Ken to death when he sides with Andy’s toys and reunites with Barbie and more importantly, nearly sending Andy’s toys to a terrible death at the landfill, even after Woody and Buzz sacrificed their lives to save his heartless pink fur from getting shredded. To me, Stinky Pete is like an overprotective parent or guardian fearing for their child’s safety or an unpopular person in society with little to no friends or has been single all his or her life. Lotso is like a school bully, whose behavior can never be corrected and ultimately results in getting expelled from school or even tossed into prison.

I couldn’t agree more. Lotso is a self-absorbed teddy bear who was stuck in the past and filled with violence all because of one kid. Sure, you can’t blame him for feeling disappointed about Daisy replacing him with another Lotso plush since she lost him at a rest stop and he felt that Big Baby and Chuckles still rightfully being under Daisy’s ownership was rubbing it in his face, but Lotso drowned in his heartbreak and had no right to snatch those two innocent toys from Daisy. Despite his backstory, Lotso is ultimately a Toy Story villain who was hard to sympathize with due to his unforgivable actions. It was also ridiculous how he transformed Sunnyside Daycare into a prison and acted as the warden. He issued wrongful punishments against toys for the most ridiculous reasons including attempts at departure from the campus, disagreeing with his views and helping other toys escape. Furthermore, he nearly sent Andy’s toys to a crummy death at the landfill even after Woody and Buzz sacrificed their lives to save his guilty pink pad of stuffing from getting shredded. If not for The Pizza Planet Aliens, that would’ve been the end of Andy’s toys and possibly the rest of the franchise. You could make a convincing argument that Lotso was much more dangerous and vile than Stinky Pete, amidst their mutual spitefulness. Stinky Pete only became a villain out of resentment and insecurity and wanted to be loved by children from behind glass, rather than being owned by just one kid. Lotso simply became a villain out of trauma and entitlement with a dreadful theory that toys don’t deserve to have owners and that their lives are solely bound for the trash. Bottom line, Lotso and only Lotso got replaced by Daisy, not Big Baby, not Chuckles, nor any of the Sunnyside toys and especially not even Andy’s toys. Other toys had no control over the situation and they didn’t care what Lotso had been through and it wasn’t even their fault. Daisy replaced Lotso because he was her favorite toy, but alas, he didn’t see it that way and he probably only cared about the attention she gave him, rather than her feelings. From the perspective of Woody, it’s okay to feel annoyed by other less-deserving toys who have owners, but the fact that Lotso mindlessly harmed innocent toys was not the solution to getting what he wants.

As far as I’m concerned, all of Andy’s toys (save for Bo Peep, Slinky, and Rex inherently) were more antagonistic to Woody than Sid in the 1st film, which is saying a lot. Woody himself wasn’t exactly anything but condescending, but then that accident set them off to be so hostile towards him, which wasn’t helped by all the attention they gave to Buzz in addition to the teasing they gave to Woody. We know that realistically, Sid would only be an antagonist if he were a bully to other kids, besides his sister. But Woody really couldn’t catch a break in the film even if he didn’t let his jealousy get the better of him.

@@pbsfundingaddict790 According to some references on the movies, it was implied that Potato Head was once Andy’s favorite toy before Woody came along. While it makes sense that he was very much jealous of the attention Woody was getting, it doesn’t make sense that he didn’t feel the same towards Buzz when he was Andy’s new favorite. Honestly we can understand the way Woody was feeling all because of how Andy was playing with Woody changed when Buzz arrived, he treated Woody like fodder for Buzz’s actions, and there’s no explaining that night he put Woody in the toy chest. As for Mr. Potato Head, he adores Buzz so much, and ruins the moment Bo Peep was trying to comfort Woody, pushing him to confront Buzz. And only he looked up at Woody complaining when no one else did, but then was shocked when Buzz got knocked out the window. What followed was him leading everyone on a mutiny against Woody, threatening him for if he ever returns without Buzz, and leaves Woody for dead after accusing him of “murdering” Buzz.

