Toy-Ventures: Kenner Bionic Bigfoot

Had most of these, and sold Bigfoot for like 50 cents at a yard sale. Found my old Maskatron a couple of years back, but the clothes and rubber bits had all dry rotted in my parents’ attic. I console myself with the fact that I still have ALL of my original Star Wars toys!

Favorite figure? Maskatron. Unfortunately, I no longer have my Maskatron. But it went to a good home. The home of Six Million Dollar Man writer (and co-creator of Twin Peaks) Mark Frost. About a decade ago I became friends with Mark through social media and when I happened to be in LA on business travel, I was able to meet with Mark for lunch. I knew that his first job was on the show and I also knew that he wrote the episode Return of the Robot Maker, which inspired the toy. So I made sure to pack my toy and when we met IRL. I gave him the figure. He never had one! He was very excited and especially at being able to take it home and play with it with his young son. I miss that figure but happy that Mark FINALLY got the toy that he inspired. It was a good day.

I had all of these figures as a kid, I even had Oscar's office playset. Played with them for hours. Great memories.

I was born in Jan. of 1971 so I'm just a little bit older than you Brian and I too got Bigfoot for Christmas in 1978. That's where our similarities about this figure end because he is the one 6 Million Dollar Man figure that hit me the hardest when it comes to fond memories. I got Bigfoot that year while my brother got Steve Austin. I was a huge fan of the character as well as the actual cryptid so the figure was among my favorites. A year or so later my Mom bought me another figure by Kenner that we found at a discount outlet named simply "The Store" in Kulpsville, PA. That figure was the Kenner Alien. The Alien and Bigfoot had so many brutal knock-down, drag-out fights that they are now a huge part of my most fondest of memories. Thanks for this video. It brought back many of those memories and a few others that I had forgotten about.

I am certainly "of a certain age", and The Six Million Dollar Man was certainly a part of my childhood and still is in my middle age/second childhood. I still have many of my old Bionic toys (Bigfoot included), and thanks to Ebay I now have a bunch more. My most recent addition is that super desk for the O.S.I. Headquarters play set. It still works.

I have to agree that Maskatron is my favorite, but Bionic Bigfoot comes in a pretty close second. Sure, the only reason my parents got him was because it was a clearance item, but the large Bigfoot figure was the kind of toy my little brother and I coveted, because it could do double duty as a Kaiju-sized menace for our three and three quarter inch scale figures, not entirely unlike the giant Frankenstein creatures from War of the Gargantuas. Many a Time Traveler figure was devoured or stomped under foot by Bionic Bigfoot.

This was among my favorite shows as a kid. My family growing up was relatively poor which meant, we were lucky if we got one thing from out wish list. Santa must have been doing well that year because, after going through the Christmas catalog and writing down a bunch of insane desires, I was shocked and, thrilled to find that, Santa had brought me a Steve Austin, Bionic Bigfoot, Venus Space probe and, a Shogun Godzilla. It was an epic Christmas indeed. I wish I still had that space probe!!!!

That was a great video. I had no idea Bigfoot was reused for Chewbacca. The 6MDM accessories were my favorite part of the toy line. He had the replacement arms, legs, Oscar's briefcase, the spaceship, the Mission to Mars outfit and that wild helmet that came with the 6MDM radio.

I had all the six million dollar man toys except big foot, all my life I been a wrestling fan and Andre the gaint played Bigfoot that was big for me, I'm 56 years old and I have good memories of the 79s toys, I still Collect 12" gi joes, some shogun Warriors , mainly mazinga z, DC and marvel figures,some mego and remco stuff and more, my grandson comes to visit me and we have a blast.

My favourite was Steve (I only had Steve; he came with the orange I-beam, not the engine block). I liked testing his bionic strength by having him hang by his hand from the clothesline and sending him to the back of the yard and back. Nice grip!

I never had the Big Foot Action figure. I don't even think it was available here in the UK. Maskatron was, and still is my favourite figure by Kenner. I managed to pick up three copies of the Toy-Ventures magaizine here, finally. Great stuff. I can't wait for more issues.

Thanks for doing this video and showcasing one of my favourite toys. The Figure is 14 inches tall as Steve is 13 inches tall. There are two boxed versions. The less scarce is the version in this video which is the Bionic grip Steve. The more rare is the Bionic Bigfoot with the Biosonic, 3rd Version, of the Six Million Dollar man figure. Again thanks for highlighting my favourite toy line.

