What a great version of this song. It is a real treat to hear Robert Fripp performing his wonderful guitar part again. His guitar playing was such an important contribution to the original recording 40 years ago. A fitting tribute to David Bowie.

david bowie/jones,it is very possible to not love 'bowie ! ' as his fans respectfully refer to him. apart from a few moments and songs,he represented the triumph of style over content,in keeping with the spirit of his 'heroes' andy warhol and lou reed, jakko i once saw denouncing early king crimson as 'hippy' though he fronted a good tribute act to them, also , king crimson, after the early days ,that i saw ,became a good jazz rock techno enterprise once the magic of pete sinfield went with all shades of meaning and esotericicm too.

Except this is a Fripp and Eno song. Eno wrote the music and did the lyrics with Bowie, but they couldn't figure out the guitar line, so they called Fripp in NY and shipped him to Berlin where he came out with this brilliant, unforgettable, unusual vibratto, the sound that makes this song be what it is.

Goodness! There have been times over the years when I have felt like the only fan of KC. Especially when it cam to some of their jazz style music. My ex sort of tolerated them but was not a huge fan, but she came to one of their RAH gigs many years ago, and loved it. No question at all regards Bowie. One of my all time favourite performances was when he joined Dave Gilmour (also at the RAH) to sing Roger Water's (and Rick Wright's) bit on Comfortable Numb. By heck he took an already rock classic to a whole other level.
