Toyota Camry Replacing Power Steering lines/hoses (06 - 13)

On this weeks episode we repair a power steering leak coming from the power steering reservoir lines. We bleed the power steering and in the process flush out the old power steering fluid and replace it with fresh
power steering fluid. Win Win

Great video but leaving vehicle on when filling. Fluid circulates continuously when on. I use a syringe and take several ounces out replacing with new while car is running. Works great. If car is jacked up you can turn wheel during this process to ensure complete replacement of fluid.

Yes for you can it's just more uncomfortable laying under the vehicle on jack stands.

Add an inline filter on the return line hose part before the reservoir when you do. Using the cardone filters here.

Smart. Usually the filter is built in to reservoir. In hid sight i should have replaced it. Old car they didn't want to spend a lot fixing

@@MyHomeGarage - I thought about in line too but since I maintain my car well I don’t need it. This was confirmed after replacing the PS lines and reservoir. I broke open reservoir and built in screen was nearly spot free. No debris. This was after 220K. Definitely replace reservoir if you can. You can actually see level and fluid circulating on new one.

Replace the hose clamp.and line. Maybe the reservoir has a crack

@@MyHomeGarage Can we do the steering wheel turn after installing the hoses by turning car on ? Do not plan to jack the car in the air so would not be able to turn with car off. Thanks.

@billwayne3924 going to be difficult to turn wheel with tires on ground. Option 2 turn on vehicle 4 secs, then off. Then top of power steering. Repeat process till fluid level stabilizes.

When your on rock auto select 1 brand and look carefully at the names.

What lines do I need to purchase? Is that high and low pressure lines?

Whichever you find are leaking. Anything from the powersteering pump to the steering rack would be considered a high pressure line. Anything that leaves the reservoir is considered low pressure side. The fat hose off the power steering pump is low pressure inlet side. Metal line leaving to rack high pressure. Some cars have powersteering coolers. Just more lines. Goodluck

@@MyHomeGarage I have both lines wet at reservoir and leakage onto driveway. Have about 130 k on the engine. Have just about same car and engine, it's late '07.

Simple when you are on a web site like rockauto you will see very clear names like from reservoir to pump. Ect it's easy to pick the correct one. Also. I would change the reservoir because they have built in filter at the bottom which filters the fluid. They can become clogged with debris. Which can cause the pump to run dry with air pockets. Goodluck...

Yeah, it's possible to do this without removing the wheel, but it's much, much easier if you do.
