Great video! I'm receiving my c-hr soon, which I believe have in a similar engine. With all the videos you posted, I do feel super confident doing all of the servicing you've shown on my own. Thanks for sharing and do continue to share your servicing vids!

How often has the brake fluid been replaced? Once every year is kind to the car.
@TurboJoe3047 ай бұрын
No brake fluid has been touched yet. I plan at 150k miles to take it to Toyota for a brake fluid flush. I don’t have the scan tool to open the abs valves to do it myself. I had it done on my wife’s Prius and my local dealership charged $150 for a complete flush
@Stoff17 ай бұрын
@TurboJoe304 Wow that's a long time without a change. Too many neglect this. Most manufacturers recommend every 2 years or every year like porsche does. It's kind of strange watching people change their oil often way more than the manufacturer recommends but then ignoring their brake fluid schedule. I'm here wondering why this is the case but the braking system is the major part of car safety.

@@Michael-bg7os This is the same power unit as the 4th gen Prius' have. The trans axle have no torque converters, steal belts or chains. When you do change it. It drains completely. My 2017 Prius. I was going to change at 200,000 miles. It got totaled at 181,000 miles. My 2022 Prius has 113,000 miles on and I will change at 130,000 miles with the spark plugs just to make me feel good. There are many Prius' with 300,000 miles on with factory World Standard Automatic Transmission Fluid still in the transaxle. It will not be what kills them. Preacher, tell you to give 10% and go to heaven. Dentist tells you to Crown the tooth to have it last 15 years. All 3 of mine failed in less than three years. U tubers get views by preaching high service rates. 300,000 miles between two 4th gen prius'. Expense ratios this year:35% fuel, 30% maintainance, 35% tags and insurance. OW16 oil is expensive, ATF world standard transaxle oil is not cheap. Today is oil change day at 9600 miles and 64 days after a trip to the west coast and Chicago. I sleep well, and the car will die of non servive issues.

Make sure that you service and clean the EGR system which means cleaning the EGR cooler, EGR valve, replacing the PCV valve, and cleaning the EGR passages in the intake manifold. This is very important to do on hybrids to prevent head gasket issues by cleaning out the carbon build up. You should also change the CVT fluid, this should be your 2nd change. It's a very simple drain and fill on the eCVT. Here is a video of the process. This is on a Prius but the process is much the same. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mGnQYoBne5alqbMsi=gUyIwy-jgybkV61p

I plan on doing the egr system at 150k miles and for the cvt fluid I just changed it around 73k miles and will be doing that again at 150k
@jimsgaragetoys8 ай бұрын
@@TurboJoe304 I wouldn't wait until 150k miles as the EGR cooler will be completely clogged by then and you will be replacing a head gasket. I tell people to do it no longer than every 100k miles and even then I've seen them very badly plugged up. I would also change the CVT fluid no longer than every 50k miles, keep that transmission happy with fresh fluid, I do mine every 30k miles since it's easy and cheap.

@@jimsgaragetoys I had egr problem at 90k miles and engine start knock when cold start. I used redline fuel additive at every refill tank. the knock disappeared and more smooth. i dont feel any vibration from engine. I been using redline fuel additive as life support until i start cleaning EGR soon before upcoming winter.
@technocody92963 ай бұрын
@jimsgaragetoys I dont have time or dont want to deal with EGR at -10 degree outside but redline additive fuel cleaner solved my problem during brutal winter. I keep using redline fuel cleaner additive on my car today since last winter because it keep dissolving carbon deposits in EGR overtime. I always goes 50-60 mph then shift to B and let it hypermiling/coasting or regen at downhill. My egr problem went away and never come back again but I should still clean EGR and intake manifold's tiny holes from EGR's airflow.
@jimsgaragetoys3 ай бұрын
@@technocody9296 I wouldn't believe that something like that would work unless you did a true test of the system and took apart the system to look at the condition of it before and after you used the product. Most of the claims from those types of products rarely work as advertised.
