Same with me regarding Toy Story 3. It came out nearly a month after I graduated HS. I lost out on seeing it in theaters, but I got to see it during a movie event at my college a few weeks after I started college. Toy Story 4 was good, but the saga really should've ended with Toy Story 3.

I think the most interesting aspect of this unmade film, is that it would’ve been the 2nd time a human in the Toy Story universe would discover the toys being alive and sentient (the first being Sid from the first film). Still the actual Toy Story 3 that eventually got released, was good enough for me and kinda book ended the entire arc for Woody, Buzz, and the gang. That’s why I never even thought about checking out the 4th installment.

Eisner sure is something, he deserves a lot of credit for the mega-run of the early '90s and I don't think he actually deserves much blame for the later problems but he does deserve a lot of blame for not recognizing, valuing both of the first two Toy Story movies and Finding Nemo.

I think the underlying issue with the period after the Disney renaissance was they were trying to make films like Dreamworks (for the preteen and teen demographic) while under the Disney name. Kids who grew up during the Disney renaissance were aging out of Disney demographic and didn't want to be associated with the mostly G rated namesake (while parents didn't see the new films as kid friendly). Pixar provided that "new brand" for the teens who didn't want to be associated with kids movies while also provided content that kids could also enjoy.

I don't think the Circle Seven version of Toy Story 3 would have been successful considering as described in the video Andy's toys would have acted out of character. It seems jarring to hear Woody and the other toys would have jumped Buzz and shipped him to the factory against his will. Also having the conflict resolved in a big battle also strayed away from the other two movies, which although featuring adventurous situations they did their best in avoiding violence as a resolution to the conflicts.

Like the thematic observation you did of the franchise at the end. What makes each Toy Story sequel so special compared to other animated franchises is how each one explores children’s relationships with toys and pushes the characters forward. The Circle 7 animation Toy Story 3 sounds like a fun adventure, but it doesn’t really do anything to evolve the characters or explore anything significant about our relationship with toys. Here’s hoping Toy Story 5 continues the trend and isn’t just some silly side adventure.

Great video as always Bullets! I like this script but one of the biggest issues I have is that they send the main villain to Sid's house. Not only is it needlessly cruel and completely out of character for Woody and friends, to send a toy somewhere where he will be tortured (if that wasn't the case, why send him to Sid's house?) but it also ignores the ending of the first movie and implies Sid didn't learn his lesson and is still torturing toys.

The only part I think would've been cool would've been Dax Blaster as a villain, because he seems like the reverse of what Stinky Pete was in Toy Story 2. Whereas Pete was bitter that he and Wild West themed toys got replaced by science fiction "space toys" like Buzz Lightyear, Dax would've been the new toy that everyone wanted, and he'd be eager to push Buzz out of the spotlight. That, and the factory creator knowing that the toys were alive would've been a cool touch.

Disneys style of movies are more geared towards money and merchandise than actually making a movie. Sometimes, it's the opposite, just to make the movie fail (like strange world for example) Pixars style is about making stories for both the kids and adults watching their films by mostly keeping it geared towards a more general audience.

This is their universe outside of Pixar's & things may have altered if Toy Story may have written differently if Pixar didn't make it & circle 7 did in an altered universe format. So Sid is possibly still a bad guy in circle 7's format while Pixar's format Sid is scared helpless without hind clue his toys are alive. Pixar knows circle 7's Toy Story 3 doesn't make any sense. And that's why it never happened. Now that toy story 5 is in production they're taking old notes from toy story 3 by circle 7's playbook & reusing them for The next movie. Guess can't let those armies of buzz lightyears go to waste can you Pixar? No no. Not today. Edit.

Also it sounds very similar to what happened in Madagascar 3's ending where the French detective FBI animal captives get sent to Madagascar packed in shipping crates. Yes sounds very familiar.

Maybe Sid would destroy his toys because he knows they are alive and is afraid of them? Maybe he didn't learn Woody's lesson right? Maybe he wants to kill the toys before they kill him? Maybe his phobia of toys didn't help him at all but made him as bad as those X-Men characters who feared mutants so much that they want to kill them all?

I honestly would've liked to have seen this as the third movie and the 4th film be the plot of the actual Toy Story 3 as the bookend for the toys' lives with Andy.

Ok, this was interesting. I'm interested by the plot of this movie and knowing what Toy Story 3 could've been. But I see why it was scrapped; a movie without the collaboration of both Disney AND Pixar just wouldn't be right. And to be honest, the Toy Story 3 we got had a better message anyway. Still though, I noticed some elements from the film that (while I know weren't intentional) still made it into the final film, and may potentially be brought in future films i.e. The army of Buzz clones.

While not from Toy Story 3, Sox from Lightyear is also very similar to Daxx Blastar's Comet, who's also a cat. I think Pixar has seen Circle 7's ideas but they refuse to confess that they took inspiration due to their beef.

Walt Disney originally planned to do an anthology film centered around the works of Hans Christian Anderson. It would have included early versions of The Little Mermaid and The Ice Queen (which would later become Frozen). It would also have been Disney's first live action/animation hybrid.

Who would’ve thought that we could’ve had a solid story? But, would the quality of the animation be the same? If they had moved forward, could we tell the difference? It is truly annoying to hear how Disney wants to have absolute, or near total control over a product

Cant lie im glad Disney didn't just go over Pixar's head and create there own sequels, but i also cant lie that sounds like an awesome story for a toy story movie, sounds way better then what the story for toy story 4 was, maybe elements of this could be used for toy story 5, Sounds better then toys vs technology anyway

Nice video Bullets & Blockbusters. I have heard about Circle Seven Animation and how Disney tried to make direct-to-video sequels to Pixar films without their involvement. Thankfully, that never happened. But the story behind it is fascinating as you look at the concept arts and story ideas for their canceled projects. Personally, I would have loved to see these films get made. But I'm glad that Pixar was able to take back control of their films. Speaking about Pixar, can you do a What Could Have Been video about their canceled film "Newt"? It was about a male and a female blue-footed newt who were forced together by science to save their endangered species, but they both didn't like each other. It got canceled because its plot was too similar to Blue Sky Studios' animated film "Rio" (2011). Its production got replaced with Inside Out (2015).

1:01 Important to note is that the executive at Disney Animation intentionally caused Treasure Planet to flop at the box office to spite Jeff Katzenberg, who had been eager to make the movie for almost a decade He was promised the movie could be made once he completed involvement with any additional movies they wanted him to do until eventually allowing him to move ahead His treatment was so bad (especially after realizing they would allow the creation of Treasure Planet, but said nothing about marketing it fairly), he left Disney and created DreamWorks

While I am glad that we got the proper Pixar version of Toy Story 3, the planned Circle 7 version always fascinated me as a curiosity item. It's one of those films that if I could transport into an alternate universe a la Sliders, I would want to go to an alternate universe where Pixar and Disney went their separate ways and Circle 7 got to release their version, just to watch it out of blind and possibly morbid curiosity. For me, Circle 7 Toy Story 3 is up there with Tim Burton's Superman Lives and Colin Trevorrow's Star Wars Episode IX: The Duel of the Fates (that would have properly followed up The Last Jedi) as alternate versions of films/cancelled films that I would like to visit the alternate universe where they actually got made and came out.
