My backlight on my cluster only works when I turn the headlights on manually. They will not come on when DLR is selected at night
@CleverFix4 ай бұрын
@@noahreyman4309 DRL (Daytime Running Lights) is only for the daytime, not night. On my model, the DRL does turn on the cluster backlight though. It turns on very bright, and it's not adjustable by the rheostat while in the DRL setting. On Full Headlights, the cluster backlight is adjustable by the rheostat. Only the dealer and specialized auto electronic shops can diagnose something like that. The dealer has probably seen that before, so it would be easier for them to figure it out.

Nice video! Do you know how can I make all lights to stay on together (low beams, high beams and fog lights) ? I know that is ilegal in the US but I got the same corolla, I imported it from the US, I live in Panamá and it is not ilegal here. I would like to do this so I can have more light and visibility on some roads. Another thing I would like to do is to have the fog lights on with the paking lights. If you or somebody else know how to do this, I would appreciate the DIY or wiring diagram. Thanks!

Do you know the part number for the headlight switch on your Corolla? I have an LE trim that I want to add the fog light, and I need to change the headlight switch to the one that can control fog lights also. I can't find any part number for your exact headlight switch, which is the one I want (has auto switch + fog light switch).
@CleverFix9 ай бұрын
You'll have to go to the dealer to get that part, and they can look it up, however, I wouldn't do it that way. Most if not all aftermarket fog lights come with a small switch that has a double-sided adhesive backing, and it can be glued in many places where it can be easily reached. Swapping the headlight lever would be only the first problem.. the second would be the wiring.. your car will probably not have the wires that go to the fog lights, the fuse box and relay.. I'm just guessing, but you'll have to check, although I doubt simply changing the lever is all that's needed. I've installed aftermarket fog lights before with the separate switch they come with, and they also come with their own fuse, and it's very easy to install them that way.

How about the two arrows pointing the opposite ways? What's the purpose of that? Sorry, I'm too lazy to open the manual lol Edit: It's just a direction indicator icon. It means that this stick is used as a signal that you're turning left or right.
@CleverFix4 ай бұрын
Good question.. The left/right arrows indicate that the turn signals are operated by this lever. I should've mentioned that in the video, but I was more focused on the lights that stay on, rather than the blinkers.

@@CleverFix Yea, I’m not sure what could be wrong with it but I noticed it after doing my state inspection. I turn the knob to activate my fog light and nothing will happen. No fog light dash light either. I’ve tried with DRL and headlights being on simultaneously but nothing. Only when I have high beams on my fog lights come on and I also get the light on my dashboard. Very strange. I have a 2016 Toyota Corolla S
@CleverFix Жыл бұрын
@@noonelikesmike378 So if you push the lever toward the dash and activate high beams, the fogs turn on (while set to on)? And then if you pull it towards you, the fogs also turn on when you pull it towards you? Just asking, since that would pretty much rule out a mechanical problem in the switch.. pushing vs pulling activates different contact switches. Sometimes problems can happen at the switch itself, since they do wear out from all the movement, especially since this is also the turn signal. It sounds like a different problem to me though.. so I'd expect your issue to happen on both push and pull.
@noonelikesmike378 Жыл бұрын
@@CleverFix Alright, so I just tested this out. Only Fog light switch engaged + pushing / pulling lever= no fog lights. Headlights and fog light switch engaged + pushing / pulling lever = high beams on / no fog lights. Only knob rotated to high beam will make the fog lights turn on.
@CleverFix Жыл бұрын
@@noonelikesmike378 So that's normal, it's what I show in the video. Pushing and pulling the lever turns on the high beams, and the *blue* light on the dash indicates the high beam is on. The knob rotation *does not* turn on the high beams. Only pushing and pulling the lever does. So It sounds like your car is working fine. Remember, only when you see the blue light on the dash , they high beams are on.. and they should only show when pushing/pulling the lever, as shown in the video.

I bought the car and i was driving in the night and everyone was flashing me idk whats the problem Is it too bright or what? My main beam was off too
@CleverFixАй бұрын
Make sure there Blue High Beam indicator is not turned on, I show at a 3:07 in the video. If you have the high beams on, people usually flash. The only other reason could be if you have no lights at all, so make sure the lights are set to Auto or Fully On. If it's neither of those, it could be the alignment of the headlights, if the previous owner has modified the angle. The low beam angle can be checked and adjusted to ensure it's not pointing at other driver's.

Which one is the low beam?
@CleverFix6 ай бұрын
Put it on Auto for automatic low beam, with the lever pulled towards you. Don't push it towards the dash, that's high beams. AUTO Will give you low beams automatically when you need them. OR turn it to the symbol at the top, which is a headlight with light rays (lines) aiming to the left and down. Don't drive on the Circle or Parking lights.

Stupid that the parking lights have no function now. Literally the reason for them is to have visibility to other cars when you're not driving. I used them in my old car while sitting in a restaurant drive thru so the headlights don't blind the person in front of me - but my Corolla still has the DRL so no purpose there. Or to park in the street for a minute to unload groceries before parking in the garage The two instances i used them is sitting in a drive thru so I'm not blinding the car in front of me, but now the DRL are on too. Or when leave the car for a minute (unloading groceries in the apt parking lot before putting car in the garage) - but my Corolla turns off lights when the car is off so either leave the car running or use hazards. What's the point of them at all?
@CleverFix6 күн бұрын
You're right about that. I think they left the modes as they used to be, because some Corollas don't have DRL's. For ones that do, it can becoming confusing, because some drivers are not aware that DRL is not as strong as the Full Headlights. It took me a while to figure it out. There is a light setting that allows the headlight lights to stay on for a while after the car is turned off for 30sec to a 1 min I think. It's in the "Vehicle Customization" on the stereo. I'm able to run the engine without DRL's but only a fresh start. When I start mine with the parking brake engaged, the DRL's stay off. Only once the parking brake is released, the DRL's turn on. That's useful sometimes for warming up the car without wasting energy on the headlights.

Should mention in parking light mode, when the car is then stopped and ignition turned off, the parking lights will turn off when the driver door is opened.