Tbh, I wasn't sure where Zurg would be vs his Star Command OR Lightyear versions, but placing him in the lower tier makes sense since like you said, he makes amends and ends up having father and son time. The guy from the Halloween special is creepy, but not the same creepy as it may sound when you mention a stalker or something. It's so scary how his lizard appears to venture around the hotel, goes into each room, and then steals toys from kids (and heck, maybe even antique collectors!) to bring back. I couldn't find any words to describe him other than "creepy", but y'know. Kinda sad to not see some other henchmen of Lotso's - like Twitch and Chunk - but I'm assuming it's because they had very minor roles and were mostly seen just talking evil, doing a simple task such as holding someone still, or watching from afar as stuff happens. No, Caleb had a valid reason to rank Sid higher than Gabby Gabby, compared to this. Sid Phillips is a disturbed kid who tears apart toys for horrific experiments. He will never stop and will go as far to even mutilate his innocent sister Hannah’s toys, including altering her Janie doll with a pterodactyl head. He even fed a Pizza Planet squeaky toy alien to his ugly dog, Scud, who also did everything he could to stop Woody and Buzz from escaping the Phillips residence. But you gotta look at things contextually. From Sid’s point of view, toys are not alive. Of course, he still holds on to this belief up until the end of the first Toy Story when Woody and the Mutant Toys formulate a plan that not only succeeded in scaring Sid, but also in rescuing Buzz from getting blown up on a dangerous handheld rocket. Little did Sid know that toys really are alive, even when breaking them and it’s really not appropriate to see him as the sadist that we think he is. One could argue that Sid might have had everyday home issues, leading to this incorrigible behavior. However, this is only a theory that his father might have been overly negligent and addicted to alcohol to nurture him. He might have also just been a kid with some behavior problems of his own that were impossible for anybody to work out. Sid might be the opposite of Andy, but we all have had friends or witnessed a couple of strangers just like Sid, don’t you think? Gabby Gabby is an isolated pull-string talking doll who yearned to have what Woody had: kid ownership. Much like Stinky Pete, Gabby Gabby’s backstory was extremely disheartening, but she wasn’t distrustful of kids, unlike Stinky Pete. She moved on to find another child to spend her life with, unlike Lotso. Not to mention that her friendship with her henchmen, The Bensons was authentic in contrast to Lotso’s hasty friendship with the Sunnyside toys. Although it was sad that she was ultimately rejected by Harmony, it was unbelievably satisfying when she finally got the love of a child that she wanted for God knows how long as a result of comforting a lost girl at a carnival. While her schemes of risking the safety of Forky to obtain Harmony’s attention were inexcusable, Gabby Gabby’s plans were far from sinister and she was mostly misunderstood. If the Mutant Toys were gonna be counted, I feel like Lotso's Gang (Sparks, Twitch, Stretch, Chunk, and Big Baby) should have been counted. Demo Mode Buzz Lightyear is also, arguably, a villain.
@pbsfundingaddict7902 жыл бұрын
Demo Mode Buzz is Andy’s Buzz, Lotso just reprogrammed him to make him his slave. Also, Lotso’s Gang wasn’t intentionally evil, they were unaware of Lotso’s true nature until Andy’s toys came along and Woody revealed the truth about the cold-hearted teddy bear. More importantly, Lotso lied to Big Baby, who was rightfully Daisy’s toy and Lotso snatched him away from her because he was replaced with another Lotso plush and Big Baby wasn’t replaced. Like Woody said “She replaced *YOU* ! And if you couldn’t have her, then no one could! You lied to Big Baby and you’ve been lying ever since!” This basically means that Lotso believes himself above other toys and if he doesn’t have an owner, then no toy deserves to have an owner. WickedBinge didn’t count The Mutant Toys, Lotso’s Gang (save for Ken) or Demo Mode Buzz Lightyear probably also because they didn’t have enough of an influence on the Toy Story franchise.
@judebaun9993 Жыл бұрын
@@pbsfundingaddict790correct, DEMO mode Buzz Lightyear is not a villain because Lotso just reprogrammed Andy’s Buzz to think he was an actual space ranger so he could convince Buzz that Lotso and the other daycare toys worked for Star Command and that Andy’s other toys were minions of the evil emperor Zurg so Buzz thought that he was doing the right thing being a hero locking up Zurg’s prisoners, he thought that he was serving the Galactic Alliance so DEMO mode Buzz only counts as an antagonist not a villain.

