Do not pry on the ends of the ac vents! You will break the links that move the vents. Pull up on the bottom of the stereo/ac controls and this will help loosen the vents. there is only one clip at the top center of the vents and one on each side below the bottom. Only pry there. Top center, bottom on the left and right. Not on the sides.

I really appreciate your video. My player has been jammed for about 6 months with 3 CDs inside. The local Toyota dealer said they couldn't help me and recommended a local car audio shop. I tried resetting once before by pulling the fuse for radio, but maybe that didn't cut enough power and I'm sure I didn't wait 5-10 minutes as you recommend in the video. Today, I disconnected the battery as you recommend in the video and waited 15 minutes. Reconnected, stated the car, turned on the the radio/CD player. I pressed EJECT but nothing really happened. Then I hit load and it told me "CHANGER FULL" as it has for these many months. Then I pressed and held the EJECT button and out came the first CD. Pressed again and out came the next. Repeated once more and got the last one out. Great zero-cost solution. I really appreciate you including that explanation in the video.

Thank you so much for this. I was able to order a replacement CD player in excellent condition off of E-bay and get tools from Amazon. Together with this video I was able to get a working CD player for about 1/4 of the price the dealership quoted me. Thanks again.

This was a God send video for me. The top trim was My challenge. I found it helpful to go from right clip to left clip using a modified 8" long scribe, with a 90-degree bend & shortened tip. I felt for the hole in the clip, to hook on to, then tugged upon each clip (clip noticed briefly at 4:29), whole pulling on each side of the fragile vent trim. I hope this helps.

After watching you struggling and then breaking the corner off the left side of the AC vent, I was happy to see when you got it off where the clips are. Now I know just to take two 1 inch wide putty knives slide down on both ends and Release. Other than that snag at the Beginning the Video was helpful

Thank you, I was not wanting to remove radio just the ashtray compartment. Your video shows it much easier than I thought. Really thought I would have to remove all the side bezels just to get to it.

For the vent at the top use a very long flat head screwdriver. Ive found the plastic prytools are too pliable. Take the bottom two bolts out and jostle the radio/climate around to pull the bottom of the air vents out. Then use your screwdriver to counter lever the long clips out. Push down with the flathead and pull the clip out on one side then the other. Then rip it put with force from the bottom. Zero damage to my trim or the vents this way. Took 2 minutes with an 01 that has never been taken apart.

Will this work for a 2004 Avalon? Same generation as the 2000-2003, but is there something different about the 2004? From the outside, it all looks the same as the 2000-2002. I am not so familiar with the 2003.

I have a Avalon xl and i see you have the XLS I have a manual ac but I want the wood grain stero and ac controls but will the ac connect the same
@JamesAutoDude4 жыл бұрын
Problem is that the wood grain A/C controls are electronically controlled so there's literally no way to hook it up into the car due to the fact that your controls are all by wire/cable. Only thing that MIGHT work (assuming the connectors are the same) is the fan and/or A/C button, but everything else wouldn't work... Also the wood grain stereo is a JBL system stereo and either won't sound good with your speakers, or fry/ruin your speakers...

I believe I have the manual AC panel because I have fan and cold/heat turn knobs. Is that correct? where and what do the extra cables/wire look like that I need to unhook? Where can I find pictures. of what it is? Thank you very much for the help.

@joshd008 жыл бұрын
I think I just carefully wiggled/ popped them out. The end of the cable is a ball that snaps into a round plastic disc. It's all very tight and hard to get to. Be careful not to break any plastic. It's a pain to get them back in as well.

yeah. that's right. disconnect the negative terminal on the battery and wait 5 mins. that will reset the CD changer in most cases. I have the same avalon and I changed out my radio with a kenwood so I could plug my phone into it and listen to music from the phone and do all those features.
@la1969 жыл бұрын
orcaluv My cd player has become a problem, it plays CDs until it gets warm, then it stops and gives an error code. At that point it just won't play CDs. As of two days ago it won't even cycle through the 6 discs. Also the light for the stereo display only comes on after it gets very warmed up if at all which is a drag at night. Thats been going on for a year or more. Mine has too many failures so I'll replace it even though I'll probably get another vehicle in 12-18 months. I would like connectivity for my iPod/ iPhone etc. but still want it to sound as least as good as the existing JBL premium system that's currently in it without breaking the bank. I would guess you kept the JBL amp that came with the car connected to your new stereo. I doubt unplugging the battery will correct all of the issues this unit is now displaying. I'm also running out of patience as I enjoy my music. Just wondering which model Kenwood you purchased. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated because I want to make a move on this very soon, perhaps this weekend:) Thank you for the video, it looks pretty straight forth, with the exception of that stubborn AC vent section. I'm considering getting something from Crutchfield which will include adaptor harnesses for my existing system with the existing amp.
so I guess it's impossible to install a new radio while keeping the A.C. since it comes off with the factory radio smh
