I love this Toyah and Robert. Lost my dad in 2019 at 97 years + 2 months; he was a B-24 pilot in the Pacific and was in the first occupation troops in Japan. I miss him everyday. I had this same thought after the passing of the Queen - we should alway honor the members of the Greatest Generation regardless of what one thinks about royals and royalty in general. Princess Elizabeth could've fled to Canada - but she didn't. She stayed in Britain, learned to be a mechanic, could tear down and rebuild engines of cars, trucks and ambulances. She did her part and served until Japan surrendered. Thank you Toyah and Robert for doing this in this way - Toyah holding up the notes and pictures made me tear up.

Fabulous. Mr. Fripp is for me the one performer I have seen in live performances more than any other musician. 12 separate times, as in King Crimson, League of Gentlemen, League of Crafty Guitarists and his solo soundscape improvisations. When Robert played his Frippertronics set at Toad's Place in New Haven, CT in 1979, it was the only time in the history of that bar (there are actually 2 bars at Toad's Place) that they shut off the drinks during his performance and lecture. Trust me, Brian Phelps the owner and his partner would not consciously shut down their main source of revenue for anybody. They did for Robert. It was an evening I will never forget. Thank you Robert Fripp and Toyah Willcox for your stellar careers and inspiration.

Just a little tidbit regarding that song... legend has it that Heroes was an homage to the two guys in the German band NEU! who had a song called Hero on their first album which was recorded in 1971 and came out in 1972. Both Klaus Dinger and Michael Rother were invited to play on Bowie's song Heroes when it was recorded in Berlin and the song has actually a NEU! vibe about it if you are familiar with what they did on their two albums NEU! and Neu!2. Unfortunately due to miscommunication of managements they missed out on taking part on that session in Berlin or a lot more people would have been aware of Dinger and Rother after Heroes came out (both of whom were actually also founding member of Kraftwerk and in the first lineup together with Florian Schneider who actually just died a week ago....).

I notice his Les Paul has 3 pickups. I think one may be a Sustainiac pickup. I'm not sure but back when he recorded it originally I think he used an EBow sustainer. When I play this song I use my EBow.

Sorry to respond so late, but our robot overlords on KZbin just showed this to me today. Why? Who knows..... But, down to business. This performance: just shattering. Always one of my favorite R.Fripp deals, but Ms.Toyah and the pictures just made it crushing! I have had a hard time listening to this song, associating with a long term relationship that ended in ruins...but now? a whole new prospective! Thank you both for your lovely work. Wishing you well. PS: Mr Fripp: whenever anyone suggests that my guitar playing reminds them of you. I can scarcely contain myself. You have been an inspiration to me for a very long time.

I still listen to the Sunday All Over the World album a lot. Love you, Toyah. (Don't you think Robert looks like his uncle?)

Toyah, great job !!!! Robert .......... well ......... I love you man !!! You showed me how humble you are in 1969 at the Whiskey a go go. All the band members walked by me & ignored me. You .... grabbed my hand with both of your hands & shook mine with real gratitude. It forever changed how I would treat those that complimented my playing. I'm grateful for the life lesson.

Ok, so this is mind-blowingly good on so many levels... Didn't know Toyah and Fripp were married Didn't know Toyah still looked and sounded so amazing Didn't realise the guitar sound on Bowie's Heroes was actually Fripp's Brilliant idea doing these vids Brilliant tribute to their heroic relatives on VE 75 day Nice Kitchen too...

Man.... I remember the Crafty Guitars playing in my home town and me and friends were discussing that we'd just read that the two of you had got together, and we were all thinking "what on earth".... That's a good 30 years ago. Just goes to show.... You are the cutest couple.

I lost my dad two years ago at the age of 93. He landed at Omaha Beach, fought across France, liberated Paris, fought in the Battle of the Bulge, liberated a slave labor camp, fought through Germany right up to Germany’s surrender. And then was scheduled for the forces to invade Japan (informed by the brass that losses of American troops would likely be as high as 90%). But the troop ship was recalled when it was announced Japan had surrendered. He saw a buddy turned into hamburger on the other side of a fox hole, by a German artillery shell that defeated fox hole entrenchment by exploding ten feet in the air. He had a bullet cut through the side of his helmet but miss his head. He was shot two other times but was patched up and sent back to his unit. He earned five purple hearts plus a bronze star, and a French honorary knighthood that was the highest honor for a non Frenchman. When he returned to the states after the war, he visited New York City with a buddy he had served with in the 30th Infantry Division. They saw two girls, and my dad told his buddy which one he liked. He didn’t realize she was only seventeen, so he needed her mother’s permission to date her. She became my mom a decade later. Rest in peace dear dad. I miss you.

@Paul deTorch Respect to your dad too. A footnote perhaps: after the war, upon obtaining a PhD in Chemistry, my dad went to work at Dow Chemical, but a decade later took a position as research and development director with a Swiss-German Chemical company (Ciba-Geigy). He would periodically fly to Basel for meetings. Many of his colleagues there were former German soldiers who (as dad put it) might very well have been shooting at each other. Some of them became close friends and when they came to the states for meetings, he would invite them to our house (in the NYC suburbs) for dinner, just as they would do the same when he flew over there. I remember them as good people. It is the governments that go to war. The men do what they are told to serve their country with honor. Back in the late 70’s my sister married a German man and he became part of the family. His parents came for visits and stayed at my parents’ house. I married a Japanese woman twenty-five years ago. Dad was constantly telling anyone within earshot how she was like a daughter to him. It is good that enemies become friends once the reasons for the wars are extinguished. Live long and prosper sir. 🖖🏼

Their giving of themselves so effortlessly is priceless, even for just 3 minutes on this fine day. Toyah and Robert inspire me as I am sure all of us with providing that extra spark in life during Covid and continuing even now. I know it motivated me to try and do the same for others and still does. They are hero's of our day, thank you both dearly!
