@BarryWise574 жыл бұрын
That's wild, had no Idea they even came in a 3.58 ratio, must be an Aussie thing? In north america they only came with a 3.9 in the autos and a 3.727 for the manuals. Good to know!
@Mitcheeee4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think it was an Aussie only thing. Although I did read somewhere the US spec IS300 had a Touring Pack or something that maybe had a 3.58 ratio??
@samw4 жыл бұрын
Mitcheeee the US spec gets a 3.9lsd for the auto and a 3.73lsd for the stick. Most of them have open diffs so they might have the other ratio
@gavinr91074 жыл бұрын
So just to clarify - the aussie spec IS300 torsen t2 LSD is a 3.58 final drive? That explains why the gears feel so drawn out. I was under the impression that is was 3.91 but it didn't feel like it. I have ordered a 4.55 Revolution final gear set (to suit toyota 86 / same diff) to install in my IS300. Should make a hell of a difference to acceleration then.

You can take the brz lsd and replace the open component in the is300 pumpkin with the torsen. There is a video on KZbin of a brz differential getting a 2way lsd swap and he goes over the swap and torque specs, the process would essentially be the same for the is300 since is pretty much the same pumpkin

@@136videos its on the btr Justin channel for his os giken lsd install. Theoretically the process should be the same for the is300 since they use the same housing. For my build I'm keeping the same ring and pinion just swapping out the open component for the lsd out of a brz

Anybody have any strong thoughts on if either of these diffs are stronger than the other? Looking to swap my 86 with a JZ, and trying to figure if I should stick with the stock or go with the IS300 diff. I'm aware that the final drive ratio's are different, and will affect acceleration/top speed, just curious if the stock 86 diff will hold up to some power. Cheers!
@Mitcheeee4 жыл бұрын
The main issue with these diffs is the crush washer that is used to set the backlash in the diff. With abuse, the crush washer can compress and cause the backlash to go out of adjustment which in turn can cause damage to the ring gear and pinion. You can get billet washers that prevent this, in which case the diff is pretty strong and could cope with plenty of power. People question the strength of the Torsen assembly inside the diff, but my car makes over 900hp and cops plenty of abuse and its shown no signs of wear and tear or failure. Get it adjusted correctly, keep it serviced and it should last.
