Very good instructions because you include the wiring diagrams to keep the old radio, thank you! I also learned that you can disassemble the factory radio and only include the 1 din component (minus the cd changer and front control face), so it fits easily in the dash behind the new radio. With only this small component that has the factory connectors built in, the blue info screen works

Hello, I just bought a 2006 Avalon which came with aftermarket stereo, so I bought a replacement OEM radio and removed the CD controls like you and hid it behind the aftermarket radio, now I get the same "F" displayed like 11:29 in your video, how did you get rid of that? Does it car just need to be driven/started a bit before it starts displaying? Thanks
@Letsdosomethinguseful4 жыл бұрын
Does the A/C status shows? if nothing shows in the blue screen something is wrong with the connection to the original stereo, check that cables TX+ and TX- are connected correctly and it has Ground, power from ACC and permanent 12 volts. If the A/C and everything else shows in the status screen, then you can try driving it a few minutes, if not, try disconnecting the battery for 1 hour, if the problem persist, look for an auto zone and scan the vehicle for posible error codes and clear the ones you find. If the problem still persist, the original stereo could be damaged. Good Luck.

Let's do something Thank you for the reply, what was wrong is I bought JBL stereo for my non JBL unit and certain plug was different, so I ordered the correct radio at a good deal and will plug it in, it will arrive today in mail... excited, as I just bought the car and it came with aftermarket radio and I really need the blue screen to work as it looks so cool when it works.

@@cool4ever44 The XLS model have that screen in color. It is a great car, the commodity and luxury of American cars and the readability of the Japanese ones.

@locorudy6266 жыл бұрын
@Letsdosomethinguseful6 жыл бұрын

@Letsdosomethinguseful6 жыл бұрын

did you do anything with the tape player?
@Letsdosomethinguseful6 жыл бұрын
Well, Before I made this video, I removed the tape head and turned into an auxiliary input. At the time I made this video, it was useless so I just remove it and convert it into yet another compartment (this car has a lot of compartments),

The stereo converts the signal for information screen above? It is not possible to piggyback harness plugs from oem stereo?
@Letsdosomethinguseful6 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure. I was starting to create videos when I made that video and I did not put much attention to the circuits in the OEM stereo. In fact I want to disassemble it again and check the Amplifier's IC number to check how much power does it have and may be, since the original stereo stills in, may be use its power amplifier too. I nee to check what circuit handles the I2C communication. I think you can use and arduino or something like that to replicate the OEM stereo signal.

Saludos.

Hey doing the Same thing you are but I already have my radio in the trunk the problem I have is that now my radio in the trunk is making noises like a cd is trying to load but it gets annoying I want to take the radio apart and just keep the brain is it a lot of work to take the radio apart
@Letsdosomethinguseful8 жыл бұрын
Well, is not all that hard to take it apart, but you need to be careful of not shorting anything because if you lose that stereo, you lose the A/C and the info screen. Have you tried to load a CD and leave it in there? maybe you can just remove the upper cover and just disconnect the power cable to the CD. I believe there is a flex cable that powers the CD, just pull it and that's it. I want to take out the original stereo again just to see what kind of IC amp it has, once I pull it out I'll let you know how to disconnect the CD only form the stereo.

@Letsdosomethinguseful8 жыл бұрын

Could I take the brain out like you did and buy the harness and plug it into the radio and it keeps the information screen? Instead of running wires to trunk?
@Letsdosomethinguseful6 жыл бұрын
If you have the harness to install the stereo in the trunk, I think it would be easier to install it that way. I disassembled the original stereo and put in behind the dashboard because I did not buy the special harness designed to install the original stereo in the trunk. Of course you can buy the special harness and put the original stereo behind the new stereo, but you will have to shorten the harness or find a place to put all the excess wiring. Good Luck and thanks for commenting.
