I think it's a testament to the TMNT franchise's longevity (despite what everyone assumed by 93) that, in the year of our Lord 2022, there are *three* Ninja Turtles movies either released or being developed simultaneously, all in different canons (the Rise movie dropped last month, Mutant Mayhem, and something about rebooting the original movie universe I don't remember)...but its slow down period can't have been helped by a little show called Power Rangers emerging from Japan

"Tarzan Boy" really is a bizarrely immaculate stone-cold classic. I'm so glad we got the follow-up as to what the song actually is. When it played during the trailer earlier in the video, I popped open a tab to try to look it up, but how do you look that up? "Eighties song, hook = woahh woahh woahh woahh oahh"?

@@sara00zer0 Oh definitely... it's completely nonsensical for a Ninja Turtles movie in 1993, especially since Eighties one-hit wonders were seen as *terminally* uncool in the middle of the Grunge/Gangsta Rap era, but that's kinda what makes it such an awesome inclusion... But yeah, the studio would have been much better served to get Public Enemy or Cypress Hill to record some gag track about time-travelling samurais. TMNT 3 is memorable for me, as it was the very first time I had my suspension of disbelief broken, and realized everyone was just acting. During a scene in the village(maybe around the house fire?), you can see the grandfather in the center background, with a bunch of other villagers around. As other people are speaking in the scene(Raphael, Mitsu, Yoshi), you can see him mouthing the dialogue along with them. If I had to guess, I would say he was an older actor, and was just trying to keep up with where they were in the script. It hit theaters on my 8'th birthday, and I was a turtle-maniac at the time, so of course I begged to go to the first showing. I had liked the look of the grandfather, and kept on staring at him when he was on screen. Then it got to that scene, and the movie magic just kind of fell apart for me. For the rest of the film I just sat and thought about why he was mouthing everyone else's words.

This movie came out shortly before I was to turn 10 years old. I had been a huge Turtles fan ( and had seen both the first two movies in the theater. By the time this one came out, a number of factors led to not seeing this one in the theaters. 1) It was a weird period, between the 2nd and this movie, where I was starting to move on from Turtles. I can't recall for sure if there was any one franchise that started diverting my attention. The movie came out right before Power Rangers, which would go on to become my next huge obsession. If it was anything, maybe it was Batman? Returns had come out the year before, as well as TAS. So I was definitely big into Batman as well. 2) The other factor is the toy factor. I say this as someone that owned my fair share of TMNT action figures and accessories up until that point. I won't try to suggest I was unaware of how toys factored into the overall marketing and merchandising of these types of franchises. But I think at that point, I saw the trailer and previews for this movie. I think the samurai aesthetic had me come to the conclusion that this was solely chosen to ultimately sell action figures. For whatever reason, it rubbed me the wrong way. Looking back, I realize it was definitely unfair to hold that against the movie and franchise, when others had been and were doing the same things. But like I said, Power Rangers became my next obsession and it was egregiously guilty on that front. I still have yet to see this movie in it's entirety. I've watched the first two more times than I can count. I'm sure one day, I'll sit down and give it an honest chance and will probably find it entertaining

I always thought it would have been better if Lord Norinaga had been Lord Hamoto and Mitsu an Oroku--giving the "villain" the name of Splinter's master and giving Mitsu the name of Shredder--with the union of her and the prince creating the original Foot Clan before it was corrupted (remember that both Hamato Yoshi and Oroku Saki were members of the Foot Clan). I also wanted to see Usagi Yojimbo show up somehow.

that would have been awesome, hell maybe have Mitsu don the Shredder's armor and when the turtles see her wearing it they rightfully freak out.

I despaired that i would be searching for it over the next several hours, that song. _That song!_ That song that haunted me till I finally had forgotten about it. Until you reminded me of it... and then you said who made it and the title of it and all was forgiven and a massive weight came off my shoulders. Growing up as a huge fan of the Turtles, I remember being quite confused when I was given one of the movie toys as a birthday present, as it was a regular human riding on a practically unarticulated horse. Young me was like "WHERE'S THE TURTLE??" (That same birthday I also got a Weirdwolf Headmaster from Transformers, so needless to say, the horse probably got played once, haha)

Since it was brought up twice in this video... I expect a video on Short Circuit soon! :D I miss Johnny Five. :( Also there is a TMNT cartoon episode where a robot comes back from the future to visit the 1990's and meets up with the turtles and seems a lot like Johnny Five. I wonder if they got inspiration from the Short Circuit movies or something.

