Great video, this helped me tackle the tensioner on my GS300 even with the leaf blower blasting behind you. Id like to add to anyone doing this, it was fairly simple to remove the power steering pump to get that pesky allen head bolt on the lower drivers side. 3 14mm nuts and allowed me to loosen the bolt without fear of stripping.

Just wanted to add that if you are a bit of a pro and willing to tackle the project, then the bearing in the tensioner pulley is replaceable and a common size. You'll need a vice and some big socket sizes to push out the bearing and push in a new one. This can be done if the auto-tensioner is still working correctly, but the bearing has a noise. I watched a quick pulley bearing guide video and was able to tackle it without needing to purchase a whole new tensioner.

@@HelpingHandAutoRepair well my dad looked at it when I gave it a Rev and the belt slipped towards the engine and rubbed on the metal of the tensioner. There might be a chance. Although I haven’t tried it. You would have to get the old bearing out to match it up with a new bearing. However it’s not always the bearing. The spring inside can fatigue over time and not provide provide proper tension on the belt.

With this motor, that could likely be a failing timing belt tensioner. You can confirm this by removing the serpentine belt and then starting the engine. What do you mean? You will relieve tension the same way you did to take the belt off.
@patrickdabs Жыл бұрын
The threads that the tension adjustment bolt goes into are probably stripped. The threads on the tensioner are aluminum and the bolt is steel so they are very sensitive to being over torqued, and it’s not hard to over torque since they’re only supposed to get 28ft-lbs.

Your tensioner bolt spinning free because the tensioner thread where the bolt bolted into it round up (no more thread)- bad design by enginer using clockwise torquing the screw to release belt tension resultant in overtorque the screw wearing the thread: you need to retap new thread with right size of screw or Buy whole tensioner with pulley which it is a big job.
