Great, how to video. It's a stark difference between a garage with a lift and working with floor jacks and stands. I applaude your effort in trying to show us all the details in your videos. I'm a diyr and today I dropped the trans on my 123k mile 2nd gen tacoma because of torque converter shudder. It took my brother and I two days. First time me doing any service to that transmission. Keep posting more videos. I know it's hard recording and then editing all to make it presentable.

Love this channel! Question: I’m replacing the short block on a 2012 Camry and wanna make sure I’m installing the balance shaft assembly correct. The repair manual says to put piston 1 at TDC and then rotate engine 90 degrees. Then line up the dots with the markings on the balance assembly and install. I’ve seen people put the dots opposite of the markings..which is the correct way? The manual read it as line up the dots with the markings..

Thanks man I would follow what ever the repair manual says especially when it comes to that balance shaft. I didnt do enough of those motors to remember off the top of my head. What repair manual are you using? If its a legit website for repair manuals like all data or pro demand its not going to give you false information.

Not sure it you will get this question. I have a 2018 Camry. About two years ago i could feel my Car at Highway Speeds feeling kinda strange. Took it to 3 different Toyota Dealerships over time whiles getting an Oil Change. Finally last April 2022 was told they saw a little bit of a leakage that they would monitor. Then the Same around in October 2022. Then i went to as for a flush, i was told that there was now a large leakage, there is no way for them to check how much fluid i have because these newer transmissions don't have a dip stick. And i might need a new Transmission 🤔 😡. Should i get a new one or try to get it rebuild? Im over this Camry.

Same here. And I’m not sure. Only time I’ve seen that seal leak is when someone damages it reinstalling the torque converter. This car has never had any major work. But there’s nothing else that could leak there besides that seal. Will update if vehicle returns with the same leak

Curious, who pays for broken bolts? I recently replaced my starter and discovered one bolt was cross threaded. This added a lot of time to the repair. When this happens or a bolt head breaks off at a shop, who pays for the additional labor? Can a customer be quoted $xxx for a repair and then get a phone call that a bolt is broken and will now cost way more? I can only imagine how irate customers would get thinking its all a scam.
@LetsDriftMedia
@LetsDriftMedia 2 жыл бұрын
It gets covered for free at the shop usually. Unless it’s something common to strip or break like exhaust studs. Then the customer will get advised of the possibility requiring extra labor before they agree to the repair.

Big jobs like these are always great when your not on the clock. It's when I do my best work. You need to trench out your foundation and maybe blow out that ceiling to put an inground lift in. Life will be so much easier, especially if your going to continue to take on more home jobs. But on the ground electric HD motorcycle jacks come in handy for trans jobs (they have the perfect frame to secure entire trans and even engines under 600lbs)

Yea nice being able to take a break and walk into the kitchen for a snack whenever as well lol. I have 9ft ceilings in there and the big beam at the roof is a support beam for the 2nd story of the house so cant really do much about that. Seal is around 10 bucks. Labor is around 12 hrs. So gonna run you well over $1000. Idk how much the dealer charges per hour of labor but it’s around $100 at mine

I kinda hate torque converters lol. Last one I dealt with was on a nissan. Wasn't close enough to the flex plate so I couldn't thread in a bolt. Luckily, there was enough room to thread a longer bolt and yank the converter close enough to thread in the appropriate bolts.

Have you considered quick jacks or a max jack lift for your garage ?

It would’ve easier just to leave the upper engine mount and trans mount connected and drop the subframe. The upper mounts attach to the body and not the subframe and should support the weight of the power train. Just a flat rate way of thinking

Good point. I’m so used to having a lift so doing it on the floor had me a little lost lol.

@@LetsDriftMedia I’ve done tranny on a 98 I think and was using pole jacks to support the engine and swung the subframe out of the way. It ended up bitting me in the ass because everything shifted when I removed the tranny and had a hell of time trying to line all 4 mounts and subframe to its home. Love the content and very informative for these younger techs, got to pass it on

I’m a Honda tech I Replaced an engine on my in-laws civic down in my hometown on jack stands. It wasn’t terrible getting everything undone but Never again haha if someone wants something that heavy done they can tow it up to my dealership and I’ll do it in a Saturday haha a job that’d usually take 3-6 hours took about a day and a half.

Hey what’s up ? I have a tundra 2012 with 180,000 miles I have no record of replacing trans fluid ever Should I replace it trans fluid or leave alone ? I hear plp it could slip after ?
@nateTrh
@nateTrh 2 жыл бұрын
I would do a drain and fill, don't flush it. Use Toyota genuine fluid and you should be good to go. I would be more worried about the diff fluid, especially if you tow a lot.

You definitely need to change it. Don’t listen to the mechanics that say you should leave it at high miles. Even if the fluid is dark it’s still doing the job, just not very well. Do 3 drain and fills. One now, the next oil change, and then the oil change after that. If it starts slipping it was about ready to go out anyway.

i was at yota for 6 years - know what i miss? doing a transmission replace on a first gen tundra. dont have to pull any exhaust at all, little plate on the bottom for easy TC bolt access, dont even have to pull the starter. dont have to pull the intake etc. so gravy. now a days 99% of every ticket i get is replace engine or replace transmission at a different azn car brand dealer. as time goes on, the new tech on these cars is cool. but complicated to diagnose, and everything is made more annoying for no reason at all. prime example: the location of the TC bolts on these FKS motors! WHY?@?@?
