In this video a do a quick overview of what could cause your car (Corolla, Yaris, etc) to not start.
If you have changed everything and ou got fuel in the cylinders, spark to the spark-plugs and the engine turn, Check your pulleys or alternator!
Those engine hate any resistance when its trying to start!

Hey my man… Excellent video! My car would not start and I did not have any money to get it fixed! It turned out that I was using a copy of the original key which was preventing the alarm system from turning off. I never would’ve figured that out if I hadn’t watched your video. Thank you so much!!

Bonjour mon amie...ca va? You are obviously Canadian, where are you located? I stumbled across your channel and appreciate the quality and detail you put into your videos. Funny enough I own two very similar vehicles to you (GMC 3.7L I5 & Toyota 1.8L) and both are having issues so it was nice to find someone who could feel my pain. Regardless, keep it up and thank you for taking the time you do to put these together. All the very best and take care!

@@probonomechanic ...they are minus the integrated PCV on the GMC...that's rediculous! A $5-10 part turns into a $200+ repair all because GM decides to build it in. At least with the Toyota everything is serviceable at a fairly low cost and a little bit of research and brainpower...but GM's man what were they thinking besides $$$ at the dealership which hurts. I've owned two and now with this change it's time to stay away. On a side not did you notice you're air plenum was heavier than expected when removed? I think it's all caked in old deposits as it's all at the back by the pickup line on the passenger side. Horrible routing and just a bad design let's hope this fixes the stalling issues I have on a 3.7L with just under 30K KM's on it! Owned by a retired OPP officers father who just drove it to the golf course prior to passing away.

@@androidtv7775 It's insane for sure! I was a big fan of GM for many years. Easy to work on and low cost price, but I would say from 1995 they dropped the ball big time. Not sure if the import were killing them, but the quality and engineering took a big drop. I wouldn't be suprise if they got a few stats out saying that they get more money from the repair and maintenance and that became their moto. When they released the 3.5/3.7 it felt weird, I was driving around with the 4.3, and it was a decent engine. Not made for speed (if you forget about the cyclone haha mean machine), but it was a really good working engine. Right now, I see the Toyota 4l doing a really decent job. They have a tendency not to change what's working, and I can respect that. I just hope the electric vehicle will be a new age of decent engine. I'm starting to think about doing a review for the Bronco and maybe get my hand on the elecrtic hummer. I'm not having big expectation, hoping to be surprise. Ohh and I'm in the Maritime. If you check my video on buying a hummer you will see the impact of salt water hahaha

@@probonomechanic Awesome and I completely agree...GM is horrible now! This is only the second GM I've owned the first being a Buick Regal GS...that car was amazing! It was kind of difficult to work on and all kinds of stuff broke on it but the engine (3600/3800 can't remember) was bulletproof...today, forget it! I love my Toyota and really think its the best car I've ever owned but its showing its age in the body as a 2005. The GMC I have I just need to get running and get it sold because if I told you how few KM's it has on it and is already causing problems you'd be amazed...complete SH*T! Seeing you do some reviews would be awesome (I love the way the new Bronco looks) but with your technical skills and ability to explain I hope you keep doing the DIY repair videos...they are so well done in comparison to others. Stay safe and take care out East and who knows maybe you'll see me there one day. Its definitely time for a move out of ON and was thinking NB or NS are good alternatives it just depends on job opportunities and cost of living...here as I'm sure you know, its nuts! All the very best and keep the videos coming!

