I have worked in independent shops as service advisor,I owned three quick lube shops and have worked as a service advisor at dealerships. I promise you all of them make mistakes and to be honest being a quart low while not good is not a terrible thing. I also feel like they went above and beyond to remedy the issue. And after all the management did you still bad mouth them on your channel and tell people you will never go back. I wonder if you ever made a mistake at your job ? What you did is make the manager question why he goes above and beyond when he could have added a quart of oil and sent you on your way it’s the same response from you.

Tim doesn't charge $120/hr for his mistakes. If the engine blows because HE forgot something, warranty denied. If you are charging high hourly rates for service and justifying it with walls plastered with master mechanic certs, it had better be right. Tim can make mistakes for a lot less.

Doesn’t sound like you work retail or customer service. I’ve heard of doctors and surgeons removing the wrong thing in surgery way more than $120 per hour. I’m just saying EVERYONE can make a mistake and what really matters is how they resolve the issue which Toyota handled it perfectly but still customer bad mouths you on social media and tells everyone he never going back. Also hiring employees for any job these days is almost impossible.

I had the exact same experience at a Dodge dealer years ago. The truck was still within warranty so I was having dealer do the oil change exclusively so they couldn't deny warranty coverage in the future. So I wait about an hour and told it is ready. I get in and start it and the check engine light comes on. I shut it down immediately, walked in and told the guy at the service desk. His eyes rolled and he went out and immediately pulled the dip stick. Turns out the high school kid they pay under the table didn't put enough in the engine. So he gets the lot boy who starts the engine and DRIVE IT ONTO THE BAY. This upset me and I told them to note this in the service record and give me a copy. About two weeks later, I git a call from them asking 'Howd ya like our service'. I let em have it with both barrels until their pointy ears bled. Now I know for a fact they are not paying master mechanics to do oil changes. Lookup dealer 'TEAM' concept. That is the slang for hiring unqualified high school kids to do the oil changes, ture rotations etc. About two year later, in 2008 during the great recession when Chrysler was sold to Fiat, they went out of business. I have been doing my own oil changes ever since and the 22yr old truck is still in service.

The guy that changed my oil and filter is the same guy that's done it for 60 years, me. One of those things I still remember.

No dealership oil change ever for me. They use the cheapest bulk oil they can find, it is not the same oil as in the bottles. A toyota camry owner followed the owners manual maintenance schedule and only the dealer did the maintenance. Then at 80,000 miles the engine developed excessive oil burning and it was determined by 2 independent shops that the engine needed a top overhaul. The owner did not have the dealer do the top overhaul.

Another very important check after Dealer Tire Rotation, is lug nut torque. They notoriously over tighten and this can leave you stranded if you have a flat and are trying to get the wheel off with your truck lug wrench. This happened to us late evening on the interstate and had to call AAA to get spare on. (AAA had to use a breaker bar to remove lug nuts) Also, had oil change at dealer, checked oil at home and bone dry. Always check oil after change.

Dear Tim, This happens all the time. All dealers & Quick change oil places do not fill the oil to the proper full mark. They do this to save money! Just think of 2000 people getting their oil changed in one day and they left each one half a quart low. Look how much money they save.. This has happened to me more times than I can remember. I change my own oil except in the winter time. I always double check the drain plug and oil filter. One time the gasket was left on from the old oil filter and they put a new filter on top of it, and it leaked profusely. It could easily ruin an engine if you didn’t notice it quickly. I am an Amsoil gal & bring my oil along with me in the winter months. Check and recheck everything. God bless you Tim & Mom says Hi from 64 hwy.

Tim that doesn’t mean your oil was underfilled Those circles are considered safe zones which means upper and lower levels. Your oil is considered low if it’s below the bottom circle. Walmart will always keep it below the top circle. That saves them a ton of money world wide by keeping it in the lower zone. If your motor burns or leakes oil it’s best to keep it in the higher zone. Your engine has to work harder if it is slightly over filled or the high zone. It can comes down to preference I don’t blame you for not being completely happy. Those daealerships even when it comes to mechanics only keep one top tech and the others are newbies. That saves them money as the dealerships are not nearly as reliable as they were many years ago due to cutbacks to save them money.

That is not to say there are not bad independent mechanics, I have certainly had poor experiences with independents as well. At this point, I use a particular mechanic that has two people working there. They are both excellent and honest mechanics. I always go to them for everything. I don't price shop, I don't question the parts they use, I don't worry if there is a quicker shop. Getting the job done right the first time for a fair price is worth its weight in gold.
