I just ordered a strainer, pump, filter and gasket. I think I will order a pressure sensor too, but they get very expensive; I'm not sure I should trust the 16 to 20 dollar ones even though they say meet OEM. I may also get a fuel level sending unit since my car is having issues with the fuel level accuracy. (The car didn't stop the gas pump when it was full and it overflowed when I filled up the other day). For the sending unit I'm looking at almost 80 bucks and the pressure sensors can be 80 or 90 bucks too. Don't think I'll go for the original part, but feel somewhat insecure with a really cheap replacement. May risk it though since it's starting to get pricey with just the parts I bought. Thanks for going over the little details that some people would forget/not think about.

What were the symptoms that made you suspect the fuel pump assembly?
@YourCarGuyDR Жыл бұрын
The vehicle was slow to start when warm, was setting a code for running lean and slightly low on power. I did a fuel pressure test and found that the initial fuel pressure was in range but it dropped very quickly to below the specified range.

I have a 2009 Corolla LE with 180,000 miles and suddenly it has Check Engine Light (CEL) come with code of P0001 which is Volume Fuel Regulator. The Regulator is inside the fuel pump; however, the car run fine and no issue except the CEL. Is it really Volume Fuel Pressure Regulator or may be just wires or ECM issues. There is no sign of fuel issue except the CEL turn on and off and now it is always on. Thanks for the video.
@YourCarGuyDR3 жыл бұрын
Most likely it is a connection issue with the sensor. Inspect all the wiring and connections at the fuel rail. I would pull the connectors out and look for loose pins or sockets. Or any sign of wire rub or fraying.

Hello there, great video I understood it everything you did, thanks. But I have one question. As far as taking out the fuse to release pressure. Which one is the right fuse, and once You're finished do you just put the fuse back turn on the car and the pressure will apply
@YourCarGuyDR6 жыл бұрын
Paul Myson depending on your car model and year the fuse will be labeled fuel pump or fuel system. Take the fuse out and try to start the vehicle. This causes the pump to not run and uses up the fuel psi that is in the line. Then after replacing the pump simply reinstall the fuse.

Hey I got a quick question maybe you can help me or someone on here. I have a 2006 Toyota Corolla that has problems starting up especially in the cold. I would say 70% of the time it cranks and starts up normally the other 30% I have to crank it a lot longer and the car sounds like it's not going to start (almost sounds like it going to die on me) but then it starts up after about a good 3-4 seconds of cranking it. I believe this is my feul pump but I'm not sure. Possible starter as well? Do you have any suggestions what it could be?
@YourCarGuyDR4 жыл бұрын
Matt Slaczka most likely your fuel pump.
@yingcluk2 жыл бұрын
It's similar to me, but I suspect it's fuel leak because that only happens when the car sits more than a day or 2 without being used.

Where is the fuel pump fuse located in a 1998 Toyota Corolla?
@yingcluk2 жыл бұрын
For US model, under the side vent of driver side, there's a small pull out to put some stuff, pull that out you should see a fuse box. Or it could be @ the largest fuse box in the engine compartment

Mr Car Guy, Excellent video. I was wondering if you could tell me what the problem with the car was. I'm having an issue that I suspect is a fuel delivery issue. Car randomly dies but will restart immediately. Codes are random cylinder misfires. Have checked all electrical.
@YourCarGuyDR5 жыл бұрын
Greg Peters there are a couple of things that could cause your issue. Fuel supply could be one. You also may have a vacuum leak after the mass air sensor. Some faulty sensors can also cause an issue. Does it die at idle or while driving?
@gregpeters61955 жыл бұрын
@@YourCarGuyDR The car does not die at idle. Suspect bad fuel was added a couple months ago when loaned to a friend. I added quality fuel and used car on occasion afterward (spare car) no problems. Daughter came to town a drove daily, started again. I was able to duplicate twice. While driving tried to accelerate hard, had no throttle response. Have checked for vac leaks
@YourCarGuyDR5 жыл бұрын
Greg Peters if you did get some bad fuel you could have plugged the filter on the fuel pump. Low fuel psi can cause an intermittent shutdown and the random misfire codes. I would do a fuel pressure test and see what is going on.

What type of screw driver do I use to remove the cover? My Phillips keeps slipping and I"m on the verge of stripping the screws.
@YourCarGuyDR5 жыл бұрын
Noreen Kenney this can be challenging as not all screwdrivers are created equal. Higher quality screwdrivers with a tight fit work best. One thing you can do to help get the screws loose is put your screwdriver in the screw then give it a tap straight down with a hammer. This will help break the screw loose.

I replaced my fuel pump on a 2006 Toyota corolla type S. Found out the pump wasn't the problem. The problem is the pump is not turning on/getting power. I checked relays and fuses and there good. Does anyone got suggestions on what could be wrong? PLEASE HELP
@YourCarGuyDR Жыл бұрын
The pump should come on at initial key on for a second or two for priming. It will also come on during cranking. If the computer doesn’t sense engine cranking it will not turn the pump on. Check your cam and crank position sensors. One way to eliminate ate this as an issue is if you can see rpm’s on your tachometer when cranking or use a scanner to see if it shows rpm’s while cranking.

Is the fuel filter part of the fuel pump?
@YourCarGuyDR5 жыл бұрын
Tristan Broussard the fuel pump assembly contains the fuel filter. In this case you can purchase a new filter and replace it in the pump assembly. The entire assembly is fairly expensive but as long as your housing is in good shape the pump, filter, pressure regulator are all replaceable for a lot less money.

@YourCarGuyDR5 жыл бұрын
Noreen Kenney you need to check all of your ground wires. A loose connection will cause resistance which will draw more amps and blow the fuse. Make sure all your connections are clean and secure. Also feel for any hot spots in the wiring.
@wintersolstice535 жыл бұрын
I understand all the basics in current flow (I think) I know there may well be a loose ground somewhere. The problem is I don't have any idea how or wheee to look for it. @@YourCarGuyDR
@YourCarGuyDR5 жыл бұрын
Noreen Kenney start with the battery connections then trace the ground wires at the engine block and battery to body. Finally check the wires at the fuel pump and trace them back. It can be difficult to find this type of problem even for a good mechanic. But if you take your time you should be able to find it.

NO sparks at all ! it is fresh raw gasoline in the tank? Maybe take the negative battery cable off before you start and wrap it in a paper towel or dry rag to ensure no sparks at all!
@YourCarGuyDR3 жыл бұрын
You are correct that removing the negative battery cable prior to beginning the repair and making sure it cannot contact the negative battery post is important. While a spark can cause ignition of the fuel vapor it is not likely unless certain conditions are met. Either way taking the proper precautions should always be done.