Having had Corollas, a 90 with 307,000 when I sold it (ran like new) and a 99 now, it is hard for me to imagine low compression. Those are like the old days to me when I was a teen with Mustangs and Cyclones, etc. The video was very good and geared for someone with little equipment. My nephew has a 2011 and I am thinking it is essentially quite similar to a 2008. Is that right? Thanks
@probonomechanic
@probonomechanic 2 ай бұрын
Hi! If I recall the 2011 is from the generation for 2009 to 2013. If I recall the Anti-theft system is different in his generation of model. But I did encounter a similar issue with the 1.8 of that generation in regard to the pully/alternator seizing. So atleast that could help him. I have a question about your 99 Corolla. How is the metal in the corner of the rocker panel and the rear wheelwell? From experience it is their only weakness to rust.
@DWMtukwila
@DWMtukwila 2 ай бұрын
I have not seen any signs of rust anywhere on the car. I am not driving it much now and probably will sell it to a friend. It runs quite well but the 90 was incredible. Even the interior was like new@@probonomechanic

Do a matrix fuel pump hums if you turn on the key
@probonomechanic
@probonomechanic 9 ай бұрын
You should ve able to hear the relay click and the pump priming itself. If there is none, it is usually the signal not reaching the pump. So either the fuel pump relay, anti-thieft system. A bad pump will give symptoms or atleasr a code. Did you put it on an obd2 scanner?

So pulleys on the car can be so bad that the tension from the belt on the crank won’t let it start?
@probonomechanic
@probonomechanic 9 ай бұрын
Exacly. The most common would be the alternator pulley dragging down the crank speed. And it doesn't need to be dragging a lot to prevent a start

I got a 2015 Corolla. It was under snow for a week, and at first it wouldn't even turn. The next the engine turns, and it acts like it will start. Then it starts the starting process again. I am leaning towards no compression. Any thoughts, and if compression is the problem. How big of a job is that? Thanks for the video
@probonomechanic
@probonomechanic 4 ай бұрын
Before jumping to compression. I have a few questions. It was working fine before you parked it? If so, did you check the battery. If there was a low temperature and your battery was weak it could have froze and damage the cell. Sometimes a battery will bulge (the sides walls of the battery will be round). Check that out first. It could be just a low juice or damage battery.
@charlescomeauxjr9037

@@probonomechanic yeah it was fine then we got a lot of snow in Orchard Park. I had surgery so I waited for the snow to melt. Yesterday I got in and turned the key. The car was totally dead. Nothing happened. I tried starting it today, and it will turn over and right as it catches it starts the process over. Just a couple of things you had said in the video sounded similar. Is it weird that yesterday no turn over, no noise even. 15-20 hours later and it goes through the process. Thanks again. I am going to check the battery right now. I checked it visually today, but I didn't study it. One thing is no sign of corrosion. Again thank you and you really did a good job on the video. You ever do something on wrestling or boxing. I will definitely check it out!

Battery looks fine nothing wrong visually. It does the turn over process and right when it should start it stops and repeats the process. If it was an older model right when you would give it gas to start it just doesn't
@probonomechanic
@probonomechanic 4 ай бұрын
Sounds a lot like a battery. What happenned in cold temperature the cold start amp isn't pushing enough for it to start (usually just an old battery). With warmer temperature the battery regain a bit of juice and it will get enough cold start to turn the starter. I believe if you get a boost it should start, but you will need to drive a bit to recharge it. My worry is that if the battery is really old, it will start and even if the alternator push enough power to recharge it the battery won't hold its power and next time it won't start again. Best bet, get someone to give you a boost. And change the battery when you can.

Hi Samad, I do not feel that I could qualify as a teacher compare to maybe just sharing information. I have been struggling to stop smoking for a long period of time. After 17 years I was able to stop about a year and half now. Pretty happy I was able to do it. It wasn't hard, it was tedious. I found that finding new habit to prevent older pattern helped a lot. Like carrying a water bottle, a coffee, or tea in my hand helped to prevent the habit of wanting to hold something in my finger. I keeped a box of toothpick beside my working chair so I would use them instead of going to my older pattern. Like I said tedious since you need to create new behaviour and pattern. It makes anything feels like unsatifying when you are not smoking. And of course the nicotine addiction has some side effects when you try to stop. Thank you for you concern, I appreciate!