The show was one of my top favorites as a kid. Constant play with friends and on my own with the action figures. My Bigfoot and Maskatron are still safely in storage. The Bigfoot lacked the features that I normally preferred as a kid, like articulation, but I liked the sculpting and the stiff arms and legs made sense to my kid brain for Bigfoot.

It's got a totally different feel from the other figures. The rest of the line screams "how much will our budget let us pack in?" while Bigfoot seems to say Minimum Viable Product, like they *had* to make it to satisfy a contractual agreement or make sure they capitalized on the character while they still could. It's unfortunate, but I'm hard-pressed to think of other features they could have put in....

I had a ton of 6 million dollar man stuff when I was a kid, including the Bigfoot. I never knew about the Venus probe, though; I ended up cobbling up my own using pieces from the spaceship and Maskatron.

I was never really a big fan of larger figures...too difficult to smuggle out of the house, so this line passed me by in the 70s, though I was always fascinated by it. I remember seeing the mobile repair bay and a few figures as a teenager at a school sale...the prices seemed absurdly high at the time, but nowadays would be a complete steal. Minor regret, as I would never have the space to keep them.

I think the lack of limb and head articulation are what make this figure somewhat dull. At least Chewie had a gun you could get some kind of play-ability out of. You can only flip that damn panel open so many times before it loses its charm. My favorite bionic figure was a late-in-the-game Steve Austin, decked out in jeans and a white sport shirt, who had a karate chop action feature with his right arm, similar to Big Jim. He came complete with a stack of (plastic) wooden boards that you could endlessly make Steve chop, then reassemble them so he could do it all over again. Bricks, too, I think! Man, those were the days of endless imagination. Thanks for a great vid!!

Screamingmad Toys has 2 six million dollar man figures. Ultra-realistic head sculpts and costumes (a running suit version and a safari outfit). Small runs and high prices for each (the running suit version isn't even available on ebay last I checked).

Loved these episodes above all the others, even over the Maskatron one (though had that resembled the toy, it probably would've won out). Yeah, wonderful tropes; good memories. Makes me realize all the tropes we took for granted now no longer around: bigfoot, quciksand, someone in a gorilla suit and so many more that every series, comedy or drama, realistic or fantastic. Last remnants of it were the McGyver episode and Harry and the Hendersons. My other favorites inspired by the bigfoot craze were "Bigfoot and Wildboy", Sasquatch the Marvel Canadian superhero and. We were sure any week Bixby's Hulk was gonna face him. What a shame, now that would've been a rating winner for sure.

My 50th birthday today. My favourite tv show as a kid was the Six Million Dollar man. I had Steve Austin only so he would fight my Action men. I remember having a dress up costume. I didn’t wear the mask but wore out the red jump suit. 🤣

I actually preferred playing with Bigfoot over Maskatron. The eject switches on Maskatron's limbs were always a bit too sensitive for child me and his arms and attachments would always pop off before I wanted him too. Meanwhile, Bigfoot was big and tough so I could pretend some serious fighting between him and Steve Austin!

Yeah, Big foot was not my favorite figure, but he was necessary if you wanted a good fight. I liked my Steve Austin figure, but my real favorite was the Bionic woman figure. For some reason I always loved female super hero's more. These are great to have as they were a big part of my childhood. Both TV show's were super popular and I was enthralled with the concept of Bionics. Thanks for this. It was great and brought back some wonderful memories. FANTASTIC review as usual.

Cool video. I only had Steve, Jamie and the Death Probe as a kid. No Bigfoot for me. I did have that 12" Chewbacca however. For years he laid in the toy box at Granny's house with his right leg broken off. I think the Death Probe was probably my favorite though. I used it with all of my other toys in one way or another. Star Wars, G.I. Joe even He-Man eventually fought it.

Absolutely loved the Six Million Dollar Man toy range, also being around at the time, mainly for the Steve Austin figure, Maskatron (of course!) and oddly Oscar Goldman for his exploding briefcase! My only regret is that I never saw any trace of Bionic Bigfoot here in the UK, as after watching this I would have loved to have him. My best memory of the line as a child was finding by accident in my Mum's wardrobe before Christmas the Bionic Repair Station and Oscar Goldman tucked away at the back! Great times indeed... and a brilliant video once again, thank you. Finally, I can't wait to see your follow - up about the Venus "Death-Probe"; My friend and I re-watched it on video a few years ago, absolutely brilliant when it first appears! Fabulous!

