Toyota Avalon Replacement Remote Programming 2003 2008

Procedure To Program Toyota Avalon Wireless Remote Transmitters:
Begin with: The driver's door open and unlocked. Key out of the ignition.
1. Insert and remove the Avalon key from the ignition switch 2 times within 5 seconds.
NOTE: Steps 2 and 3 should be performed within 40 seconds.
2. Close and open driver's door TWICE.
3. Insert the Avalon key into the ignition and remove it.
NOTE: Steps 4 - 6 should be performed within 40 seconds.
4. Close and open the driver's door twice.
5. Insert the key into the Avalon ignition.
6. Close the Avalon door.
7. Turn the ignition switch from "Lock" to "On" and back to "Lock" at about 1 second intervals to select the desired mode:
1 time for ADD mode.
2 times for REWRITE mode.
3 times for CONFIRMATION mode.
5 times for PROHIBITION mode.
8. Remove the key from the ignition.
9. To confirm your mode selection, the power locks will now cycle "lock" to "unlock" a number of times corresponding to your key cycles in step 7.
NOTE: If Confirmation or Prohibition modes have been selected, opening the door will complete the procedure.
10. For Add or Rewrite modes do the following within 40 seconds of Door
Procedure Lock confirmation:
A. Press both car transmitter Lock and Unlock buttons simultaneously between 1 and 1.5 seconds and release.
B. Within 3 seconds of step A, press the transmitter Lock button for more than 1 second and release.
If the keyless entry remote transmitter has been successfully programmed, the power locks will cycle "lock" to "unlock" once at this time.
If there are problems with the remote transmitter or the procedure up to this point, the locks will cycle twice. If this occurs, verify that you have received the correct transmitter, and then repeat the above procedure.
C. If multiple remotes are to be reprogrammed, repeat steps A and B.
11. Open the driver's door to conclude programming mode.

Worked like a charm on my 2003 Avalon. To program more than one remote, when you get to the part where you hold LOCK+UNLOCK for 2 seconds then hold LOCK, repeat those button presses on the other remote right after the first one, and both will be programmed.

Worked on the 03 Avalon. Dealer told my wife's grandma that I'd be $400+ to fix the issue. $5 for batteries and a KZbin video and both remotes work. Thanks!

Total voodoo, but IT WORKS!!!! You saved me... lost the spare key and fob for my beloved Avalon 2004 and using this method I was able to save Hundreds of Dollar which TOYOTA dealer would have charged me... I got 2 spare keys and fobs online, a local store cut the keys for few bucks, and I programmed the fobs in no time. Thank you!

Worked on my 2008 avalon..although i had to insert key twice more (with door closed) to finish programming. With the steps in the video alone the car responded the same to all buttons..cycling lock and unlock leaving it unlocked. After extra couple times car responds to ALL buttons..trunk..panic & locks. Hello! I am able to get my car (2003 Avalon) into programming mode, but I can’t get it to respond to anything on the remotes. The locks cycle to indicate it is in programming mode but I can’t get it to do anything past that. It doesn’t accept nor decline the remote. I recently replace Toyota Avalon remote battery. Since then the unlock button does not work all the time. The lock button works quite well. This happened on two avalons, 1998 and 1999. This suggests an issue outside of the battery being bad or the two remotes going bad same time. Anyone has suggestions.

Try with rewrite mode... cycle the key twice (on/off, on/off) before removing and then proceed with the rest of the instructions. If you still aren't having any luck, you can try rebooting the keyless system by doing an electrical reset on the vehicle. To do this you would simply disconnect one of the car's battery cables for about 15-20 minutes, reconnect and then try the programming again. Sometimes this will solve any 'bugs' that may be keeping the remote from programming.

Did you try the reboot? If that does not work, there is probably a bigger issue with the receiver. You might need to have a locksmith try the programming with their diagnostic tools.

Unless the car is not equipped with keyless entry remote system, this should work on the 2004 model. Perhaps there is an issue with the receiver in the car.
