I got over 200,000 miles on my 99 PreRunner with that same engine. It still has the original water pump and alternator. AC still working too. I think I should swap out my water pump soon before I blow up my baby. I’m original owner too. Love your videos !!!

Yeah, it probably would be good for you to do some cooling system maintenance. If your radiator is original, I'd replace it too along with the both hoses. I'm glad you like what we're doing. Thanks for the comment!

@@TimmyTheToolman Thank you. I just finished it up today I put a new Aisin water pump and new thermostat and fan clutch in. I put a new Denso radiator in in June which unfortunately got dented up installing the new water pump but no leaks lol. I was trying to be careful like you warned but goofed up. I had to pry the fan clutch off but made sure to put a pad in there for that part. For some reason we took the pad out when we went to pull the pulley off and it was kinda stuck and it busted right into the fins. Seems like everythings working good so far though in the 25 mins I drove it home. The engine only has about 130k on it and transmission was rebuilt so hopefully should be good for a long time. Thanks for the quality video man

@@TimmyTheToolman OK friend don’t laugh but I’m a newbie at all this. The only thing I’ve ever done is change the oil so here it goes. I’ve got a new fan a new fan clutch and a new water pump. Can I just assemble all those into 1 piece I’m not using any of the old parts, Also changing the tension pullies out. How would you go about getting the old fan fan clutch and stuff off? Would you change the way you did in the video

As ever, loads and loads of great content for many similar Toyotas and a really nice 4Runner. On the ‘misprint’ (yeah seen a few) I’m glad you pointed to the ‘standard’ torque settings at the front of the book for bolts etc based on their size. There are also torque settings elsewhere in the books for steel bolts of similar size into aluminium parts or that compress aluminium parts, such as on the thermostat housing as you had. Something else to bear in mind is that these torque values look to be for dis-assembly. They are maybe to warn you to not apply too much force and try other methods to avoid snapping etc, but I could be wrong? I think the giggle valve is there to allow a bit of hot water through, otherwise the thermostat can be starved of coolant that is hot enough to otherwise open it, or in its own bubble of cooler coolant, if that sounds better. I guess it’ll also let a bit of air through for fresh coolant that has more air dissolved. Really like that funnel and the excellent advice throughout. These vehicles are not that complicated but they need care and attention when servicing otherwise things get missed, go missing or get broken. Cool!!
@TimmyTheToolman
@TimmyTheToolman 7 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment. I've never seen just disassembly torque values. When they put them there as part of the steps to remove something, it's actually the torque value for reassembly. I've never seen two different values in the FSM pages. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the purpose of the jiggle valve. Yep, the Lisle Spill-Free Funnel is a game changer. Happy Wrenching!

Good Afternoon guys! I love the videos, always find myself coming here because you guys just know a lot about the 3RZ. I have one in my 97 Land Cruiser Prado and it has an issue that I can't find. Upon a cold start (right in the morning after a night), the engine doesn't idle at 1800, then drop to 800 RPM after warming up. It just sits at 1000, or sometimes it stalls at 400 RPM. When it's warmed up, rest of the day has zero issues. Replaced both coolant temp sensors, new spark plugs, new MAF, cleaned IAC and throttle body, nothing. Thanks for the videos again, been a life saver multiple times!

It does sound like an IAC valve issue. Maybe when it is cold, the valve sticks, but when warm, the little door moves more freely.

Hello, nice video! Maybe you can help. In winter, at highway, the heater radiator goes cold, and there appears some air in the cooling system (can hear some streaming sounds). After stop and turn off engine and start again, the radiator starts heating. Cold/Hot switch valve is working ok.