The Evil Emperor Zurg was just as deluded as Buzz and admittedly was a hard villain to defeat, even for Rex. Since Zurg was a minor antagonist in Toy Story 2, there’s really not a whole lot to say about him. Even after Rex accidentally knocked Zurg over with his tail inside the interior of an elevator at Al’s apartment, he wasn’t the kind of villain that needed to be punished. It was incredibly satisfying to see Zurg bond with his supposed son, Utility Belt Buzz by playing catch, although Utility Belt Buzz declined to continue the mission to rescue Woody from Al and Stinky Pete. Al McWhiggin is a big thief donning a ridiculous chicken costume who has no patience for anybody or anything that gets in his way. The first boundary he crossed was stealing Woody from the Davis’ yard sale after Andy’s mom made it abundantly clear that he wasn’t for sale. Additionally, his manners towards public businesses are atrocious such as when he hastily dialed and demanded the cleaner to fix Woody, even though he never agreed on a specific date or time he was available. This is also evidenced by him yelling at the airport staff to be careful with his Roundup Gang collection. Let’s also not gloss over how lazy Al is. He complains about driving to work on Saturdays, despite Al’s Toy Barn being located across the street and he could easily walk to there and back. Not to mention inadvertently falling asleep on the couch and dropping his bowl of Cheetos on the floor, which was a failed attempt for Woody to retrieve his severed arm. The only nice thing we can say about Al is that unlike Sid, Al hates when toys get broken and wants them in perfect condition to earn as much money as possible. Like Hamm says “Crime doesn’t pay.”, which is a lesson that Al will unfortunately never learn. Stinky Pete is a resentful prospector doll because kids never bothered to purchase him from the dime-store shelf that he spent years on and the rising popularity of space toys contributed to the termination of Woody’s Roundup, a children’s western tv series that he was once part of. He was also distrustful of children because of Andy accidentally ripping Woody’s right arm and Jessie getting donated by her former owner, Emily. He believed that children destroy, neglect and give away toys as they mature. When Woody decided to go back to Andy after Buzz lectured him, Stinky Pete snapped and locked both cowpokes and Bullseye in Al’s apartment, revealing his true colors. Since Al planned to sell the Roundup Gang to make a profit, Stinky Pete came to the conclusion that The Konishi Toy Museum in Tokyo, Japan was the safest place for the Roundup Gang to live to prevent further disappointment and destruction from children. From Stinky Pete’s perspective, if kids didn’t want him, they can’t have him and it’s too late for kids to reconsider their choices. His selfish attempts to stop Woody from going to back to Andy were almost always successful until at the airport when Buzz and the rest of Andy’s toys rescued Woody and sent Stinky Pete away in the backpack of a girl named Amy, much to the prospector’s horror. Every toy, with a good or bad personality deserves to be loved by a kid, even Gabby Gabby, despite her misguided nature. Barring Sid, Zurg & Al, these toy villains not only act as a foil to Woody, but all of Andy’s toys. They can also act as a darker or lighter reflection of the villains from the franchise. For example, if Buzz and the rest of Andy’s toys left Woody to be sold to the museum instead of saving him, then Woody would’ve ended up like Stinky Pete and never returned to Andy. If Jessie, Buzz and the rest of Andy’s toys never let go of the fact that Andy’s mom mistook them for trash and threw them away, they would’ve ended up becoming like Lotso. Not every toy in the franchise was lucky to have a kid like Andy or Bonnie. Like Woody says, a toy’s occupation is a child’s plaything. Sans Gabby Gabby, a toy’s purpose is a lesson that Stinky Pete, Lotso or any true toy villains will never learn.

Lotso simply became a villain out of trauma and entitlement with a dreadful theory that toys don’t deserve to have owners and that their lives are solely bound for the trash.

