Toyota Corolla 2010 Fuel pump replacement

This is a rookie video where I am replacing fuel pump. Sorry for the upside down footage, I used a gopro and forgot to change the filming settings.
First time I ever had a problem with my fuel gauge not working I replaced the fuel pump and it fixed the problem.
This time it was a little bit more complicated, had to do some soldering because one of the wires broke off from the male clip that plugs in the fuel pump.

Appreciate your doing this. I now will start my project as my level is inaccurate going to play withe wire if the needle drops while it happens. And find a Toyota part and replace soon.

FOR SAFETY, don’t use a metal hammer on a metal wrench. 1 spark would be a disaster. Buy a fuel pump remover for $25 or put a deposit down at auto zone for fuel pump remover and you get your deposit back when you return it.

The lock ring on my corolla was so over-tightened I ended up just breaking it off and buying a new one.

My fuel gauge wasn't giving me a reading. Year earlier I had the same problem and after i replaced the fuel pump it went away but then a year later came back. Turn out it was a broken wire at the connector that plugs into the fuel pump.

It is what it is and I had to what I had to do, car dealer wanted $800 for a fuel pump replacement claiming they have to drop a tank and what not. I wasn't having that....

Did you fix the floater to make fuel gauge work or you replace the whole fuel pump? How many mileage do you have on this car before changing fuel pump? Does the fuel filter looks dirty? Thanks for the video.

Fuel gauge was not working and they don't the floater assembly separately, but it turned out that the wire connecting to the plug was broken resulting in faulty signal. So I really did all that for no reason just to find out that wiring needed soldered.

The video will help me in the future if I have fuel gauge or fuel pump issue since my fuel pump is original and i has over 185k on it. Based on internet, it is about time for it to go bad. Also, the parts is not that expensive (about $100-$150) and I may follow your video and change it for peace of mind. Thank You So Much. 👍

pardon me for asking, did ethanol gas (E10) effect the fuel pump much? I'm starting to notice that the gas mileage is decreasing. ? Thanks!

Not sure about E10, but i would check the air filter and tire pressure.

@@cybersurfer614 I've notice that premium Non-ethanol, gas does the trick. I'm just afraid to use premium gas all the time.. I haven't changed the gas filter for the first time yet. I am aware that I should've changed the fuel filter at 60000 but I didn't. Would that make that much difference?

@@stitch-xx2oo Good question, unfortunately I don't have an answer for that, but would assume that even with 100,000 miles on the vehicle you would be getting an adequete fuel pressure. I would run some fuel system cleaner perhaps....

@@cybersurfer614 That's is what I've been doing but afraid it would burn the motor up. Regular gas(non-ethanol) is hard to find. I have a hunch gas producers are putting water in the gas here to keep gas as cheap as they can keep it. Thanks

I changed the fuel pump today on my corolla 2009 and still cranks but won't start. Most of the time turns on immediately plus i have check engine light! What could be the problem?

Check your wire connectors to the fuel pump, make sure they are not broken. other than that i really don't know. could be many things....

Was your gas tank very low when replacing fuel pump with a new one ? You' all need to refill at least 2 gallons of gas to cover fuel pump in gasoline to the right level !

Yea read the codes...your fuel pump being out wont give a codes...your may have another issue

No, but it does help if it has less gas in the gas tank.

The cap that covers the fuel pump or the ring that screws and hold the fuel pump? I don't know really would have to look at to see what's causing that......

Depends on where you get it at....I would say between $25-75 used from Junk yard. I got one extra for this car that I can sell you for $30 just pay shipping.
