Great job as usual! you really put in a lot of effort editing as well, tons of mechanical detail which I personally appreciate! HAA pulls the same lateral G's as a Volvo XC70. That rear roofline looks odd until you see the huge backseat room with giant ingress\egress doors, nice!

Buying an 08 convertible SLE. Sorta fell into lap from my wife’s coworker who’s husband can no longer drive. Really impressed with it and I was looking to buy new, but this is much better. One owner, older couple no kids, 125k miles, all maintenance records no accidents. I’m sold. Not the exact one I wanted but I’ve never had a bad experience with Toyotas. Newer Mopar cars, yeah I can tell stories.

I just talked a friend of mine into buying one of these as a commuter. The only issue is that we will need to replace the rear wheel bearing assembly. Your mechanical review is incredibly in depth and impressive. We will definitely be looking at the condition of the plugs, the bushings in the rear suspension and the other things you pointed out. Very helpful for when we go thru the car this weekend. Thanks!

I have a 2004 Solara SE 3.3L 3MZ-FE V6 with almost 200k miles.Good video but, I disagree with a few things you mentioned. Never use any kind of Sea Foam on a modern car. Always stick with the recommended oil weight. You must change the transmission fluid every 40-60k miles only using OEM fluid. Don't put Stop Leak in the rack and pinion steering rack, watch Scotty Kilmers video on how to clean and care for a rack & pinion system. Akebono brake pads are pretty good to use. Around 100k miles the 3.3L V6 needs a timing belt job including water pump, idler pulley, thermostat, tensioner, shaft seals, Toyota brand coolant change, while you're working on it. Check the radiator fans are working after 100-150k miles. Change the spark plugs after 100k using only Denso Iridium or Iridium TT. Don't use any kind of lube or anti seize on spark plugs. My VSS - Vehicle speed sensor needed replacing around 180k. Only use OEM O2 sensors. Only had one go bad from a small exhaust leak that was repaired. Flush the whole brake system periodically. Had to replace all 4 calipers around 160k. Remanufactured calipers are ok to use. Flush the power steering system around 100k and only use Toyota OEM fluid if you want it to last. After 150k it's time to check and start replacing worn suspension parts. You can get a front end suspension part replacement kit for about $300 from RockAuto. It doesn't burn a drop of oil between 5000 mile changes using shell Rotella 5w-30 on almost every oil change using Toyota brand oil filters you can find in walmart. Power steering hoses are starting to slowly leak so time to order and replace. Just my data points yours may vary.

More than half the things you mentioned have happened to my mom’s 07 Avalon with 200k plus miles and have been addressed. Guess we’re going to look forward to the other half.

2002-2008 4 cylinder has a timing chain.

My wife had a hardtop that, as I now vaguely recall, was one of the first Solaras. She put on 125K miles and decided to trade on a Honda for "something different." Go figure. Anyhoo, based on her Solara experience I now have an '06 convertible SLE. Great handling, very comfortable ride. Absolutely no rust on the body. Only major expense has been a new converter and oxygen sensor and necessary pipes. It has 75K, a result of my being retired. Not a cheap car to drive. it's a V6 and Toyota recommends against using regular gas. Best mileage is 26 and that's when cruising on the Pennsylvania turnpike at 65 - 70. Rainwater leaks into the trunk in small amounts and try as I might I have yet to locate the leak spot. The dash has several cracks around the radio/CD unit. A splash guard beneath the engine broke off. The piston holding up the hood ceased functioning. All that said, I'll hang on to it.

Not sure if you figured the leak out, but it’s more than likely the rear bladder under the plastic on the trunk lid. That part cracks and leaks all over trunk and back seats. It’s called a rain trough, it’s about a 120 dollar replacement part.

I have a 2004 V6 SLE and use nothing but regular gas. At 235k miles I'm doing 28 mpg on the Pennsylvania turnpike. Dash is also slightly cracked and the hood paint started to peel. Transmission is solid but jerky at times. Engine is strong, no oil burning. Just changed the timing belt kit for $1700 at the local shop (was quoted $3000 at the dealership). Did the rotors, calipers, and pads myself. I also change the oil every 5000 miles or 6 months per the Car Care Nut recommendation. Other than that, the car has served me well.

Im surprised you didn’t mention the 4 cylinder is prone to burning oil due to the piston rings failing.

Bought an 04 convertible last week. Plan on doing performance mods, a new paint job, and better wheels. I'm absolutely loving it, and look forward to driving it to the grand canyon and Colorado this summer. I do need to do some repairs (timing belt, front suspension, brakes, and a new top, but it's a 19 year old (wow) used car, it'll usually need that suff anyways)

Right after saying no need to change transmission fluid, then he says sometimes the transmission fluid leaks... Lifetime fluid is a joke! Replace your transmission fluid every 30-50k miles!

RearStruts: !You are incorrect! You do not need to remove and replace a lot of rear paneling for the 2004 to 2008 model years. Toyota corrected this hassel. Replacing the rear struts on a Solara is now similar to replacing rear struts on Camry.

Also if you keep your power steering fluid clean the rack and pinion should never go bad.

I love the solara sle with a six in it and bigger rims . It's a big difference that this base thing he's reviewing.stunning looks it wasn't supposed to be sporty, it was more a personal luxury coupe, remember that segment ?