@pbsfundingaddict7902 жыл бұрын

Sorry but I disagree Sid isn't evil. He might be a jerk but he is not evil. Look Sid's life he lives next store to Andy with the seemingly perfect life, with the perfect house, friends plenty of new toys, a mother that takes care of him. What do we know of Sid's life? His house is in crappy condition, his yard is a mess all he has is a bunch of old toys, we don't see a parent around, he has a reputation. He obviously has a creative side with how he takes toys some of which are broken and makes them into other toys. Turning those toys into other toys is probably an outlet for him that helps him forget about his crappy home life for a little bit. The finally Sid has no idea that toys are alive, then Woody comes along and shows Sid that they are. What do you think that would do to a person knowing that for years they have been torturing living creatures and not knowing it. In the credits for one of movies if I remember correctly we see Sid happily working as a garbage man, so he has obviously become a productive member of society. So no Sid's not evil.
@pbsfundingaddict7902 жыл бұрын
@Kevin Green @thepayne78 I thought the same thing.

Consider that Al only committed that one single crime(bad drivingnot withstanding), stealing Woody, only did it as a last resort after seeing an opportunity, only did so after attempting to purchase him legally and offering a more than reasonable sum for him, and only because he had an incredible but very narrow opportunity for which obtaining said doll was a necessity. Ronald Tomkins on the other hand had been systematicly stealing from his customers for quite a while, and selling their possessions. This wasn't some spur of the moment thing, he literally trained his pet to steal from customers! He basically made selling stolen toys part of his motel's business model, which in my opinion is far worse than a single crime of opportunity and desperation.

I don't necessarily think Stinky Pete is evil at all. Sure he is the main antagonist of Toy Story 2 but he's more of a tragic villain than a complete monster unlike Lotso.
@pbsfundingaddict7902 жыл бұрын
I couldn’t agree with you more. Stinky Pete is evil, just not pure evil. And yes, he’s more of a tragic villain, unlike Lotso. He only became a villain out of resentment and insecurity, given kids never bothered to purchase him from a toy store and the rising popularity of space toys contributed to the termination of the Woody’s Roundup tv series. He was also distrustful of children because of Woody and Jessie’s respective situations with Andy and Emily, leading him to believe that all children destroy toys as they mature. He wanted to reside in the Konishi Toy Museum in Tokyo, Japan so badly and only wanted what was best for him, Woody, Jessie and Bullseye in order to prevent further disappointment from children. At least he redeemed himself in an online interview after Toy Story 2 hit theaters, claiming that he’s used to Amy’s makeup and was happy living with her after being rejected by children for years. I just can’t help but feel sorry for Stinky Pete and Gabby Gabby. To me, Stinky Pete is like an overprotective parent or guardian fearing for their child’s safety or an unpopular person in society with little to no friends or has remained single all his or her life. Lotso on the other hand, is similar to a school bully, whose behavior can never be corrected or forgiven.

Exactly. I’ve binged through all the movies and specials. I’ve even been on TV Tropes reading about the various characters. There’s a huge divide in villainy in Kelsey Grammer Prospector Doll and Lotso. In the Pixar Villains: Evil to Most Evil list, they are placed so far apart in terms of villainy.
@pbsfundingaddict7902 жыл бұрын
Stinky Pete and Lotso share similar character traits. They both seemed to be friendly and supportive at first but were eventually revealed to be villains. This is mainly due to a sense of feeling rejected or unloved, which were seen in both. To be fair, Stinky Pete is actually a tragic villain and was actually rejected and unloved, given kids refused to purchase him from the dime-store shelf that he spent God knows how long on. Lotso, on the other hand, wasn’t tragic at all because Daisy replacing him shows how much she loves him, yet he refused to accept that he was the only toy who got replaced and the only toy who became ownerless and took it out on both Andy’s toys and The Sunnyside Toys, wanting them to suffer and have a miserable life, even though they had no control over the situation.
@pbsfundingaddict7902 жыл бұрын
@@elibridgers2781 Yeah, I’ve noticed that in WickedBinge’s Pixar Villains Evil To Most Evil list. And I agree with the way they’re ranked so far apart. Stinky Pete only became a villain because he had never been loved or played with by a single kid and developed insecurities due to remaining inside the box he came in, persuading Woody to live with him and the rest of “The Roundup Gang” at a museum in Japan so he can feel safe. Lotso simply became a villain because his former owner, Daisy, replaced him after accidentally losing him at a rest stop and wanted other toys to not have owners and live a miserable life and almost killed Andy’s toys at the incinerator.