I don't even remember this Bigfoot. I only ever had Maskatron and I believe I purchased him on clearance at KB Toys after the two shows had been cancelled and Kenner was full on Star Wars. Maskatron was always GI Joe's nemesis!

Yes. We all ran and move in " slo mo " Befor d metrix . And the sound effect . As an adult it now sound like a forklift in passion . I remember the first Big Foot episode..how many of us flinch when he ripped BF arm off .Somebody please correct me but i believe the hot Ms S Powers ( Heart To Heart ) was in this episode ?? .Trusting memory befor google . Lol . The alliens moved very fast using a special belt.Steve was able to see the movement with his B eye. Later one character use the said belt to run with Steve . I was at the tail end of that watching reruns but still soon enough to appreciate Lee Majors, loved his cameo in Scrooged. :D Show holds up pretty good imo, started watching some episodes again to refresh my memory. I definitely think it inspired a lot of later cyborg films through the 80s and 90s especially in rentals of VHS movies. Probably the most unique sasquatch character ever conceived and Andre and Ted playing him is just gravy. Was looking up Cassidy because of his Star Trek work, sad to see how soon he passed away, all forms of giantism is really bad for your health when you look at each form of it. Tremendously cool toyline, don't often wish I was born sooner but Kenner made some toy gold with that one. Oh yeah that is a pricey item, he seems unrealistic for my budget. ;) Interesting to hear about the wookie connection, been watching TP's videos about fixing those big figures. I think both reasons cited for your lukewarm nostalgia for that toy are on the nose. As a design it's quite plain, likely suffering feature cutbacks for it's scale and lateness unfortunately.

I never had this figure as a child although I wanted it. Today I have two! But, I did have (and still do) the Shogun Warriors Godzilla. This was my favorite toy. It always got the most reaction from people. The latest WWE "Andre The Giant" bigfoot looks good and I ordered one. The others, however, I feel fell short of being either imposing or menacing enough. That's one thing about the seventies, toys were bold and menacing even if not completely accurate. And, of course, I had the Star Wars toys. There was absolutely nothing like the feeling of opening them for Christmas.

I was supposed to have the big foot f'or a Christmas gift probably xmas 78 I remember I saw it in a bag.But when xmas morning came ni signs of big foot all I had was hockey equipment and a Montreal Canadian hockey jersey for hockey school. My mum later revealed to me that she went back to the store to get a refund so she could buy my hockey equipment. As someone who did not grow up in the 1970's, and instead the late 80's early 90's I can tell you about a similar incident involving a toyline that had a desirable figure, that I don't have fond memories of. Mine was 1992's Krang's Android Body from the Ninja Turtles line. Such a core character and I so wanted to have a figure inside the body as seen every day on the cartoon but, by the time he saw release I just didn't care much for him. It was probably the least played with toy I had from Ninja Turtles and despite me loving him now, I don't have that nostalgic tie to it as I do maybe Muckman or Mutagen Man from that same toyline. My head like yours was into other things by 1992-1993 such as Batman in his many incarnations, X-Men, Power Rangers, and the Crash Dummies.

I loved my Steve Austin figure but I always kept him in the "Mission to Mars" space suit, because I loved the NASA part of the series and was always a space nut. But I also really liked the Oscar Goldman figure for some reason. The exploding briefcase was awesome! Loves Maskatron too...actually the whole line was one of my favorites and I think the only toys from that line I did not have was the Death Probe and Big Foot. By the way...have you thought of doing a video on the Steve Scout and JJ Armes toy lines. Both were really cool.

Now that I think about it, I wonder if Hasbro got the idea for the Intruders from this. Sure, they aren't robots but there are a few other similarities. Add in the fact Mike Powers is Hasbro's version of The Six Million Dollar Man.

I don’t know if you’ve ever seen the duck dogers cartoon series . It essentially a buck rogers parody series . But there do a episode that is as close to you may ever get to buck rogers meets the six million dollar man . And big foot is in it . I forget the name of the episode. But I’m sure you’ll know when you see it as it basically starts if Daffy Duck doing Steve Austin’s origin .

For me it was Steve Austin 1.0, then it would be Maskatron. I wanted a Bionic Woman figure, but in the 70's boys didn't play with female figures. Well I fixed that long ago and have 3 Bionic Woman figures to go with the rest of The Six Million Dollar Man figures.