@lutherheggs4512 жыл бұрын
Because the suits are awful, the turtles being nightmare fuel with their face movements, Splinter is awful, the hilariously bad FX like the "villain" falling off of a cliff. There was nothing Turtles about it other than the Turtles. The stuff with Casey Jones and the Japanese guys were god awful. Besides the dialog being written as if someone was dropped on their head before they wrote the script. Then there is for whatever reason people's need to continually call it Turtles in Time when it was never EVER actually referred to as that. That was never even added to it until the bargain basement blu-ray release.
@thetoythief89402 жыл бұрын
@@lutherheggs451 You know whats funny you barely notice the suit issues and for me I think the second movie has worse suits and story considering the fact it wasn't finished you lead up to a awesome moment to get a dance battle we didn't need at all at least the 3rd movie had a story and character development that was used for many more years

@@lutherheggs451 The suits were bad, yes, but the story was decent enough and it holds up a lot better than Secret of the Ooze. So many things in the second movie make my head hurt when watching it as an adult. People wouldn't be moaning about TMNT III being bad if it looked as good as TMNT II did.

I totally agree with Eastman. The second film is infuriating, while this one feels more like a noble failure. The ambition of the story--which reflected the more outlandish stories of the original Mirage Comics run--wasn't matched with an adequate budget, but at least they didn't promise us a Secret of the Ooze and then fail to deliver the Utroms implied by such a title.

@@Merknilash I agree. The first is a legit great film, but the second was more in line with the TMNT cartoon. It was the prefect blend of the gritty realism from the original and the fun outrageousness of the animated series. Deff played the secret of the ooze the most.

Great video, and cool to see all of the connections that was kind of planned for this movie. A goofy thing I noticed that just always seemed weird to me about this movie. Kenshin and April swap places, and each is technically wearing what the other was wearing when the swapped places. How does Kenshin fit into April's clothes, and wouldn't he be wearing everything she was wearing, including underneath? I get it, a movie for kids, but surprised at least not for laughs they point out how uncomfortable her underwear is, or tight her pants are? Guess that was why they chose not to have her in a dress and heels for that scene.

I did not discover the identity of Tarzan Boy by Baltimora until decades later when the song popped up in a suggested play while nostalgia binging other 80s and 90s music videos on KZbin. That song haunted me forever, using AOL and Yahoo searches for a song whose only lyrics I knew were whoa ohohoh ohoh. I didn't even remember it showed up in TMNT 3 cos it was never ever played on late night tv, at least not where I lived.

I went through the same expwrience with the song used to promote the Batman and Robin game to find out on KZbin it was just a one time theme only for the game: "He can run, there's no escape / he can hide, that's his fate/ he can fight with all his might and never win, cuz when good battles evil, the real game begins"

I watched this movie MANY times as a kid, and can still quote lines from it. I definitely agree with Kevin Eastman's ranking. I think TMNT3 gets a bad rap, and is head and shoulders above TMNT2 (which I watched about as much and yet can barely remember any lines from). The story is much more involved and interesting than in 2, with better and more interesting characters and better dialog overall. I find Mitsu, with her fight to save her village and love triangle (however clumsy) between her, Mikey, and the prince, to at the very minimum be a better character than either Keno (literally just a random annoying teen who can kick) or Dr Professorman Whatshisname. You know, with the glasses. Also, the villains are actually somewhat compelling with clear goals and motivations, and you can say what you want but Stuart Wilson absolutely slays as Walker lol He's the perfect amount of hammy for the role, and really turns what could easily have been a throwaway nothing of a character into someone with some real screen presence. Also, as I said, I think the moment to moment dialog is actually really solid. There are a few moments of drama, tension, and tenderness that actually land, and for my money the jokes and one-liners have a MUCH higher hit-rate throughout than almost anything in 2 (I'd go so far as to say that it's actually funnier than the original). Honestly I think that if someone hasn't seen it in a while, or has never seen it, and goes in remembering that it's a 90s kids movie without trying to compare it to the original, they'd be very surprised at how much of it actually works. It is by no means a GREAT movie, as the first was, but I do think that it's decent and has a lot of really good parts that simply don't quite manage to ascend to the heights we really want it to.

Part III should have been a real follow up to apart II, which should have had the Utrom backstory and ending Part II in a cliffhanger with the Turtles sent to Dimension X from the T(C)RI facility. Part III should have introduced Krang and his rock soldiers enter Earth to take over the world. Krang teams up with Super Shredder and the turtles stop them. So I would have gone with the sci fi story arc… although the cgi for it in the early 90s would have been cheesey
